Otaku-Smeghead Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I was awakened today with several phone calls from cast members and Doug to pass along the terrible news that this morning, Richard Biggs passed away. We're still gathering information, so take none of this as firm word, but what seems to have happened, happened quickly. He woke up, got up out of bed...and went down. The paramedics who showed up suggested it was either an aneurysm or a massive stroke. His family members have been informed, and all of the the cast have, as far as we can determine, also been informed. This is a terrible loss for all of us. Richard was a consummate professional but more than that he was an honorable, stand-up guy. If he gave you his word on something, you never had to wonder about it afterward. He was always helpful and supportive of all the cast, even those who only came in for one episode, always with a ready smile and determined to do whatever it took to make the scene work. He was, quite simply, a terrific guy, and everyone here is just devastated at the news. (this is from JMS creator of B5) Damn that Sucks.. the Guy was Young too
Mechamaniac Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 That truly sucks. I was a big B5 fan until I missed two episodes in a row, and so much happened that I was totally lost. Anyway, I always like his character, that really does suck.
Major Johnathan Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Is this true or just a rotten rumor? He was a very likeable guy... how old was he? Anyway, sorry to hear it...
usagiz Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Saw it on CNN... Pretty sad for us B5 and soaps fans... http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/25/o...iggs/index.html
Otaku-Smeghead Posted May 26, 2004 Author Posted May 26, 2004 Is this true or just a rotten rumor? He was a very likeable guy... how old was he? Anyway, sorry to hear it... He was 40 and its no rumor thqat quote I posted was from JMS himself taken from the B5 news group
Anubis Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I read this yesterday. Very sad, he was only in his 40's.
mechatek Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 I was truly surprised by the sad news. I met Mr. Biggs at two B5 conventions and he was very friendly to us fans. He will be missed.
Effect Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 This sucks, my thoughts go out to his family. He's character was actually my favorite on the series to be honest.
Mr March Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Terrible news! Richard Biggs did a fantastic job with the character of Franklin on Babylon 5. He made much more out of the role than the stereotypical "medical character", thanks in part to both his considerable skill as an actor and Joe Micheal Straczynski's writing talent. It's terrible to see people die so young. Humans are meant to pass late in life, not mid life.
TangledThorns Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 RIP to Jerry Doyle who played Michael Garibaldi. I enjoyed listening to his radio show last decade too. http://www.thewrap.com/jerry-doyle-dead-babylon-5-actor-epictimes-founder-died-60/
Mazinger Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Damn. What's happened to this cast is crazy compared to how long we had the original ST cast with us. I still hold out hope that someone will reboot the series in the future.
TehPW Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 *sigh* It was still good that he kept doing stuff 'til the end.... *Salute!*
slide Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) I bet Walter Koenig was behind it! Not likely, He's the sweetest old man. Met him at my local Comic-con and got his autograph on my B5 season 1 DVDs. Chief Garibaldi was my favorite... this is terrible news to Paraphrase Captain Sinclair: "Goodbye Old Friend" Edited July 29, 2016 by slide
areaseven Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Damn, it's been over a decade since Otaku-Smeghead passed away. He was fun to hang out with during the early years of MWCon. R.I.P.
