Druna Skass Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 What was so bad about Whiskey Corridor? I was able to rack up so much money in that level... Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 (edited) Wha? That's one of my fave missions. It's like D-Day with jets. Hard as h*ll the first time, but once you beat it, I love to go through and try just everything. A-10, F-117, F-22, F-14, F-18, Tornado, etc. Also, one of the best "money-makers" in the whole game due to sheer number of targets. (It costs a lot to get the X-2 in every color). My Whiskey Corridor "standard route" (I haven't played in months, but still know it): Head up-right from the start, taking out radars on the way. Clear out the "right" of the 3 main areas. Head all the way to the left, taking out "targets of opportunity" along the way. Take out all the left-side stuff you can (especially missile batteries/radars along the coast/islands), then finish up in the center when they really start asking for help, and take out the A-10's. Any spare time, continue attacking the left section. Oh yeah---FAE's and Clusterbombs rock, it's such a target-rich environment. I usually just unload them all early to clear out the right side as fast as possible, then run back to reload, then continue. Edited September 28, 2004 by David Hingtgen Quote
Mechamaniac Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 (edited) WHISKEY CORRIDOR SUCKS!! God i hope a similar stage is NOT in ace combat 5!! For me it was TANGO LINE. Mission pissed me off to no end. The only amusing part was the one time I flew THROUGH a Harrier that was descending into a hole in the ground. However, once I got past it, the rest of the game was pretty much a cake walk. Still PISSED however, that you paste Yellow 13 without ever realizing it. Here I was waiting for this one on one climactic dogfight from hell, only to find that I had already wasted him without realizing it. Edited September 28, 2004 by Mechamaniac Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Tango Line for me either does or doesn't "work". I either get all the Harriers et in like 30 secs, or spend 5 mins chasing them around... There's something "glitchy" in the holes/shapes that they sit in that CBU and FAE's seem to "miss" even with direct hits, and you can't missile them until flying, etc. The "obvious" attack methods don't seem to work very often--thus you either easily get them all quickly, or you have to engage them in flight one by one. Sometimes 1 FAE in the middle will get a whole group, other times 4 of them in a row won't damage any, despite just flooding the area in flames... PS---I was well aware it was Yellow 13 when I fought him. IIRC it's pretty clear from a cutscene he's going up to fight Mobius 1 just before that mission, and at the end there's one extra-tough Yellow Super Flanker... Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 I just dont kljke missions where its long and dragging for a real eral long time. Which i think tango and whiskey were like. My type of mission, easily SHATTERED SKIES!!! and that one mission ion AC2 where you attack the carrier fleet and shoot down a super hornet ZOE. I think AC4 was real short. IT was awesome while it lasted and still fun now. on ACE mode lol~~!! BTW its hard to get an S on whiskey corridor and BTW how do you get teh white abnd black X-02? Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 I don't know, and most people disagree on what exactly opens what. I got all S and shot down all aces on a single play-through on ACE mode. Figured that'd unlock everything, and it did. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 (edited) Namco's updated their site a lot lately: http://www.namco-ch.net/acecombat5/ And specifically: (drool) http://www.namco-ch.net/acecombat5/fighters/fighters_03.php PS--Arcade mode seems to be a really big "extra" that is basically AC4 rendered with AC5's engine. I only see 3 Flankers--27, 35, and 37. Whew. Though the list can't be comprehensive, as I don't see the F-15 listed and we'll almost certainly get both the regular and Strike versions. And I would like an Su-33 for some carrier missions. Good site for Flanker variants: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/flanke...7_variants.html The YF-23 is SUCH a bad-ass-looking plane... Knight26 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Man that game looks so beautiful, too abd they won't release it to the PC. Quote
