B-52 GUNNER Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 OK, OK... I may be better at Photoshop than I thought Quote

VF19 Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 If I felt like busting out the Wacom tonight Id do that. But right now my head hurts, so maybe later. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 THATS MORE LIKE IT!! Hell i mineswell bust out my wacom as well and make some antihornet propaganda while ima t it... ina few more hours boys... Quote
ALLAN Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 These pics just make me sad. The super bug is not a good replacement. The Navy needs a new aircraft to take over the 14s role. Quote
Skull Leader Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 They'll probably adopt a low-vis scheme similar to the one they're currently using... the tailfins aren't black, but they're a really dark grey. I hope they keep the Vegabond stripe somehow... it wouldn't bode well for the bearers of the skull and crossbones to forget their roots For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the scheme they're currently using: Quote
Skull Leader Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 Here's a recent shot of the CAG bird (and a beautiful plane it is!) Quote
Skull Leader Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 (edited) Ok, I couldn't resist.... as another tribute to the most wonderful plane and the most wonderful squadron.... here was the CAG bird during the holliday season of 2000 lol they called it the "santa cat" Edited July 14, 2004 by Skull Leader Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 guys check this out. What the plane itself thinks about itself! Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 but all the info is true too!!! Quote
Firefox Posted July 15, 2004 Posted July 15, 2004 I'm late Frankly the tone down scheme is pretty dull. The skull in the tail fins look like it is simply done. Here is my modification. Just tell the whoever admiral that the plane has been re-painted. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted July 15, 2004 Author Posted July 15, 2004 (edited) One of the things is, Boeing even did "low-vis" AA tailcodes. Even the current low-vis planes in the wing get the lightning-style lettering. See here: Or look at the yellow-tipped CAG about 3 posts above. Edited July 15, 2004 by David Hingtgen Quote
USMCBebop Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 (edited) FYI:AA is the tailcode for the 17th wing. FYI It's Carrier Air Wing 17 (CVW-17). Not the "17th Wing" (someone would think that's Air Force). Edited July 16, 2004 by USMCBebop Quote
USMCBebop Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 (edited) To black tail or not to black tail. Hell, I remember back in '92 when the VF-31 Tomcatters first came to Miramar, the pilots told me that some admiral didn't even like black lettering on gray air planes. Someone said the gray tactical camo is practical and that's a no s****er (for combat anyways). But "When in Rome" show off those colors! Edited July 16, 2004 by USMCBebop Quote
David Hingtgen Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 I abbr. it to 17th wing as I didn't know how well-known "CVW" would be. Quote
USMCBebop Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 I abbr. it to 17th wing as I didn't know how well-known "CVW" would be. No problem! Quote
KingNor Posted July 17, 2004 Posted July 17, 2004 that paint scheme was made to fit a tomcat, it doesn't look good on the hornets. they should come up with a new scheme that actually looks right on the hornet (similar to how the paterns on the Blue Angles change ever time they get diffrent planes) you can't very well force the paint scheme of one vehicle onto another and expect it to look good.
