bsu legato Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 As much as I deride all things HG, it would actually make sense if they had changed her hair color for the remasters. Of course, that's a lot of footage to alter, but it would still be nice. Quote
Caufield Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 (edited) I must say. She looks very sweet, much better. Love the hair and the body.. oh yeah.. the armour is nice too Edited May 28, 2004 by Caufield Quote

JsARCLIGHT Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 I know this is a total nitpick but that wire stock on the weapon she has is totally weirding me out. I was not aware there where any infantry weapons in the southern cross arsenal with wire stocks... plus that weapon should most likely have a pistol grip riiiiiiight there where her shoulder is and it doesn't have one. So I'm guessing it is a future laser STEN gun with a scope. Quote
gnollman Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Nii-iiice.... Where did you get that, Ali Sama? Quote
Ali Sama Posted May 28, 2004 Author Posted May 28, 2004 Nii-iiice.... Where did you get that, Ali Sama? the original ver is on robotech.com Quote
GreenGuy42 Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 You know, I strongly disliked the SC series with regards to the Robotech edit. Dana got on my nerves everytime I saw her on screen.. anyhow... ...with this edit, I actually like the SC armor, and her character design is far better. Blasphemy or not, I think HG improved on a character... Quote
EXO Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Yup, I agree with Greenguy. That new look totally changes her from that annoying girl from RT. And the armor looks better also. Quote
Noriko Takaya Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Okay, if we're going by the Robotech storyline, she is definitely her mother's daughter now. Miriya would love the hair! I love the hair. I now am having strange feelings for Dana that weren't there before... Quote
TheLoneWolf Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 By far, the best American illustration of Dana yet. But, like JsArclight said, what the hell is going on with that gun? Is it canon? Quote

I was not aware there where any infantry weapons in the southern cross arsenal with wire stocks... plus that weapon should most likely have a pistol grip riiiiiiight there where her shoulder is and it doesn't have one. Actually...its based on the sketch of Jeanne's armor in This is Animation Special #10: The Southern Cross that shows the PR-20 with a recoil suppression stock (I know this because I did a writeup of the PR-20 for the Robotech.com Infopedia). As for the pistol grip....to be fair...it isnt built directly at the end of the weapon. Quote
scand Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 I've got mixed feelings towards it. I can't really picture Dana without blonde hair. That's like someone taking Millia's hair and turning Her into a red head. It's sorta hard getting used to her having green hair. But Most importantly what is Robotech: The Masters? A golf tournement?! Quote
Bloodcat Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 I approve, though I would prefer the armor to be full body instead of that midriff exposing bodysuit bit.. Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 I would prefer the armor to be full body instead of that midriff exposing bodysuit bit.. Well.... while the proportion may be off a bit, the ATAC Armor (male and female) both have fewer solid plates than other SC armors. The lace up of the armor clearly shows that the breastplate extends to just below the ribcage only where it attaches to the undersuit. This is to allow for mobility of the pilot. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 Ugly never liked Tommy Yune character designs ! Quote

As for the pistol grip....to be fair...it isnt built directly at the end of the weapon. If that is what it is supposed to be it looks nothing like it... plus the proportions are all off. Nothing on that weapon looks anything like the pictures you posted. Sure it somewhat resembles the top one if you screw up all the proportions, squint your eyes and use your imagination... It's like Yune forgot to draw the whole other half of the gun. Both of those guns appeared in the series and where quite large full size main battle rifles. And you would still see that pistol grip somewhere under her arm or even with her shoulder, along with the muzzle of the gun which would easily be visible on the other side of Jeanie given the angle the thing is drawn at. The gun on her back is a very, very short weapon... about the size of a STEN or an Ingram. If it was a longer weapon you'd see it sticking out on the other side. All I see is her helmet... which she is gripping like a pro basketball player. Plus if you have ever shot a real weapon with a wire stock you know they are in no way "recoil suppressing", more like "shoulder destroying". If you have a pic from that book with a shot of a wire stock on a southern cross weapon I'd love to see it as wire stocks kind of went out of use in the 60's. And what is holding that gun on her back? All the weapons I saw in southern cross had slings... this one is just sort of glued onto her back. The only items that magically "glue" onto the back of the armor in that show where the backpacks... Yes I am nitpicking but it is mainly because this is another Tommy Yune pic that is more pulled from his butt than from the original designs. I understand artistic license and all but at least stick to the established tech. Edited May 28, 2004 by JsARCLIGHT Quote
Anubis Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 I think she looks pretty good there. Though I have yet to see Masters or SC. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 (edited) OK I found the pic that 1BRD was most likely talking about (see pic below). He was right about the wire stock... for god's sake why did they put a wire stock on that thing?... but anyway look at the position and size of the pistol grip and the length of the weapon. Both the pistol grip and the muzzle should be visable in the picture. Add to that the fact that the thing has a sling and should be seen with the sling. I think it should also be noted that this pic was of a pre-production design test and not an actual in design item. The design of the ATAC rifle changed quite a bit from this into the one that is seen in the pic 1BRD already posted and that is the one seen in the animation. All Tommy Yune drew was the back end of the gun. We should see the rest of it sticking out at all angles from behind her... his artwork forces us to believe that gun is a tiny thing as it simply vanishes behind her very trim and small back. Also take into account the proportions of the armor in this predesign art. Tommy's have been slim-fasted big time and thus that gun should actually be larger than it appears as the armor has less surface area to hide it now. Once again all these things are nitpicks but I am just a person who gets tired of people redesigning and using non-seen-in-the-show stuff artwork for things that are supposed to be show related. Not pointing any fingers here but the japanese creators of these shows don't seem to have that problem as much as us yanks do... but that is what tends to happen when you are just copying someone else's design and not drawing one of your own. You make mistakes because you do not understand the design like the creator does and dorks like us catch those mistakes. It just bothers me when things are not "right", I guess it was those two years of drawing from life in college. Edited May 28, 2004 by JsARCLIGHT Quote

It would be nice if they altered all that footage... but it would make even more sense if they were going to add/alter footage to sort out that weird mess of a Macross Saga ending... SDF-2? I don't see no SDF-2? All that being said, I dig the pic. As for continuity, they'll probably just say "Dana dyed her hair in SC, 'cause she's all girly! And now we're changing it back." Quote

SDF-2? I don't see no SDF-2? Yeah, that would have made all kinds of sense too. If they were going to do this, they should gone all the way and "Special Editioned" the hell out of Robotech, not just tinker with the sound mix. Oh well, I guess her hair will likely stay bubbly blonde. Quote
the white drew carey Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 There is no Dana, only Zoul. Are you the keymaster? After seeing this picture: I can really appreciate how much they screwed up the armor in order to make it "sexy". Considering I've always been a fan of the Southern Cross armor, I'm kind of ticked. We don't have female soldiers in Iraq running around in shiny skintight kevlar outfits, do we. No they wear combat fatigues that are designed for combat, not to be sexy. Quote
EXO Posted May 28, 2004 Posted May 28, 2004 That image of Dana is hardly porn and they didn't stray away from the original that much. Most of the complaints here are merely nitpicks or putting the art in question under the microscope so that they could complain about RT produced material (except Js, he's just anal about his weapons and guns).