Mechamaniac Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 PS---I was well aware it was Yellow 13 when I fought him. IIRC it's pretty clear from a cutscene he's going up to fight Mobius 1 just before that mission, and at the end there's one extra-tough Yellow Super Flanker... That was partially me getting suckered in by the storyline... IMHO, AC4 has a very Anime story line, and the character art didn't help either. So, after Siege of Farbanti, I knew that I had splashed all the Yellows, and none of them were any real problem, so I was surprised to see the little movie with the narrator and the bartender's daugher burying Yellow 4's scarf etc. I honestly thought that when I got to Megalith, at the end, Yellow 13 would come tear assing into the skies, and I would have to fight him to end the game. I really thought it was a Gamlin sort of thing at the end of Mac 7. I guess I should have taken the fact that after Siege of Farbanti I had not only the SU-37, but the SU-37A as options as a hint that I had killed some very high ranking Yellows. I also figured that either way, once I had to face Yellow 13, there would have been some audio clips from him, talking smack to me since at that point in the game, it's pretty obvious that Mobius 1 is becoming a legend, and obviously, Yellow 13 is the man on the Erusian side. Ah well, I have Siege of Farbanti saved, so I can go back and look for him this time. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 i didnt like how in megalith EVERYONE was a freaking yellow and mobius. It cheapened the notion that yellow was only 5 people and now all of a sudden the whole air force. what the hell. I wonder who will be the lead enemy aces in AC5. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 I really want some tanker and AWACS escort missions. Or even better--a defend the carrier mission (F-14 mission, hint hint). Every Navy pilot knows defending the carrier is the most important thing---if the carrier goes, the entire wing has nowhere to land. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 I agree!! The mission in AC2 where it plays the song "fire youngman" and you take on the enemy air an sea fleet....oh man perfect!! ENds with a carrier landing too~~~ !!! Closest thing to fleet defnwse that I have seen~~~ BTW did anyone view the ign videos? People say on teh carrier you start on the elevator instead of right at the cat. Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 I was hopeing for some kind of dialogue with from Yellow 13, not nessesarily him talking poo to you, but more like something between two duelists. And after you nail him have him saying something congratualtory and how you were a wothy opponent. I also wanted to see a little cut scene with you and 13 after you take out his squad. There's also another glitch with the Tango line level, when they're in the ground the Harriers only take one missile to kill, but once they get off the ground they become your regular 2. One of the things I'm hoping for in 5 is that none of the levels are Ace Combat 2 re-makes. Quote
hellohikaru Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 whos usin that? is that the cancelled AAAM? Yeah..it never entered service but neither did the F-23 Black Widow. I mean the F-16XL in the game is still a bombtruck. P.S Can you type more precisely...its hard to read your lines at times Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 sorry dude. Anyhoo acecombat.jp has NEW pics!!! Operation Katina. Check out world news, the newest issue says "mobius 1, again". So basically arcade mode is souped up AC4 missions in Euresea with AC5 engine. with 16+ missions that branch, this is almost like having an AC4.5 game included!!! Beats crap out of trial missions!! BTW F-14 wingsweep is WAY better in AC5 than it is by 4!! the wings in 5 are spread bty defualt in low speed!! ANd some of us wonder about the absence of the HUD in a lot of the pics....perhaps since those could very well be all replay screens!!! IF so then the replays are WAY better than last time! Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 (edited) Disarm Free Erusea... Operation Katina sounds like it takes place shortly after the end of the war. Since this war takes place on a diffrent continent, I wonder if the Usea war was raging at around the same time. It'll be nice hearing refernces to AC4, like have one of your wingmen say something like "Ha with moves like that you could take Mobius 1". Hey, isn't Kei Nagase on of the Ridge Racer girls? Valkyrie23 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Just to let you all know that there was a special bundle announced with a LE special controller: Link to Gamespot.com Namco, Hori announce limited-edition offer that includes controller, jacket patch, and game; EB and GameStop sole retailers. Namco Hometek announced today that it has