Are you new to the world of Macross toy collecting or have a question that doesn't necessarily need a thread of it's own? Post it here and our resident Macross toy specialists will reply to you.

The initial one had answers that were so outdated, that first post is actually very funny. I'm going to try to dig thru that thread and link all relevant questions and answers here on the first post.

MW = Macrossworld

Valkyrie or "valks" = nickname for the transfoming jets most specifically used for the VF-1 but is an accepted term for any of its later successors (and the VF-0).

CF = "Cannon Fodder"= refers to the brownie VFs that constantly get blown up in many episodes.

FP = "Fast Packs" = external armor mounted on valkyrie, usually is exclusive to non atmospheric use.

Fold Booster = additional equipment used by valkyries to jump from one space to another.

Joke Machine = Bandai's Super Deformed versions of the Valkyrie

HCM = High Complete Model, Bandai's original 1/72 version of the valkyries

The Macross = The SDF-1

yammie = Nickname for Yamato Toys, most specifically a Yamato valkyrie

chunky monkey = Nickname for the original Bandai/Takatoku 1/55 scale valkyrie

what is a Joons?

A popular bootleg version of the 1/55

what does GBP stand for?

Grenade Box Protector, the heavily armored version of the VF-1

what's the difference between a super pack and a strike pack?

The strike pack has a cannon attached to the right booster of the Fast Packs and was never seen in the TV series.

What are TV hands?

TV hands are the rounded version of the VF-1's hands, seen on the TV series and not in the movie (DYRL?) Also known as Mickey hands.

What is DYRL??

Refers to the movie version Macross: Do You Remember Love? in which you see different versions of the valk flown by our heroes. There are also different versions of other mechas such as The Macross, The Quadleunn Rau and the Nousjadeul-Ger.

Does Yamato or Bandai or any other Japanese manufacturers cater macross products to the US market?

NO. Only japan. They WANTED to cater to us, but legality problems with Harmony Gold prevented them from doing so. Reference the HG debates thread for more info in the "other and science fiction" section. However OTHER non macross products from yamato are readily available in the USA.

Why can't I find any news on the Alpha Fighter here?

The Alpha Fighter was seen in the American series called Robotech, and was derived from Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada (which is where you will see the Legioss (Alpha Fighter) and Robotech is considered an off topic subject as this is a Macross forum.

didn't want to start a new thread... just wanted to ask if anybody here uses ArmorAll on their Yamato valks?

Why would anyone do that? Hell, I wouldn't even use that crap on my dashboard!

Is that the actual product? Is it MISB? These were going up for a while but I think you can get between $200 -$240... not entirely sure. I haven't seen these for sale in a while now.

VF100 line was a few VF-25 toys and is dead. It had no metal and featured huge quantities of parts being swapped to achieve transformation. Feedback seemed to be pretty negative so Bandai scrapped that idea, decided to try to make their toys as close to perfect transformation as they could in the scale they had the license for, and added some metal to them.

Okay, I guess this would be the most appropriate thread to ask my questions.

I got my hands on a Toynami Robotech VF-1, but it's missing the gunpod. I e-mailed Toynami's sales department to ask about purchasing a replacement gunpod, but I never got a response. Does anyone have any ideas for me to get the one item that really makes this figure actually look pretty badass?

The other question is if anyone knows the actual scale of this figure? I just want to know so I can plan to buy other VFs on a scale that I like, such as 1/60 or 1/72... Thanks!

Is this a transforming one? If so:

  • If it has metal swing bars it's the 1/55 scale MPC
  • If it's about 5" tall and all plastic, it's the 1/100 VF-1

Tamashii's VF100's and VF HI METAL releases are in-scale with the latter, Bandai's reissue VF-1's are in-scale with the former*.

It has metal swing bars that hold the legs in place and it is fully-transformable, not parts-formable. Any ideas on how to get a replacement gunpod?

It doesnt seem like anyione reads this but: Is Gamlins 22 any easier to transform than the 21? i know the belly hatches are a different size, so does that mean its any easier to fit the legs in at all?

I believe it means that you have to take the model apart somewhat, and swap parts out to get the final transformation effect. A perfect-transformer will be one that does not need to have parts switched out and does the transformation in as few simple steps as possible.

