ValkDelight Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 (edited) Please lock this if desire, I am not trying to start a new "useless" verbal fight here , nor am I taking sides because I think all sides are guilty if they take part and put fuel in it. I haven't been the Macross forum for a long time, I left it because there wasn't anything constructive going on here such as information on the shows or toys but people constantly engaging in fights. I don't know why people have to speak their minds or being reactive. So what one wins a verbal fight (was there any prize?). If you don't agree with them, move on and keep it to yourself. Western world always has to fight and say something like those people on CNN. No offence! I hope when I return again years later (if site is still here), I would find it a much better place. I am very disappointed at this visit. I moved on to the asian (Chinese and Japanese) forums because nobody there argues or mean to each other and they know when to back off instead of being combative and aggressive. I enjoy those peaceful forums every time I visit, there is always useful information. Also, for those who like to look down or impress people with their qualifications, I have this to say. In Asia, many have advanced degrees in high tech(a phD in engineering myself and still a lot of hair ), and it is not that impressive and we certainly don't look down on people based on qualification and I don't go around thinking I am on top of everyone else. Real smart people don't call themselves smart but learn to improve their flaws and expand themselves based on why they fail , not why they succeed, or living on past glory, and feel on top of the world. Bill Gates doesn't even have a degree but I think he is doing much better than me. In other parts of the world, not being modest has great disadvantages and sometimes lethal consequences, especially those who post their pics online. I am not in a gang but I am saying there are people who get upset easily (only if you think getting your head sawed off in Iraq is something). I am saying this as an advice not trying to threaten anyone. I think someone like Graham would understand what I am saying since he lives in Hong Kong. Edited July 30, 2004 by ValkDelight
JsARCLIGHT Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Don't let one or two ignorant sawtooths make you leave something you like. Most of the verbal nutballs on here are Americans like me. We americans have this notion that he who yells loudest and belittles his opponent the best, wins. The notion is of course, assinine... yet we all succumb to it once or twice in our lives. Think of Macross World as a movie. When the movie gets naughty or violent or gruesome... just look away. You don't have to read the posts that people post when arguing with each other. You can tell an argumentative post from the first few words in it. I admit that after reading an entire page of back and forth malarky and hip deep crap I myself start to fume a bit. But don't judge an entire board on the actions of a small minority. If you stay you can attempt to make it better, if you leave you just abandon the problem to someone else. If you have a problem with someone or some topic let the mods know. The mods rule supreme and hand down swift justice with a cherry on top if it is necessary. In the mean time, avoid the haters and hang out in a different section of the board for a while. The "hostile" crossfire threads are few and far between when compared to the bulk of the site. Give us a chance, don't focus on the bad things and have fun.
Max Jenius Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Yeah, really... you're overgeneralizing on both counts. Yes, MW does have its share of heated debates, but most times nobody takes it personally. What's wrong with a good debate where both sides have passionate, logical arguments? You also can't really say that you've taken an accurate sampling as you've already admitted that you haven't been here in a while. I can say that aside from little skirmishes such as those in the Macross 7 threads(a show that people either love or hate it seems) which are just fine and already under close watch of the moderators. I have also spoken with many asians that don't know "when to back off" in my online dealings, so I don't think you can really say that they're all like that and hold any water. Any time you get many different people from different walks of and give them all an equal opportunity to voice their opinions, there's going to be disagreement. A world where everyone agrees wouldn't be very exciting now would it? I can name threads that will passionate members on both sides most of the time; Star Wars Evangelion Macross 7 Macross Zero Kill Bill The list goes on. Also how can you say that people speaking their minds is a bad thing? Personally I think I gain more from debating with other fans of a subject because you get in deep... there's point... counterpoint... everyon KNOWS that it will be nigh impossible to change another person's opinion and while some may be content to just smile and stroll into that quiet night... you've got to understand that people are different and they're going to be different whether you want to hear about it or not. So if you really do like it better over on the asian forums, then by all means go visit them and avoid MW alltogether. If conflicting opinions turn you off, then YES go to these forums where everyone agrees with eachother and they "never" disagree. I doubt it will be noticed. No offense, but I call it like I see it.
azrael Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Most of us are here to have fun. But "fun" to some people is causing a mess everywhere they go and thinking they are king of the world. ...and it is not that impressive and we certainly don't look down on people based on qualification and I don't go around thinking I am on top of everyone else. Ignore those people who do that on this board. The less you listen to them, the more fun you get from the board.
ValkDelight Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Insults are not discussion. Disagreement is best kept "inside". Also, are those asians you talk to Western born or brought up in the western world? They are very different from asians in Asia.