partnered with high-end gaming peripheral manufacturer Hori to offer a limited-edition bundle for its upcoming title, Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War. Retailing for $129.99, the set will include the game, a limited edition Ace Combat-branded Flightstick 2 controller designed by Hori, and a jacket patch emblazoned with the logo of the game's Wardog Squadron. The bundle will release along with the game on October 25. The original Flightstick controller was designed specifically for 2001's Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies, but was only released in Japan. This is the first time that Namco and Hori will partner for a stateside release. Only 20,000 limited edition sets will be produced; the bundle will be sold exclusively at Electronics Boutique and GameStop locations. Customers who preorder either the bundle or the standalone game will also receive a special "making of" DVD video and a separate set of jacket patches. The game alone will retail for $49.99. Quote
Mechamaniac Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Hmmm, any pics of the controller anywhere? Don't know how that would work if it's a joystick style. Most of us play our console games on our TV's, and unless you have something to put the joystick on other than the floor, it could be pretty ungainly. Quote

mikeszekely Posted September 29, 2004 Author Posted September 29, 2004 Hey, isn't Kei Nagase on of the Ridge Racer girls? Close. It's Reiko Nagase, and she was the short-haired cutie in R4. Quote
mikeszekely Posted September 29, 2004 Author Posted September 29, 2004 i think its just extra stuff. more like Ac4 with AC5 engine. I mean its not like trial mission from AC4. this one is actualy 16 missions of challenges from refuels and landings to intercepts and such with unlockable planes and others. ALso its 16 missions+ and BRANCHING!! so essentially almost AC4 combined into Ac5!!!!BTW story mode has 30+ missions. Wait a minute. You mean there's one "Story" mode where we follow the story of Blaze and his wingmates in the Wardog Squadron, and then there's another mode where we basically get to play a souped up AC4? Killer. Smiley424 Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 Finnaly we get to see the whole world map of where Ace Combat 2-5 take place (2-4 were on the same contintent). I've only played AC4 and I always though the "world" was a bit small in that game (being only like one major continent and surrounding islands). Never really thought too much about it, but now seeing the entire world, pretty cool. Since AC5 occurs in the same world, I willing to guess the plot involves two member nations of ISAF fighting each other after the conclusion of the ISAF-Erusean War is AC4. A scenario that might have occurred in real history after WW2 between the US and Soviet Union. Quote
mikeszekely Posted September 29, 2004 Author Posted September 29, 2004 I think AC4 was real short. IT was awesome while it lasted and still fun now. on ACE mode lol~~!! BTW its hard to get an S on whiskey corridor Most of the earlier PS2 games were short... they wanted to hurry up and get stuff out for it, and they were focused on making the games look pretty. What you wound up with were games like ZOE, AC4, Onimusha, and the like... games that looked nice, were fun, but rather short. Ace Combat 5 is forutnately looking to be one of the biggest in the series, with a roster of planes that's rivaled only by Airforce Delta Strike (but once you weed out the early 50's fighters, and the Chinese/Israeli/Taiwanese fighters that no one's heard of, AC5 could actually have the better roster anyway. It absolutely kicks ass that the YF-23's going to be in it. Quote

That's possible, but OSEA and Yuketobania weren't part of ISAF. Though until they give us a timeline, I'm guessing the war 15 years ago they mention might be the USEA war. They might have had some defensive alliance in case the ISAF lost and Erusea decided to invade someone else. Edited September 29, 2004 by Druna Skass Quote

YES Hell some of the landscapes and levels from 4 seem to be IN AC5 arcade mode and REDONE with more polygonal modeling on the ground for structures!! Now another thing is this. ARcade mode=16 levels so far...BRANCHING! (ISAF/Mobius 1) Story mode=30 missions+ (Wardog/Blaze) I stil think AFDS has the best roster. Some of them planes need GUNS though!! Quote

Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I don believe it does. They say the "war 15 years ago" refers to ace combat 2. THe arcade mode supposedly has unlockable planes and so far I have seen only the F-22. They say 2 player mode has it's OWN maps too! Quote
