I do not know how many of you are fans of this anime or not, but Media Blasters has announced that Kite is going to be released completely unedited sometime in September of 2004. Take this as you wish, but being a fan of the anime, I am glad. I currently do not own the Director's Cut, so this version with the footage cut out will be new to me.

I just wonder what was done to get this anime released fully uncut in the US?

From my understanding, everybody says it is borderline hentai. I know the director's includes the sex scenes that was largely left out in the initial release.

Yeah, the sex edited out is pretty clearly between a minor and an adult, and is quite questionably consentual... in other words, I thought it was plain molestation and rape, but I understand it could be construed otherwise.

This is one I won't be picking up....

If this is the truth: anime containing sex between minor and an adult, it should not be shown or brought into US. (BTW, that is sick!!!!!!)

I do not know anything about this anime. However, US law prohibits any media displaying or showing sex with minor, usually known as "Child Porn". If the company distributing the anime is located in the US and/or company associated with having this anime release should get ready for enforcement activity by customs and/or postal boys/gals

I hope that non of this is true (Anime showing sex with a minor. If in fact it is true, I hope at least non of the MW members will support and buy this anime.

they claim that everyone in the movie is over 19 but its obvious that there are minors, one of em is even 12 years old  but since animated sizes and proportions vary alot, its hard to prove the age of character

Okay, before any of you out there think I condone sex with minors, I have to say I have never seen the unedited version of this anime. So I do not condone it. And from what sex is in the DVD as it was originally released I am under the assumption that Sawa was already over the age of consent, seeing as how she is of college age. I just found it interesting that this anime was making its way here unedited.

Maybe it would be good to have this thread killed before it starts a flame war which I did not intend to start.

That is shame....

US Supream court ruled recently that unless the actual actress/actor or person (Including cartoon) being pertrade in the picture is a minor, it is not illegal. Meaning, they can have 19 year old person playing 13 years old in the movie and they can get away with it.

Something to think about on what is going on in this country this days....

The law does not apply to animated works, hence this new completely unedited release.

The difference between this and the "directors cut" that was released two years ago is that while that release restored the sex scenes, it left around twenty seconds or so of footage cut that involved a flashback to the main character being molested when she was much younger.

This release will likely restore those scenes.

Are you sure the law does not apply to anime????

Sometimes people get into a lot of problem with the FEDs, because they interpret the law themselves to their liking....

Kite has a good story, and the sex just added a bit to it. I checked out both the original and the director's cut and I don't find it "sick or anything, cause i'm pretty sure it happens to real life too." It's not Hentai yet. As for their age, if they say they're 19 , then they are 19 since it's anime,, people can look deform, fly, lift tanks, etc.

I mean come on,, "Looney toons" show violence all the time, they run around nude, shooting each other, killing each other and even try to eat each other.

Oh, if you want to talk about hentai, then Mezzo Forte is Hentai with a story.

The only lure to this anime is the sex anyway. Though it's said to have a plot it's just your standard we created a monster syndrome. Not a good cartoon in it's own right. The classic Shirow Black Magic M-66 does a better job at that unoriginal genre. Yasuomi Umetsu's other hentai anime Mezzo Forte was a lot more interesting.

I'm just wondering why they are importing it now... do they feel that there's suddenly an audience for this type of "entertainment" where there wasn't before?

That's why (and I know a lot of you are gonna disagree with me) I think it's better that, for the sake of anime's reputation in the US, this one DOESN'T get released uncut. Fandom's only just recently succeeded in living down the early glut of "tentacle hentai" titles that appeared in the early '90s leading certain pundits and religious figures to condemn all anime as that. In this country, the activities in those cut scenes are so repellent (and that includes me -- I have zero interest in seeing that sort of crap, and I'm no prude) that the mere mention that someone's depicting them, even in a form that does not put a real minor at risk, will set off a firestorm of anger, one that could possibly be loosed at anime in general. Think if certain talk show hosts (like Bill O'Reilly) hear about this. We'll never hear the end of it -- and we've already seen that they command a large and vocal audience who can boycott and perhaps force some retailers to drop anime.

And please, just because Federal law says it's OK, don't think that means that every locality will. Remember that a certain ADV title had to be edited because what was shown was declared obscene in three cities out of the entire nation. And if they find it even being mailed through their city (stopping momentarily in a post office en route to its final destination) they can arrest the seller and buyer -- even if neither reside in that locality -- and try them in the city's own court.

Please. Not only is that overly dramatic, but it shows a lack of knowledge of the current hentai market.