Max Jenius Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Insults are not discussion. Disagreement is best kept "inside". Also, are those asians you talk to Western born or brought up in the western world? They are very different from asians in Asia. Examples? How do you know the people 'insulting' eachother aren't buddies? Duke Togo, Agent One and I are always dissin eachother, but we're pals. Hell DT sent me flowers last week for his new avatar. The asians I've spoken to have been brought up in both environments. I know people that have grown up in the lower 48 and moved up here to Alaska, I know asians that have grown up in Alaska all their lives. I also know some that have come to Alaska to go to school at my University. I have played online games with people from asia and I have also chatted with them. In all cases, despite their backgrounds there have been disagreements... some keep it inside, some don't... where they're from may have a small effect but it doesn't nullify it. Don't you think you're making a little too broad a generalization here? Also who are you to say where we should keep our disagreement? Isn't the whole point of our country to let people voice their own opinions freely, whether others like it or not? I mean really, we're disagreeing right now and everything's fine isn't it?

I just find it funny that you state that you're not here to impress or claim superiority.... but then you post this. But you know, if you can't take people disagreeing with eachother and like to avoid conflicts then it probably would be a good idea to find a more suitable forum for your needs. Peace

Anyway, that is not superority (I don't understand why people can't take the meaning of a sentence as it is and have to add NEW meaning to it, my sentences are straight forward in meaning and there are nother hidden alternative meanings), but it helps in broadening one 's horizon how the rest of the world works. Many westerners have lived in asian countries and their views have changed over the years because of the exposure to other cultures. We asians don't always say what we feel, it depends on the situation and in most cases, out of manner and out of respect for others (friends , parents and colleagues). I don't argue with my parents and I am not confrontation with colleagues over disagreement. For those asians you met that are confrontational , are just unwise. I just leave the topic as it is. see you. Edited July 30, 2004 by ValkDelight
Stamen0083 Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 There are always disagreement but we , asians , learn to keep it inside instead of being combative. This reminds me of the classic Seinfeld episode, "The Serenity Now."
Agent ONE Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 This is so obviously Hurin's other handle... What a pussy.

