areaseven Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I just got back from a 2 1/2 hour drive from San Diego, where I attended my first-ever Comic Convention. Compared to AX2004, it wasn't as impressive, but that's from an anime fan's point of view. I spent most of the day at the Sidewinder Publishing/ReelMarks Studios booth, where we promoted our preview issue of Circle of Darkness. In addition, we had former WWE wrestler Diamond Dallas Page as our special guest. That part will be covered in the WWE and Pro-Wrestling Thread. Now, on to the other booths: ADV Films/Suncoast Same as AX2004. Geneon Entertainment Nothing much here, either. Bandai Entertainment Same booth as AX2004. Nothing much other than Gundam SEED vol. 1 being available in advance. FUNimation Didn't see much from them. Media Blasters Same stuff. Urban Vision Can't say I noticed anything different from AX2004. Viz, LLC Didn't pay attention to it. TOKYOPOP Same old same old. Manga Entertainment Once again, I bumped into Keith Burgess, but at the same time, I met the guy in charge - Marvin Gleicher. He commented that he cannot see a live-action Evangelion happening at all. Also, Manga's was promoting the Sledge Hammer! season 1 DVD set from its new sibling company Anchor Bay. I took less than a dozen pictures, as there wasn't much of anything interesting. I'll post some pics sometime tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a pic of the ADV Babes. Quote
areaseven Posted July 25, 2004 Author Posted July 25, 2004 More news: Yamato USA As expected, Yamato had no Macross toys on display (especially since Toynami's booth was a couple of blocks away). I talked to one of the guys in charge and he agreed that it's a shame that they can't sell their Valks here. He also mentioned about a co-founder who left the company to form his own and obtain the Macross license. And then he said that that company's version of the VF-1 is a complete POS. Yamato had on display prototypes of Ideon, Priss (Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040) and two variants of Zeorymer of the Heavens (Hades Project Zeorymer). I asked the exec when Yamato will release Zeorymer. He said sometime next year. I then told him that if they were to make just one other mecha from that series, it should be Rose C'est la Vie of the Moon. Toynami Bumped into Tom Bateman before checking out Robotech: Invasion. It's not bad at all, but the targeting system needs a little work. Here's another pic I took. This is Tiffany Taylor, November 1998 Playmate of the Month. Quote
Warmaker Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 I really, really wanted to check Comic Con this year. The bad part is that I live in San Diego. The really, really bad part is that I had to work this weekend. Ugh Quote

I asked the exec when Yamato will release Zeorymer. He said sometime next year. But if they make any other mecha they should make Lanster of the Wind. Quote
BoBe-Patt Posted July 25, 2004 Posted July 25, 2004 thanx for the review on Comic con. I guess I don't feel bad that I wasn't able to attend. I really didn't miss much as you guys basically listed everything there that I would've been interested in. It would've been AX times 2 and a whole lot of other stuff. Quote
areaseven Posted July 26, 2004 Author Posted July 26, 2004 Cool news about Zeorymer. But if they make any other mecha they should make Lanster of the Wind. Okay, that one, too. The Zeorymer prototype is about 6" tall. Not sure if I want that size, though. Quote

bigkid24 Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 (edited) Since I stopped reading comic books long ago, my friends and I were pretty much looking for anime related merchandise. Of course most of the vendors with good stuff were from Frank and Sons. Yoshi recognized me and we exchanged a couple of pleasantries. Most of my time was spent trying to pick up exclusive toys, participating in raffles, and getting the Toynami bookends. The two raffles that I really wanted to win were the Alpha raffle on Sunday and the SOTA toys mock ups of their Street Fighter line. I went there with bigben. I had dinner with Egan Loo and Exo. I saw Memo (carne asada guy) and wrylac at the Alpha raffle, and I heard Solscud was running around getting autographs. All in all a good time. Oh and Bobe-Patt, there were some cute girls dressed up as characters. So you did miss something. edit in - Forgot to mention that a vendor had a Low Vis for sale for only....$375! treatment Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 Yeah. it was meh this year compared to last year's. there weren't any pornstars on Saturday, too. Just Jessica Alba and that was an adventure just trying to survive the sardines-like squashing of the fans just to get a glimpse of her. I'll post some pics later, as I'm still trying to free up space, but here are the stuff from the Yamato-USA booth. No valkyries, tho. Quote
Anubis Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 I still love the "no photograph" signs in every converntion picture spread. Why do they bother putting the signs there? Quote
treatment Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 the clearest Jessica Alba snap I got, before getting herded out. Wish I'd bring my handycam with the zoom, instead of just the camera. Quote

bandit29 Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 The Chicago Comicon is coming up soon but we never get any good guests. Every year its Lou Ferrigno(the Incredible Hulk) and Virgil from the WWF/E. He sits there and plays videos of himself from the late 80's. loser We have been getting David Prowse lately. He's still bitching about Star Wars lol Quote

areaseven Posted July 26, 2004 Author Posted July 26, 2004 A7 were you able to tell what kind of articulation the zeroymer and priss figures have? It's hard to tell from what was displayed, but I'm guessing the prototype has the basic articulation of a 1/144 HG Gundam kit. As for Priss, I'm guessing she's as articulate as a G.I. Joe figure. If the visor opens, I will definitely buy one. Quote
EXO Posted July 26, 2004 Posted July 26, 2004 This thread is about to get some heavy bandwidth... Well here's sunny San Diego on the days of the Con ...being attacked by giant robots!!! Quote
