kodiack12345 Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 It is really amazing I have stumbled across the entire Macross series DVD. What’s even more amazing is I purchased the entire series and finished the whole thing in like 1.5 days. Talk about Macross overload (little VF-1 flying around my head and then the dream that I had about earth getting annihilated by some alien with big ships) go figure it is 36 episodes after all. And my mark on the final at college the next day is … like….. It sure brought back many childhood memories, I mean lots. After watching it, the DYRL movie suddenly makes a little bit more sense like why there is a city in the Macross and how it got there since I totally forgot how it goes. What drove me nuts is that why the DYRL ended the way it is with Minmei tapping on her feet counting 1,2,3,4 plus the ending of the series with Gloval planning about sending Misa on a colonization vessel (SDF-2 Megaroad 1) to ensure mankind’s survival. I just couldn’t take it the way they ended the series and the movie because I knew something is just missing I mean you can’t just end movie and the series like that. Especially with the colonization vessel mentioned in the series it just totally drove me nuts. I MUST SEE MORE. Then came the flashback 2012 which almost made me cry. Wait a minute I did shed some tears….. ah well and things starting to make even more sense. I never seen Misa, Hikaru and Minmei that well animated. It is really good to see them all again. And watching the MegaRoad 1 taking off and to finally see it with my own eyes was absolutely breath taking. One thing that still lingers in my mind is that, some of the things that I have read about the MegaRoad-1 on the internet about it losing communication and it’s disappearance during their mission after a course change is really an official story line of macros or not. I was a little pissed off after reading it and think how they can ever think off ending 2 historical characters (MISA and Hikaru) in the history of Macross like that. It’s like so tragic. I mean just the MegaRoad-1 story from it’s taken off to the exploration of uncharted space could be just an awesome movie or even a TV series it self. If I had the chance I will definitely create a movie based on the Megaroad 1 or even a short movie series as a continuation series of Macross SDF. - Long live to SDF-2 MegaRoad 1 - flashback2012pics.zip
Vince Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Original plan for the tv series was for 27 eps, ending after the space war ended. Since the series was created when Gundam changed the anime formula in the early 80's, sorta testing the water. The extended story line was created because people love Macross(near future, NO super human, etc.). I don't remember how long into the series was the decision made to produce the extra 9 eps though. Thats why the ep 28 and up feel a bit different. I do remember it was report by Japanese anime magazines at the time. I know this for a fact, because the first time I watch the series in Hong Kong was only a few months (or sooner) after the original air date in Japan. I think it was 1984, anyway, me and my friends were follow the anime news closely back then. I even had the first edition Macross Perfect Memory bok, I think I might still have it in storage at ny sister's house. And remember US tv season is 26 weeks, I think that was the reason for the original 27 eps plan.
Hikuro Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Vince, if you really wanna find out check out some of the old boards or past topics here, you'll find out that this is talked about ALOT by newbies and it gets hacked very quickly. People here just really don't care about it and Shoji Kawamori has stated on many occasions he just does not want to deal with it. The story between Hikaru, Misa and Minmay is done and wont be revisited ever again. He decided to leave that up to everyones opinion, could be dead, could be lost in space, who knows. But this type of topic gets sorely looked down upon cause it causes so much evil chatter. As for 27 episodes deal....actually I think they were going to go with ALOT more than the intended 36 episodes. But from what I've gathered some episodes were going to really blow, and the storyline would have gotten way to off balanced from what it was and less believable. I think they were going somewhere in the mid 40's or so, but like I said, storyline, and animation was not going to well. If you look at it, at times the second half of the show started getting a little strange looking and lost some of that lovely touch. But all in all, personally, I don't care what happened to them SDF-2, it's never going to be visited, what you see on Flashback 2012 is pretty much THAT. SDF-2 launches on 2012 from new Macross city, few years later they disappear, and it wasn't till a few years after they vanished it was publicly announced that the first colonization fleet had disappeared. THE END.
Lindem Herz Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Around here, it's usually more like, nice ending, they lived happily ever after, better stick with it because Kawamori won't touch it anymore and I don't think that woudl be good either. Sure, nothing more was ever know of them, but I won't let that mess with my head. If you, however, want a nice and GOOD not so little story about the mroad and why they aren't talking with us, go to fanfiction.net and check out Legend of the Megaroad in the Macross/Robotech section. too bad it's discontinued On the other hand, welcome to the forum, kodiack. Enjoy the madness, have some yoshinol, and careful with any door near AgentONE, don't think you'd want to touch them, let alone open them
Roy Focker Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 I think this was the first most over done topic. Feel free to ask this question under the pinned newbie Q topic.