Its been a while since we've had a "I'm LEAVING... bye.... pay attention to me..." thread... so whatever man. Take your drama elsewhere, you didn't even need to post. lol Adios!
Agent ONE Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 The funniest thing about this thread is the clown only posted in this thread... No other posts. You should have intitled this thread, "Girly mail" HAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!! Go and be a whimpy little girly man somewhere else.. You can just hear me now and remember me later.
Hurin Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 This is so obviously Hurin's other handle... What a pussy. Hmmm. Name-calling on top of unsubstantiated, paranoid (and quite serious) accusations coming out of nowhere. I'm beginning to understand why your sympathies lay where they do. . . Seriously man. I hope you're not serious. I've avoided this topic (as much as it pains me) over the last few hours because it could very easily reignite things that I'd just as soon see die down. Further, I actually find what this guy is saying offensive (because it so grossly generalizes cultural and/or racial differences and borders on anti-Western/Americanism). . . while at the same time I'm laughing my @ss off at the irony of him being drawn into an argument and not "letting it go" while criticizing that behavior on the part of others. Anyways. . . in case you hadn't noticed, this guy is roundly criticizing behavior in which everyone agrees that I have been engaging. If not me directly. In fact, I was also avoiding this topic because I figured that as soon as I piped up, someone would immediately lay into me and say that it is my type of behavior that makes people like him feel this way. Which almost led me to post a general apology for my part in generating the kind of atmosphere that drives people like him away. That is, until he started in on the whole "we asians aren't like this. . ." thing. At which point I decided that I'd just end up ranting again in a "holier than thou," offended manner. So, I just tried to ignore this whole thing. Anyways. . . Agent ONE, to sum up, get a life. You're only sinking lower and engaging in the very behavior you claim to despise now. Affirming the obvious (Macross7 is the suck) and following someone around and taunging them with personal inuslts are two different things. 'Nuff said. H
Drad Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 I was raised old Japanese style and American style. I'm Japanese. I understand both ways of thinking. It's all good. Both have their ups and downs.
Agent ONE Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 And of course hurin shows up one second later to post, "its not me!" HAHAHA!!!!!! Watch this guys, if hurin does his usual he will repeat his cry/bitch and then say something like "well I am too good for fighting so lets just drop it" and in the same post he will throw in another insult.... Like a little girly man!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I think I am going to make a porno with your Mom and these midget siamese twin chicks that are attached at the tit.
Agent ONE Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 ....Affirming the obvious (Macross7 is the suck) and following someone around and taunging them with personal inuslts are two different things. 'Nuff said. H So puntang, How am I following you around!? I posted in this thread first... Unless you admit that you and this ValkDork are one in the same.
Hurin Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 And of course hurin shows up one second later to post, "its not me!" HAHAHA!!!!!! Or. . . 50 minutes later. . . whatever. No point here. I'm sure the mods know it's not me. Seeya around. H
Hurin Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 How am I following you around!? Oh. I didn't realize that calling me a "pussy" and accusing me of things in threads where I'm not even involved or mentioned was any better.
Agent ONE Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 How am I following you around!? Oh. I didn't realize that calling me a "pussy" and accusing me of things in threads where I'm not even involved or mentioned was any better. Well if this other guy isn't you then I guess you have nothing to worry about. It IS better... Better, Stronger, Faster... God I am awesome, what were we discussing again?
Hurin Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Well if this other guy isn't you then I guess you have nothing to worry about. Correct. I don't. Seeya, H
Agent ONE Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Well if this other guy isn't you then I guess you have nothing to worry about. Correct. I don't. Seeya, H Well since you aren't, I appologise. You and this guy have some similar traits. I hope you don't take me too seriously. I am just like this in regular life (a total jerk), but I am always smiling so people know I am just amusing myself.
Drad Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Leave it to Agent ONE to illustrate clearly-defined degrees of jerkiness.
Hurin Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Well since you aren't, I appologise. That's cool of you. For my part in creating a hostile atmosphere around here lately (that leads to threads like this one), I too apologize both to you and the community as a whole. As I have said: I freely admit that I let myself get way too fixated on a grudge with another member. And in so doing, my behavior became very annoying even to people who might otherwise have been sympathetic to my point of view. I've always been (overly) verbose, and argued my points of view passionately. But I'd like to think people used to respect my opinion even if they thought I might be a bit over-zealous in making my point. Obviously, lately, I've just crossed the line and become a vindictive, obsessed jerk. I'm hoping over time you guys who remember only my recent (poor) behavior might cut me some slack and possibly start to remember when I used to actually contribute positively (if long-windedly) to discussions and even disagreements. Well, all I can do is behave myself and hope that you guys will give me a chance. Best Regards, H
Blaine23 Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 ValkDelight - Can't say that I'll miss you. For your reference, if you're still reading - I find your racially-biased superiority complex easily as offensive you may find this board's arguments. Let me put it this way... wouldn't you find it offensive if I pointed out how much more angry and complaint-ridden the Yamato Japan forums are, compared to this site? Then I went on to say how at least we bitch less and less loudly because we're mostly Westerners and Westerners are less bitchy by our nature? It's ridiculous. And racist, really. Toodaloo, good sir. AgentONE - how could possibly think ValkDelight was Hurin - if it'd been Hurin, those posts would have been about 24 paragraphs each. Just messing w/ you, Hurin.
JsARCLIGHT Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 You know, I was sympathetic to this guy's plight at the beginning... then in his replies to Max he just took his "point" a bit too far. I lived in other countries myself and I know that their cultures and societies are different than ours but to claim that everyone in your neck of the woods is bad/good just because that is how you personally feel is just wrong. ValkDelight has stepped waaaaaay over the stereotype boundaries in his claims that just because he is asian he and his "people" are the more demure and mature in all aspects of interaction than us combative westerners. Americans and westerners tend to be more "open" with our opinions and our speach as we have been raised in an "open" society with no boundaries on our ability to express ourselves or voice our opinions, no matter how stupid or combative they are. Anyone can look at one small part of a society and cast blame or judgement on the whole as ValkDelight is doing based on their own experiences. For instance, has anyone seen that RealTV tape of some asian parliament in session where a fight breaks out and the deligates start throwing their shoes at each other? If I was to cast judgement on an entire socio-ecconomic region of the world based on that one singular experience of them I would have to say that asians are also aggressive, violent people that yell and lash out at each other. The knife cuts both ways. ValkDelight, you had a valid point about the quarrelling members on this board until you went down the "We're better than you" road. People are people, no matter what part of the world they are from. Hate, anger, arguments and verbal clashes exsist everywhere, not just in the "West".
EXO Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Will you guys shut up... us asians are trying to sleep here... Geez... Lemme sum up this thread... Hi... I'm new here, but you guys suck.. so BYE!!! But maybe I'll see you guys later, if your still here.... Oh BTW... I'M ASIAN so I'm better than you immodest SOBs!!!!

Pat Payne Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Well, Dr. Crick just died...he discovered the double helix of DNA back in 1948, explaining how a gangly collection of blasocysts can become a thinking human being. He did this by not responding to threads by an obvious thin-skinned individual who can't take a little honest debate (and a little bitching and moaning by fanboys).
do not disturb Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 (edited) deleted, completely pointless, sorry. Edited July 30, 2004 by haterist
Hurin Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 NOTICE: Okay what ever Hurin's or Haterist problem with each other is I don't care. I don't care who started what. I know this isn't the first time you guys clashed. You guy's fighting isn't that interesting. In fact seeing you two clash bores me. Just stay away from eachother. This means don't post on the same topic. Don't make posts that is meant as as insult to the other. I you want to fight do it off the boards. I'm not asking that this threat be carried out in any way. I'm merely reminding someone that we both need to shut the hell up already. I've had my say. You've had yours. Let it go. If you really and truly feel the need to speak with me, as always, you can PM me. H
Duke Togo Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Big sigs suck. Arguments suck. This thread is officially gay. You guys are in more dire need of a blowjob than any group of men in history.

dr_vandermeer Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Sorry to see you go ValkDelight. Your posts were well thought out and articulated. Thank you for logging in just to say goodbye. That was so incredibly thoughtful of you. You were such an important part of the MW community. I will always remember the good times we spent frolicking under the skittles and rainbows in our own little utopia called Asia. Tell everyone in the motherland I said howdy. You will be missed. (wipes tear from eye...)
