wait a minute, where is that Zaku reaching for? With all this, The Zaku makes his last desperate attempt at fliping some skirt

Keep up the good work, love your action poses

yep last attempt to get Gundam off by squeezing its ball - that is if it has one or two... :p

Hmm... I don't know if this is beyond your skill, but you could use some improvement in the damage department. You've got the poses down pat, but the damage done to both the Gundam and Zaku II is somewhat unrealistic (well, to be fair, Gundams and Zakus aren't real in the first place). For example, the leg that's been severed on the Zaku, you could build the leg as is, and then using a hot wire, slice the leg at the point where the beam saber lopped it off (beware of plastic fumes). You could then rough up the remains of the leg, and then paint the kit, and then drybrush some silver onto the damage part.

All in all, though, it's shaping up to be a great diorama!

well I could if I have my tools with me but I'm building with just knife and nipper and small piece of sand paper... :(

the damage is more by the exploding shell rather than beam saber...

Gundam is on top of it to finish off as it's about to pull out the beam saber...

damage mod is still early in-progress...

just spent few minutes to do zaku's left leg frame bit...

by the time I finalise the pose and position then I can spend more time to build the inner frame/skeleton based on drawings...

[EDIT]

How about this then?

what I could do with knife and few spare runner in few minutes... :p

Hmm... You could use the nipper to tear and twist the armour to represent an exploding shell.

The knife you could heat and use it to flex and warp the plastic.

But looking good!

i wish... I just use little cutter knife - you know the type you can break off bits for new sharp edge... it's too small to use heated up I'm afraid... :(

And hacing extra holiday with x-mas fell on Sunday no one opened today so I couldn't get anything since Sunday... :( I may use soldering iron to melt the edge of the cut off line to imitate the beam saber cut...

for the damage inner frame I will probably ended up making separate unit to glue into - those are just for guide only...

Posted

How about you use a cigarette lighter to melt some of the edges?

Those PG in the background of some of the shots look incredible. How much does it take to paint them that good? Do you use an airbrush to get that weathered effect?

Posted (edited)

i don't smoke and only thing I have is lighter oil for weathering... :p

PG are the ones I used for shading long time ago...

if you like check out the original posting here.

I may build another PG Gundam with fully coloured internal skeleton with MAX style armours... (when I get my air brushing setup shipped from old man's place...)

at that time I didn't know about MAX style so it was applying shadow over the painted armour... MK-II was the first one I tried resulting very heavy shadow while Zaku is the 3rd one... :) basically once painted you just apply very lighht amount of darker shade over the panel line and other area that you want to give the shadow... (you will need very steady hand and experiment with the pressure to ge the right amount... think I will need to practice again since it's been few years since last time I used the air brushing.)

I managed a pretty good very subtle MAX style shading by painting a thinned down dark black-brown mix over the bare sea green GM plastic and then spraying the whole thing with white primer... add in the rain streaks and armor damage ala Cody's Coop, and it's just subtle enough to notice without looking too dark. I'm really pleased with how my GM is comming out... it's one beat up mobile suit.

some more detailed damage area - and while I was at it put the metal pipe into the backpack thrusters as well as at the foot... :p Does it look convincing?

[EDIT]

minor update on the dagame area and I cut out Zaku's side skirt for better movement plus am still debating whether I should cut off Gundam's waste parts into two pieces...

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/2889/p10507748ep.jpg

Gundam's shoulder damage is now more in line with the techincal drawing... think of the outer skin of shoulder socket module blown away with the inner pipes exposed... they are basically four rods connected to make square box shape module...

[EDIT]

still working on the endo/exoskeleton parts on both Gundam and Zaku...

I'm thinking Im spending way more time on damage area but then it'll be the feature of the diorama so there... :x

Hi all,

I just finished my first MG kit... a GM. Now that I've got a little experience, I've got a question before starting my next one... how do you guys mask all the joints when painting? Not the detail bits of the joints like on the knees and elbows, but the actual moving surfaces of the joints like ball and socket... I had to pin the ball for both thumb joints bc/ they got all gummed up and started to break... they can still move but I had to pin the ball to the thumb to add some extra support...

