I wonder if it's possible to drasticaly scale down a Macross cannon type gun to something the size of a hugh mech bazooka.

Not very likely, the Macross Cannon fires superdimensional energy, and that requires a superdimensional ship :D

Actually, the strike cannon is a particle beam period. If you watched the last scene in DYRL where Hikaru's Strike VF-1S unloaded all of hell into Doza, you'll see his strike cannon hitting first with a long beam. It blew his head out along with peppered shots from the GU-11.

There is no need to target anything there at that time unless the micro missiles required target info.

If the strike cannon was used to target capitol ships EG Macross II VF-2SS, then I would say strenght wise, the Strike VF-1S could blow a whole into a GBP-S VF-1S before all the missiles landed. Now, it also remains to be scene if the VF-1S can outfly that barrage of incoming micro missiles.

Which game was the stampede from anyways? It is listed in Design Works.

Actually, if the RO-X2A was a particle beam cannon-more than likely that would be stated as other Macross mecha which have particle beam weapons and their spec data states so (Tomahawk Destroid, Armored GERWALK development, Stampede Valkyre etc.). Though unofficial, MAT (Chiba, et. al.) has specified that the Strike Valkyrie's beam cannon uses heavy x-rays.

Wouldn't Heavy X-Rays (any X-Ray type) be classified as particle weapons since x-rays photon particles at a certain wavelenght? Continuous output of particles would produce a beam or at least impulses of "shots".

That's right.

The text by MAT, altought unofficial does state that the RÖ-2A high-powered double-action beam cannon, then called HBCP-2 (High-powered beam cannon pod-two) by them was an x-ray laser cannon.

The company Mauler (in Macross, Mauser in real life), is a famous German gun manufacturer. An interesting tidbit: if you do a search for RÖV, you will references to "Röntgenverordnung" - Röentgen ordinance (regulation) with RÖV, it was Röntgen, a German scientist who discovered x-rays. The Mauler RÖV-20 laser/beam gun ordnance would also seem to be an x-ray type laser weapon, like the RÖ-2A. I doubt its just a coincidence-perhaps a play on words.

Actually, the opposite conclusion can be made. First, set aside the Macross Attack Team/"Multi-Configulation Analysis Team" unofficial fan doujinshi and focus on Studio Nue's own information.

Shoji Kawamori himself makes a careful distinction between laser weaponry and beam weaponry for Macross, and does not mix the two terms. When Shoji Kawamori does want to specify that a weapon is a laser, he specifies it as such (e.g. RöV-20, Spartan, VA-3, and more). Also, Shoji Kawamori avoids mixing the terms and calling a Macross weapon the term "laser/beam" or "laser beam" in specifications.

By the way, the MAT doujinshi does not say "heavy" X-rays.

Once again, please do not rely on the data seen only in the Macross Attack Team/"Multi-Configulation Analyis Team" doujinshi. The MAT data claims the "HBCP-02" pod uses "nuclear pulse" to generate the "X-ray" "laser." Studio Nue's own data states the RO-XA2 pod uses chemical reaction to generate the beam.

[incidentally, people maybe wondering about the RO-XA2 designation. The This is Animation Special: Macross Plus book made a few mistakes with its designation that's propagated elsewhere.]

I always assumed that the strike cannon was a laser that was tapping directly into the nuclear power plant of the valkryie. So, if that were the case, wouldn't the capacity of the strike cannon be effectively unlimited? Or am I making (numerous) bad assumptions?

A weapon of that power & type confined to such a small system, with limited cooling and calibrating capabilities might mean that it can only fire a limited number of shots before the device is completely shot & needs to be overhauled and recalibrated in the hanger.
