Hurin
This may seem like it belongs in the modeling forum, but I'm interested in doing it for the 1/48 toy, so here goes. I was watching SDF Macross the other day, and was on episode "Drop Outs" where Hikaru is kicking mucho Regult ass on the streets of Macross city. I noticed that the gunpod strap was grey or "canvas" looking rather than black. And I thought it looked cool. If I'm not mistaken, Roy's gunpod strap is made of a tan/grey canvas when he puts the gunpod on his shoulder after coming down to help Hikaru in the VF-1D early in the show. So, question, what would you make a custom gunpod strap out of to give it this "canvas-like" look? I can't think of any actual canvas whose weave would look right when cut so small. Any ideas? Blaine23
You could use a cloth-based gun strap from one of the billions of 12" soldier doll M-16's, etc... But I'm not a big fan of the idea of a giant gunstrap for a mech.. much less one made of anything other than some sort of metal link or cabling. Actually Kevlar would make a good gunstrap. It's stronger and lighter than steel. Some of the 1/6 scale WWII guns have khaki colered canvas-like straps. There are tons of places on the web to buy loose 1/6 parts.
do not disturb
cool idea but the gun strap + gunpod sucks. you have to take the strap off in fighter mode everytime, so whats the point? well unless you got a bunch of extra gunpods? i basically have one gunpod with a strap that i rotate depending on who i'm displaying in battroid and/or grewalk modes. all the others have no straps...its just easier that way. your best bet is to walk into a fabric store or some kind of crafts store and check out the samples. i'm sure they'll be something in there you can use. wolfx
Or to make the ultimate custom gunpod, make something like in the series. The strap must be pulled out manually by the battroid, and then retracts back into the gunpod in fighter mode. Use some kinda spring drum and locking mechanism.
