Magnus Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/toystan.asp?Queryid=pr015 Good lord, that's a lot of money! I'm not even that impressed with the sculpt. I might pay, at tops, 50-60 dollars for it, but no way in hell would i pay that much! Lord, I guess this should be expected with Toynami. Geez.... Quote
Retracting Head Ter Ter Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 They seem to think that just because Yamato gets away with selling out their 1/48 stock at $120, they can get away with that standard of pricing too. Quote
phatslappy Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 wow that thing is beautiful! It's almost as nice as my bootleg voltron that I bought in Taiwan for 25 bucks Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 priceis old news. Caught it at entertainment earth back in march. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 Hang on... if you read the fine print they are selling the Voltron as 3 sets? Soooooo... are the 3 sets then boxed as one set or are they selling them as three sepparate sets? Just what is the deal? ... oh and does anyone remember the Matchbox Voltron reissue that came out to Toys R Us stores in like 1998 that had all the original metal lions de-neutered with launchers, lion weapons, sword accessories and all other manner of neat kitch? Quote
Retracting Head Ter Ter Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 wow that thing is beautiful! It's almost as nice as my bootleg voltron that I bought in Taiwan for 25 bucks 25 bucks? You were hosed! It should have been $15. Quote
Anubis Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 We knew from before that it was going to be 3 sets. They showed the 3 boxes a few months ago. Total for the 3 combined being 150 is new, but hardly surprising. Looks quite good, but pricey. Better deal than Toynami usually does though. If I only knew what happened to the old one I had though from a few years ago. Lost it in a move somehow. If Voltron goes on sale I'll consider it, but I guess we should be greateful they didn't want 70 or 80 for each box. Quote
Greyryder Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 Actually, I like the sculpt. It has a nice lean look to it, just like on the show. I seem to recall seeing pictures of the lions, and they looked better than the Matchbox big head lions, too. All they need to do is sell it for a reasonable price. I won't pay $60 dollars for a 20th anny Prime, (though I oculd probably be persuaded) I sure as hell won't pay 150 bucks for Voltron. For $50, I'd snag it. Quote
Stamen0083 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 I think the sculpt is nice. It has longer thighs so at least the robot looks more humanoid, and allows the yellow and blue lions to be thinner. But that price tag needs to drop some seventy-five percent. Quote
JRock Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 The Sculpt is good, I admit. But The set BETTER have More Die-Cast in it than the 1/48 Valk for me to consider it. I'm talking as much die-cast as the Binaltech Transformers. Quote
NSJ23 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 ... oh and does anyone remember the Matchbox Voltron reissue that came out to Toys R Us stores in like 1998 that had all the original metal lions de-neutered with launchers, lion weapons, sword accessories and all other manner of neat kitch? It was the trendmasters one. I got mine from tru for $19.99 in 98. Quote
MrDisco Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 I think it's an awesome sculpt. With the right mix of die-cast and weapons this could be a great toy to collect. BUT the high price is a big turn off. Unfortunately I will have to pass on this only b/c of the price. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 trendmasters was a reissue of the godaikin NOT the matchbox. The trendmasters one lacked projectiles but had most of the add on armnaments. Quote
connor99 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 EH, never did like voltron anyway!! I always thought it was a cheap knock-off of the greatest combiner robot of the 80's---VOLTES V!!! Now this I wouldn't mind paying lots of mula for!! Quote
muswp1 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 I like Lion Voltron, but not for $150.00. $50-$75, maybe but $150 is way too high. Quote
Cyclone Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 New toys, series to be release on DVD here locally I'd rather have Vehicle Voltron. My classic action figure size Matchbox Lion Voltron more than meets any Lion Voltron requirements I'll ever have by a factor of 10... Cyc Quote
Californium Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 Is that verified as the final sculpt, or might it just be a mock-up of what they would "like" the final version of bot mode to look like? Either way, my reception to this thing remains, for now, a bit chilled. Quote
Prowlus Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 (edited) for $150 it had better have the lion's individual weapons along with the Blazing Sword Voltron ain't voltron without that Edited June 7, 2004 by Prowlus Quote
