Robonimal Panda-Z: The Robonimation ( パンダーゼット )

Bee Media/Dynamic Planning/MegaHouse/Kids Station/Bandai Visual, 2004

Bandai Entertainment, 2005

Directed by Mamoru Kanbe (Elfen Lied)

Created by Shuichi Oshida

Running Time: 5 minutes per episode.

Rated 14-Up for some violence and mature situations.

Let's Try to Find Our Future.

A parody of the Mazinger Z series, Panda-Z chronicles the misadventures of young panda Pan Taron and his giant robot Panda-Z, as they battle Skull Panda and his evil Warunimal forces.

We start running on the field. Check ignition! And power on!

Story: N/A

Well, there is no story. Panda-Z, which runs at five minutes per episode, just has robots throwing hammers and missiles at each other, which is pretty hilarious if you follow giant robot anime.

Animation: B+

It's normal not to expect quality from a parody title. Panda-Z, on the other hand, is very well-animated with some outstanding 3D effects on the opening sequence. Sure as hell beats SD Gundam Force.

Soundtrack: A-

Hironobu Kageyama and JAM Project supply a headbanging opening theme and just one hard rock BGM track per episode.

Cast

NONE. This is a silent anime.

DVD Extras: A- (Robonimal Edition)

For $15.99 at Best Buy, you get five episodes on one disc plus a collectible Panda-Z Posing Mini Figure. Included in the DVD are the clean opening sequence and a full 3D animated short not seen on TV.

The Bottom Line

Mazinger fans will love this short parody. Other anime fans should check this out as well.

Cowgaigar was the coolest ^_^

Cowgaigar is the cow robot from Panda Z. I don't know if it's an official name or just something us fans decided to name him.

so is this where MTV got it's intro and outro to it's afternoon shows? Looks exactly like it except it has the pink bunny driving that panda.

Hahahaha. Thanks for the links A7.

Nick if you look at the Panda Z Jpeg in the First post of this thread the Cow Robot is in the upper left in yellow

That's not the robot. That's just the guy that controls Super Moo Jumbo.

So far, 15 episodes have been fansubbed. The funny thing is that Panda-Z itself only appears on four of those episodes. Everything else is just a rehash of an episode. Regardless of which, the series is still funny as hell.

Good news: Bandai Entertainment announced that they have licensed Panda-Z for the U.S. market.

Bad news: Don't know how many episodes they'll put on each disc.

THREE EPSIODSE PER DISK! TWENTY BUCKS FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES!

At least that beats ADV's two episodes per Gantz DVD.

Episode-wise, but not length. Gantz has full length episodes. Either way, someone at both companies needs to be shot for this sort of decision.

Ah. You should put a smiley up when you do that, otherwise it's really hard to tell just from text.

Well, it was absurd enough that I thought it was obvious.

I forget how bad the industry is sometimes.

Well, JB0 was almost right on the money when it came to how many episodes per disc. Bandai Entertainment's release has 5 episodes per volume.

And why is it rated 14-Up?

Because cute cuddly bears with wings and death rays are scary to everyone 13 and under!!