You may not have noticed, but this kind of content is already quite commonly available.

People just either don't realise it (see the mentions of Kite's main character being 19 in this thread? She's actually 16, they just change "high school" to "college" in the subtitles and dub to mask that fact) or are unaware that it can be bought.

If the idea of 20 seconds of unpleasant material being restored to Kite is offputting to you, you'd likely have an aneurysm over something such as Princess 69 which I call tell you is much, much worse.

what anime was this?

Posted

I originally bought Kite because the narrative on the back of the case compared it to The Professional, which is one of my favorite movies. Talk about false advertising. <_< This anime has so little merit that the restored sex scenes are basically the only thing keeping it alive.

Posted

I would rather they did release it. As Eriku has stated a lot of people have obtained this cartoon because of false advertising. If it was originally released as an adult product then people would be more aware of what it really is and relegated behind the perv curtain. It probably wouldn't be as popular as it is now and enjoyed the minimal audience that other hentai anime do. Also, if they would have released it officially, all the molestation and child porn scenes would have been "cleaned up" as pathetically as they could thru sub and dub.

Sheesh...everyone getting worked up on this? Personally, I've never seen any incarnations of Kite. I'm surprise of all this hoopla...and no one bats and eye over Eva, especially in EoE. <_<

While I an NOT a hentai fan, I saw the director's cut. The "hentai" scenes do add a component to understanding the story, the "assassin" part of the story was excelent and is what draws me to the story. If there is an "edited" version, I need to see if I can find it. Comparing it to "The Professional", or comparing it to "le'fem Nakita" (SP?) I think is very fitting, IMHO.

Now if I could find a pistol that was selectable between explosive ammunition and traditional, I'd be in Heaven :)

Okay take a deep breath and repeat after me:

The sex is not real. These are animated characters.

Heh big deal over little thing. It's not real so what's the problem? It wasn't a great anime by far, I saw the edited version a long time ago. Beside's it's not like sexist doesn exist for people under the age of 18 in real life. :p

::gasp:: Some members of this board have committed stauatory rape because some of them got laid before they were 18, with other people under 18. CALL THE POLICE! (yes this is sarcasm) :o:unsure::p:lol:

what anime was this?

"Night Shift Nurses." ADV was told by its lawyers that some of the acts depicted in that title (dealing with execretory functions) were legally defined as obscene in three communities in the US and that ADV could be prosecuted on obscenity charges even if the DVDs merely passed through them en route to someplace else.

And yes, Panon, they do usually get around the minor thing by changing the ages in the dialogue. They CAN'T do that with those scenes in Kite, because whereas Miko Mido could plausibly be 19 for the purposes of a US release, young Sawa is very recognizably in her young teens. That's the difference.

NGE had some young children in it, occasionally depicted in a sexual manner, but that's really not the same as several graphic scenes depicting full-on intercourse.

Comparing KITE to Evangelion is far more offensive than any hentai. :p

I liked Kite cut.

I liked Kite, the Director's Cut.

And I'll probably enjoy Kite fully restored.

I liked Mezzo Forte. But thought the hentai was just too arbitrary.

Can't wait to see the series though.

Hentai:

Child Pornography:

Real child porn = Bad. Cartoon child porn = Legal.

"The United States Supreme Court decided in 2002 that the American prohibition of simulated child pornography is unconstitutional (Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition)."

I know, wasn't meant to be a direct comparison. But NGE did depict underage kids (13 y.o. right?) in sexually titillating situations. Isn't that at least borderline "obscenity" according to US laws? I guess Gendo fondling Rei isn't obscene cuz she's a doll right? ;)

Shoot, I bet if showed NGE to a bunch of congressmen, at least a few would have a hissy fit.

Watched Kite uncut, was .. interesting.

Watched Mezzo forte, thought was pretty mad, kinda funny to with the character interactions and bantering, and just the whole 'cold blooded killing rich bit#h' that was in it heh.. :)

Both the shows I guess i personally felt a bit uncomfortable when the sex scenes were on that someone would walk in while it was on tele, but again, its only anime, half the time i have no idea what age they are really meant to be anyway, and usually its over pretty quick, in comparison to the action scenes.

Thankfully. :p

And I think it has always been argued whether it needed the scenes or not, to help show how a disparageing? a situation she was really in (in kite)

It just comes down to this: its not for everyone :)

Im also looking forward to seeing the series of Mezzo, it should be action packed !! yay!

:)

My 2 cents, which isn't reallly even worth that much LOL