Parts-forming comes in two varieties. The first would be like Yamato's V1 1/60 VF-1 toy. The original Yamato VF-1 1/60 toy requires you to remove the intakes to turbines of Jet mode and reconnect them in a different manner to create the toy's battroid mode. This "parts-formation" does not require you to go get parts that weren't already on the toy, it just forces you to disassemble the toy a bit and put it back together differently to produce the next mode. The second type of "parts-formation" would be like Bandai's VF100 line of VF-25 toys. This type of toy requires you to swap parts of the toy out with different parts that weren't used for the original first mode. Often times this means you disassemble the toy into its base components, go to a box, pull out different components, then reassemble the toy leaving you with parts from the first mode you no longer need any more. "Perfect transformation" also comes in a variety of flavors but it basically just means you don't have to remove anything from the toy and put it back in a different spot (save maybe a gun).

Noobie here. After much waiting, I finally bit the bullet on a 1/60 DYRL Roy Focker. And I have to say... wow. Just... wow. I am so blown away by this. Before this toy, my only Macross toys were the revoltech ones, and the one from the 80's that was repainted into the transformer Jetfire. It's a beautiful toy. Sorry about the gushing, but I've been having geekgasms for the past week.

My question: I am looking into getting a stand for this figure. Are the Mighty Block stands good? I found some "deep blue" display stands, but they're expensive. Would prefer to spend less on a stand if I could, so if the Mighty Block is good, I could get one of those. Does it work for all the 1/60s? I was thinking about getting the VF-0S next, but I saw the collectiondx review saying it was too big for the mighty block. Anyway, any response would be appreciated.

About the Reissued of the yf 21 i heard that come without fast pack but includes the gunpods or not???

It seems to me 1/60 seems to be the size to be. Also, this is probably a loaded question, but who does Macross toys better? Bandai? Yamato? Toynami? Or does it matter based on the particular line?

Does Yamato make a 1/60 VF-25? I just started watching Macross Frontier and would really like a Michael and an Ozma Valkyrie, but all I see are Bandai ones. Is it cool to mix and match between the brands if Yamato doesn't make them? Cause I'm guessing Bandai has exclusive rights due to their name showing up on the actual show...

I was hoping for Spartans...

I don't think there was a chance of a Spartan anyway. Yamato expressed that they weren't interested in it and they were just going to do the three that shared parts. So if the chances of the Phalanx was slim, the chances of a Spartan was always nil. But then again they said that there was going to be no Macross Toy. So maybe we can expect a $275 Spartan....

1/60 is without a doubt the definitive scale. With all the Yamatos available from SDF, DYRL, MacPlus and Mac Seven, Mac Zero and yes Bandai is producing Macross Frontier valks in 1/60.

The nearest thing to the 1/60 scale will probably be the 1/100 scale but it's still unknown what Bandai's future plan with that is. But they have produced the VF-1, the VF-19 and will have the YF-21 upcoming. Add the 1/100 Koenig Monster from both Bandai and Yamato, it seems to be building up as the alternative scale. Line is cancelled I believe.

I was shopping Amazon for toys and they seem remarkably affordable... even the VF-25F, VF-25G, and RVF-25 were around 90 bucks, minus shipping. However, the Chogokin DX models are much more expensive and I was curious as to what makes them so much more. Ozma's armored VF-25S was 325 bucks, iirc. They look gorgeous!

Thanks for the answers! Follow up question: I read in the reviews that the VF-0S (Roy Focker) from Yamato had some durability issues that were fixed in the Ghost Booster set that was later released. According to the Macross toy release list, the stand-alone was released again earlier this year. Does the second release of the VF-0S have the same fixes as the Ghost pack? Honestly, I would like to get the Ghost pack, but it is nearly impossible for me to find one where the price is reasonable, but I know the stand-alone is available at HLJ for sale, and the ghost can be had for its regular price elsewhere. I guess I'll need to inquire with HLJ as to what release they have...

Does the Virgin road 1D, have the words 'Virgin Road" tampoed on the legs, or is it a sticker?

Neither. U.N.SPACY is tampoed on the legs and their is no Virgin Road sticker on the sticker sheet.

It has been a while since I visited the forum. So, my question is: what happened to all of the Macross Frontier Bandai 1/60 DX Chogokin toys for sale? They haven't been out more than a year or two and it appears they are either all sold out or discontinued everywhere I look. About the only thing I can find is the 1/60 DX Chogokin VF-27 Lucifer Brera Sterne Custom. Is there any 1/60 version of Alto or Ozma still around?

I've been hanging out hoping that Bandai will do another run of their VF-25F Tornada. I'm wondering if I should just give up now or not? As it appears that Bandai aren't as generous with their reruns as Yamato Re (well, I guess that might be b/c most of their toys don't have broken shoulders) but I'm not sure if I should hold out or just head over to eBay. Thanks in advance
