KingNor Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 where can i go to find very good information on insect bites? a friend of mine is getting eaten alive by something, small bites all over. we thought it was fleas from her new cat, but after washing the cat in flea dip, the sheets in bleach and flea bombing the house, she's still getting bit. we havn't actually found ANY bugs so we thought it might be bed bugs, they hide during the day, but after cleaning her sheets they should have been taken care of. these are definately seem like bites of some kind, not a rash. they're ichy, uncontrolably so, sometimes. they are small and in my opinion look like they come from the inside out... there is no visible "bite" before they swell. medical forums, insect forums, good websites, anything would be helpful, we're gettin pretty frustraited by all this. i don't really know where to start on something like this. thanks guys!
GreatMoose Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 First place I'd go is www.webmd.com. I'll check around for some others. good luck!
Ali Sama Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 (edited) take her to a doctor first. she might be having an alergic reaction. nsect bites may be grouped, raised (papular), hive-like (urticarial) and have a surrounding halo. Occasionally a central depression, or punctum, can be seen. if you do not see that she has a rash. Edited May 26, 2004 by Ali Sama

trueblueeyes Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Sand fleas maybe? Nasty little buggers and almost invisible to the naked eye. I think they are only something like 1/10th of an inch in size but they can still leave a nasty bite. Our local casino was infested with the damn things and they were very hard to get rid of. Not sure what your bug problem is, but good luck! And it wouldn't hurt your friend to have an allergy test done. Chances are they are bites, but there is a possibility (however small) that she is suffering an allergic reaction to something....
GreatMoose Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 (edited) Sounds like a rash of some sort, especially since you don't actually see a bite. Could be mites, bedbugs don't usually attack the whole body. Do the red marks have white centers? If so, it could be hives. Edited May 26, 2004 by GreatMoose
jwinges Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Actually bed bugs don't necessarily hide in sheets. I had a friend who had an infestation of these. His bite marks looked like hives so the Dr thought he was having a nervous breakdown from work. They put him on some expensive steroid for it. Turned out that his matress was infested with bed bugs. There was also a news story about bed bugs a month or so ago say that occurances of them were on the rise nation wide. If your in AZ it could be black widows too. If there's a nest in your bed and they hatch look out. Lots of swelling and pain adead. Good luck.
EXO Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 (edited) I got a nasty spider/bedbug bite a couple of weeks ago on my thumb. That stupid monster Iraq spider thread scared the crap out of me cuz it looked like that thumb bite that the guy had. Fortunately it had been 2 weeks for me and pretty much dried up and that guy had it for 8 days when it blew up. Yuck! I washed my sheets and dunk my thumb in alcohol when I saw it for the first time. It made me scream out like a little girl. Add: the alcohol, not the spider. Edited May 26, 2004 by >EXO<

fulcy Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 It made me scream out like a little girl. Wait, I thought you were a little gurl
KingNor Posted May 26, 2004 Author Posted May 26, 2004 i'm working on getting photos, but what they look like is little mounds maybe half a ich, 1/2 in diameter. they are raised and more or less the same color as the skin, there is no red but if i remember correct, they are a tad lighter than the rest of her skin. a few have gon away but left tiny marks. flea sites document this as normal and taking a few months to go away, but like i said, i'm not entirely convinced its fleas.
EXO Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 It made me scream out like a little girl. Wait, I thought you were a little gurl I'm not so you can stop sending me those pictures...
halfan Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 It could be scabies. The constant itching sounds like what my dad picked up on the road. Check with a dermatologist. He was given a special cream that would kill them in one or two shots. Only bad part everyone in the house had to wash with it also.
