Dat Pinche Haro! Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I went to the comic book shop last week and the comic guy told me about a movie Hiroaki Samura (W/A of Blade of the Immortal) made a couple years ago. I forgot if he just wrote it, or directed it or whatever. The movie was about these guys who rampage through Japan killing everyone...There comes along an old Japanese general that picks up kids who servived from these slaughters and teaches them to become mercenaries (basically). So these kids assasinate the leaders of the "badguys" I forgot what the movie was called and I was wondering if anyone could help me with the name or where I could get the movie from. Thanks in advance for any help! Quote
EXO Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 I'm checking with my list to see if anyone has info about this. I'm a big Samura fan and I have never heard of this. If anyone knows it'll be this group... I'm guessing those guys at the shop were misinformed. Quote
Dat Pinche Haro! Posted May 8, 2004 Author Posted May 8, 2004 I spent a few hours looking on the net for anything related but nothing...just Blade of the Immortal stuff...I'm starting to wonder if the guy mistaked Samura for another manga writer Quote
EXO Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 No Samura's only other work besides piups and covers is Ohikkoshi. A romantic comedy manga. And a bunch of S&M drawings that would make Shirow's Man-Horse porn look like kid's stuff... Anyway, here's the reply from Andy... he's the go to guy on Samura's stuff... Nope, Hiroaki Samurai didn't have anything to do with that really- It waswritten and directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, not Samura. The movie is called Azumi ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0384819/ ), directed by Ryuhei Kitamura who also did Versus and Dead or Alive, as well as the GameCube remake of Metal Gear Solid. So Comic Book Guy was wrong. As Comic Book Guys often are. :-) But the action scenes one might say "look like they might belong in Blade of the Immortal". But no connection. Pretty cool flick, heavy on drama, with fight scenes that can sometimes be a liiiiiiittle too long. Actually, I just sold the DVD last week on eBay! ;-) -Andy I remember discussing this movie with the group a few months back. But have yet to see it. Quote
EXO Posted May 8, 2004 Posted May 8, 2004 Oh he also did the character designs for Tenchu. The japanese version had his illustration for the cover. Quote
Dat Pinche Haro! Posted May 8, 2004 Author Posted May 8, 2004 THANK YOU!! That's all I wanted to know!! Quote
Dat Pinche Haro! Posted May 8, 2004 Author Posted May 8, 2004 here's a synopsis i found on some random site...sounds exactly what the comic book guy said A warrior, who's son was slain during a pointless battle, is assigned a private mission by a high priest. It is up to him to try and stop the madness of wars that wreak havoc upon feudal Japan. To compose a team of assassins, he goes and recruits young children who's parents were murdered. Retreating into a secret location in the mountains, he trains these children to become skilled and deadly assassins. When the children became young adults, their master announces that they are ready to engage in their "mission." For the first time ever, these assassins, who knew nothing but the way of the sword, are let out into the real world. Together, they must assassinate three warlords who threaten the land of Japan with the agenda of war. With numerous obstacles standing between them and their mission's success, it is up to their instincts and dexterity to complete what could very well be the peace-bringing mission to mend together a nation on the brink of war.