And yes, I will get up pictures tommorow in between working on my report....

some minor update on Gundam - I cut off waste for better pose and in the process of more substantioanl damage on its right chest armour panel...

I will probably colour Gundam in different colour and marking as RX-78-1 or something in case anyone got the wrong idea... this Gundam is rebuilt prototype that was destroyed at Zaku's raid at the Side 7 and sent to earth for evaluation - and as the fate has it the poor pilot bumped into one of seasoned Zion's Zaku ace pilot...

still the superiority of the MS itself allowed the EFF pilot to overcome the cunning Zaku pilot sustaining severe damage - he/she will surely get his/her ass fired for this.. he he

Hi all,

Here's pictures of my first MG model kit, a trusty old GM. I really beat the snot out of this kit as I wanted it to look as tho it had seen alot of action and was in the middle of a big firefight, and had been on the ground like inside a colony or on Earth.... This is about how all of my kits are gonna look.... I intend to get a whole big wad of different OYW models and set them up in a big fight scene, and then get a few of the neato space suits like from Stardust Memories, which I'll do differently.

Comments are welcom, I'm looking for feedback here.

hmm... not bad :D

you could give it the washed out weathering... atm it looks like someone put some dirty hand on the kit leaving those marks... :p

and to be critical the damage mod is bit off imho... :D (You can tell from my in-progress diorama heh)

You may want to reconstruct the left shoulder module from scratch if you are up for it... (or nick the shoulder parts from OYW version Gundam - I wish I based my Gundam on OYW Gundam as it would've saved me some work...)

however not a bad job!!!

Posted

That shot with the left shoulder armor off was just so I could put the armor bit with the other removed panels and stuff... it's not actually supposed to be blown off, just not there for the photo ;)

As for some more really subtle weathering, i'm still debating... I haven't got an airbrush so there goes the best way to do it... I've been trying to decide if i wnt to slap one super light and subtle tan drybrush over the whole thing.... whcih amrsk look like leftovers from a greasy-handed kid?

Posted

the face really looks like that... :p

you could after giving the coat apply athin'd down black and use cotton bud to wipe out in streak giving the weathered look - it's bit hard to explain but you know those on military tank with those streak marks and weathering as if it's been out & thru numerous rain and what not... ?

Teh Akatsuki

Hey zeo-mare, are the DRAGOONS detachable? And could they be posed the same way as that strike freedom's DRAGOONS taht I saw here in MW a few months back? ;)

BTW, no flight pack included? only the DRAGOON pack?

Posted

hi the dragoons i am pretty certain are detachable and i think they can be posed launching from the backpack like the others. i do not mind that it is not coming with the flight pack, i like this pack better.

I wonder if you can connect the beam sabre to the Hyakurai beam rifle on the Akatsuki like a bayonet? That's what it is capable of in the lineart.

orb-01-type72d5.jpg

if you look at the pictures i posted a few pages back it looks like the gun can accept the beam saber so i think that feature will be in the kit.

Anyone know of a good place to look for a PG GP-01FB?  I guess I can look on eBay but it's gotta be stateside.

356450[/snapback]

The cheapest place I have seen was on Ebay. There was a military guy that was station in Japan and he was posting the PG GP-01FB for sale at around $200 shipped.

i don't see it list in his auctions anymore but you can always contact him and ask if he can get on for you. His ebay aka is scheradon

That bad... crap....

One more thing, is there a kit of the big green ass-kicking mobile armor that Gato pilots in the end of Stardust Memories 0083?

:o OMG those kits are awesome.... I've gotta get both, cuz they're two rediculously cool designs. And if nothing else, the little 1/550 scale Zaku II and Gundam are soooooooo cute! Thanks for the headsup on these, now I know what I've gotta get next. Now if only we could get an MG Dendrobium... we've already got the GB-03 Gundam, and I think I read that it has potetianl docking points, so it's obviously the next step....
