The 1:200 scale SLV-111 Daedalus Interview and Ebook Series !

Daedalus Blueprint Side

Since 2006, MechTech, aka Phill Allen, has been working at re-creating the SDF Macross TV SLV-111 Daedalus as a 1/200 scale model.   Eight years later,  this model is almost done!

To celebrate MechTech’s completion of his  long-term Macross project,  a series of of ebooks, interviews, detailed completed model photographs, and videos are being put together for sharing with the rest of the Macross fan community!

You can listen to the first interview here!

The interview was not exactly an interview, since I was looking for commentary from  MechTech on his experiences with building the 1/200 Daedalus in 2006.  The interview has been edited for “um’s”, “ah’s”, long pauses and internet connection drops.

Volume one of the 1/200  SLV-111 Daedalus ebook is an edited compilation of the 2006 Macross World forum posts as seen in this Macross World forum thread.  All the forum photograhs and videos will be included in the ebook.  Currently, the ebook is in Word Document format to allow for the multimedia content.

Download Volume One of the 1 200 SLV 111 Daedulus Project Phill Allen.

Version 1.0, Word Document, 87 pages, 20.4 MB

The Daedalus project ebook required some textual editing of Mechtech’s  forum posts in order to make the ebook a little easier to read.  If you spot any typos in the ebook or would like some clarification or re-writes then you can contact boinger via the Macross World forum message system.

Happy Holidays!

Bandai 1:72 VF-1S (completed + review) by Vifam7

bandaiVF-111_zpsa510aad3This kit has been controversial from the beginning and now that I’ve finished this kit, I figured I’d give my own viewpoint.  I’ll try to be fair and balanced.

I built this kit without painting much.  The parts I painted were –

– the tailfins

– the foot thrusters

– the gunpod

– some minor details here and there

– the black stripes on the arms, legs, and wings

I had to paint the black stripes because the Bandai decals were terrible and generally a pain to work with.  Those areas are also heavily touched during construction.  Decals can be easily scratched even with a clear coat on top. Paint is a bit tougher (esp the lacquer & enamels I use). Painting them was also much easier.

Nel2012’s Macross Tribute Art

macross_30_years_by_neldorwen-d810r6c
About 2 years ago, Nel2012 AKA neldorwen (on deviant art) started a thread in our fan art section that featured a lot of her past works. I’ve seen a lot of these pieces myself when perusing the web for Macross art and it was a pleasure to see the artist finally showcase her work on our forum. She stated on that thread that she is planning a huge anniversary piece that featured major characters from all the Macross shows. This instantly piqued my interest. Her art is very detailed and exquisitely colored, so I was wondering how far off she was from finishing this tribute to our favorite show. I couldn’t wait to see the final piece. But the fact that she announced her plans in April and didn’t post the first sketched until September had me worried. Will this be another big project that becomes vaporware on Macross World? We’ve all seen people start threads with ambitious goals and then just die out. The great thing about Nel’s project was that she was posting individual pieces that by themselves were finished works. Seeing these illustrations get posted month after month assured me that she was determined to get it done.

Macross Superdimensional Chogokin Exhibit

IMG_7330

As part of the birthday celebrations for Sheryl Nome this weekend, a ‘Macross x Tamashii Nations Superdimensional Chogokin Exhibit’ was held on the 10th floor of the new Radio Kaikan in Akihabara from Saturday November 22 to Sunday November 23.

This was only one of several birthday events for Sheryl that occurred over the weekend, which I will be posting pics from later. In the meantime though, the following are some pics of the items, classic and new, and cool cool plastic that was on display at the exhibit, courtesy of forum regular and SpeakerPODcast co-host SAVE.

Miyazawa Mokkei Autumn Showcase 2014

IMG_3400

The bi-annual Miyazawa Mokkei hobby showcase was held yesterday (Nov. 18) and included a variety of new and upcoming Macross products.
Arcadia brought their A-game with a more complete looking prototype of the VF-OD. (An uncoloured prototype was previously displayed at the Spring Showcase) , while Banpresto turned up with some prototypes for the next batch of Ichiban Kuji figures.

Fortunately. SpeakerPODcast co-host and forum regular Save was on the scene to scoopda some amazing pics.

He also managed to get some clarification on the most important thing of all – the colouring of the VF-0D is still being tweaked. The final version will be shown at the next Wonder Festival in February 2015.

Third Party Super Deformed SDF-1 “Makuros” by Master Made, First Impressions

10440734_662719190502426_8280443664616783584_n

About halfway thru September in the midst of preparing for Macross World Convention 2014, I received a package sent by the folks from lunartoystore.com. This package was actually mistakenly sent to me by a previous reviewer and it was suppose to go to someone else. But I contacted lunartoystore and they said to go ahead and hold on to it until MWCon, which I was happy to. Because inside wasn’t just another toy to be curious about. It’s the first at an attempt for someone to make a “third party” figure based on the series that this site is dedicated to. Now third party is in quotation because, this isn’t exactly the first time a third party made a Macross toy, but what it insinuates. A “Third Party” product is what a unlicensed toy has been dubbed in the Transformers collector’s world. I’m not sure if it’s been adopted by other toy collectors but to me, it’s most prevalent in that line. I’d love to skip that explanation but if I do, then all the emails and comments will be based on that misnomer and not on the toy itself.
