Kin Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Wow this is a cool robot toy! It has more than 60 functions and it's very fast! Check it out! Man I'm gonna save money for this piece Click here Quote
Hikuro Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 I don't think it's THAT amazing of a toy, it's pretty over priced for what you get and I don't htink it's much...it looks more clumsy. I saw a big stack of them at FRY's and well.....it's all plastic......I think I'll wait for QRIO and save up alot mor emoney for something that does a thousand better things. Quote
B-52 GUNNER Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 There's one at my local Hobbytown USA and it looks like it's made of cheap plastic. But I haven't operated it. It still may be cool though. Quote
Solscud007 Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 been there done that saw it at E3 it sucks. But it is more affordable than the Sony Qrio with a 50k price tag Quote
eriku Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 They're alll fine and good until they kill you in your sleep... Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 Aren't those the things they sell at Best Buy? A few weeks back I was wandering the PC game isles and accidentally tripped over one that a Best Buy blueshirt was demoing. Looks like any other plastic kid's toy to me... Quote
aaajin Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 ow... i tot i saw this in a Toy's r Us here in Malaysia...but i didnt check the price though... never knew it would turn up in the forum... aaajin Quote
Hikuro Posted July 18, 2004 Posted July 18, 2004 It's like a 100 dollar item and operates alot like an RC toy. You got your remote and you just hit certain buttons or combinations for the robot to do stuff. But it is made of cheap plastic. I went over to FRY's today and no one was looking at it, but there's like random spots in the store that has like maybe a stack of dozen of 'em in a lil pyrimd shape. I tried using one but it wouldn't do anything, I think it was dead, just stood there in a stupi dlil salsa pose. Quote
Graham Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Lot's of them in TRU & UML in Hong Kong. Don't see anybody buying them though. The manufacturer should hire Kawamori to do the cosmetic styling and the toy should have lots of IR firing weapons, allowing two bots to fight, then I might buy one. Sorta off topic, but did any MWers buy the Kawamori Aibo varient? Graham Quote
RFT Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Kawamori Aibo Variant? Me and the wife have an Aibo (ERS-311 "Latte"). which is the kawamori one? Quote
Gaijin Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 (edited) It's been out for awhile though. The new one is the ERS-7 The specs are impressive. I may even get one. Edited July 19, 2004 by Gaijin Quote
captain america Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 The Robosapien control system was designed by Mark Tilden. He's still under contract to NASA as far as I know, but he seems to have been granted permission to moonlight on toy projects... He also participated in the development of Hasbro's big 14" R2D2 a while back. I used to work for Wow Wee toys years ago. The cheap plastic is a typical Wowwee trademark... Among many other points of lackluster product design. I've offered to help them fix a lot of those shortcomings, as well as offer to help "style" their toys, but alas... Quote
Mechamaniac Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 Iunno, at 2 feet tall, and about a hundred bucks, it would at least be cool to chase my 2 year old around with. Quote
Agent ONE Posted July 19, 2004 Posted July 19, 2004 I know someone with a Sony dog, they said it was more of a pain in the ass to get it to do stuff than it was worth. I imagine the same here. Quote

Commander McBride Posted July 20, 2004 Posted July 20, 2004 I know someone with a Sony dog, they said it was more of a pain in the ass to get it to do stuff than it was worth. I imagine the same here. It's a pain in the ass to get a real dog to do stuff too, though. So it's "realistic" Quote