therealfolkblues Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 This is a pretty popular topic over on the official Voltron message boards. They are making the mistake of justifying the cost for this thing by bringing up the fact that Toynami is promising it to have plenty of die cast. Us here at Macrossworld have heard these claims before obviously(MPC "Veritech" anyone?). When I brought this up, just to make sure that no one gets disappointed or misled, it was not taken very well. Oh well, they'll learn the hard way I guess Quote
Blaine23 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 My Trendmasters version is just fine... and I got three of them on sale for $9.99 each. I can guarantee this one won't have nearly the die-cast that one does. You can damage cars with Trendmasters version. And it's really not like I want a more accurate looking robot made up of five lions. Quote
bsu legato Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 (edited) Bah, you guys are all just hatin' on Toynami. What part of "Masterpiece" don't you guys understand? It's clearly the most accurate Voltron known to mankind. I'd easily pay $200 for that. In fact, I just sent Toynami a blank cheque and told them to fill in the amount. No price is too high for the privilege of owning such fine craftsmanship. None of us are worthy to own the MPC Voltron. It's only by Toynami's uttmost charity that we are allowed to purchase it. Oh yeah..... Edited June 7, 2004 by bsu legato Quote
VF5SS Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 What are you guys getting so excited about? That's not even a prototype, its a wooden mockup. Quote
Godzilla Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 bah. Taking the wait and look attitude. They pissed me off enough on the 1st "veritech". Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 id rather spend 30$ on the discounted big ass trendmasters voltron that could hold figures in each lion! gijoe sized figures!! oh yea nad it was 60$ full priced.. too bad i didnr buy that bastard on discount Quote
soze Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 Hmmm after detesting the sculpt at first... It's starting to grow on me. Although that $150 price tag is a bit waaaay overpriced. You can get a Dancouga for that price, which is more worthy of that price tag. Anyway, hopefully prices from other vendors are around the $100 or less range. Quote
jasonkimberson Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 it looks alright, i just want to see how well they hold together unlike the magnet fp's Quote
BoBe-Patt Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 I actually like the way this toy looks, but like everybody said about the price tag. ACK!!! Quote
EXO Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 talk about raping your childhood. First RT, now Voltron... I bet they're going after Thundercats and MASK so they can sell us each figure for $25, release it as limited so that the price can skyrocket to $150 each. Quote
JRock Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Where could you get a Dancougar for $150?! I would like to know. Please refrain from mentioning Ebay (Home of the butt raping shipping costs layer of hell). Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 mattle may have messed up he man but i dont think they will let sucvh a great brand like mASK to go to such subp[ar quality of toynami. Mattels new he man figures have better quality than the masterpiece collection figures. LOL and teh sad thing is...its true Quote
Greyryder Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 We should buy one and send it to Hong Kong, so we can get an affordable knock off. Quote
Khyron Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 OK Why are people saying Toynami is raping Voltron. Besides the price, the new toy looks great. How can you honestly say the old Matchbox version looks better? Quote
Smiley424 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 the sculpt looks okay, but I will definately have to see this sucked up close and personal before I even consider paying $150 for this. definately needs to have alot of diecast parts for that price, plus all the lion add on weapons, mouth sword things for each individual lion, as well as blazing sword and the throwing star thingy too. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 OK Why are people saying Toynami is raping Voltron. Besides the price, the new toy looks great. How can you honestly say the old Matchbox version looks better? NOPE but I can sure as hell say the trendmasters reissue and giant version with gijoe sized figures was!!! reissue=30$ giant=60$ 20-10$ on discount matchbox...evben that big bastard was cheaper than 150$. This is toynami we are talking about. NOw that they haev that pricepoint it wouldnt surprise me if the BETA costs 150$ sure it may look DECENT(for the love of god that thing looks PLAIN but okay...nothing spectaculr) can you honestly say you would honk down 150$ for something not even a foot tall? Whn the reissue went for 30$ and undrobtedly probbaly has assloads more diecast? Looks dont equal everythiung people. UNlike the 1.48 valk, a voltron robot doesnt need that much anal detailed painstakingly mindboggling transformation...especially when toynami UNDOUBTEDLY gets their transformations from PREVIOUS TOYS. IN a sense its called INDIRECT ripoff. this toy would be AWESOME for 30$ but 150?> MY ASS. Quote
