Smiley424 Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Nice, that sounds pretty cool, especially the wingman feature and the improved AI. Its good to see countermeasures in the game as well. AMRAAMs should have a min. range, its a BVR weapon, not dogfighting. Question, how's the plane damage, same as AC4 with a limit of how many hits you can take? Does damage affect the planes handling or anything like that? I hope to see cooler ground attack missions, some crazy nap of earth flying especially. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 (edited) Checking around, it seems this is the E3 demo basically, and that it is little more than a playable beta, many features lacking. Anyways---damage seems like every other game, you're fine up until 100% damage. Other things I forgot: Accurate gun ammo amounts. No "I'll just shoot for 5 mins until I hit him" here! Gun takes a moment to "spin up" to full speed, you can hear it. Less than 2 months until the "real" version comes out, can't wait to see all the changes/additions. Kin Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Hey I'm quite impressed! There aren't alot of flightsims around where the sky and horizons are so well articulated! Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Just picked up the demo today, all I can say is... DAMN... Quote
hellohikaru Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 Looks like Namco once again is going to interprete the Su-37 as the dogfight optimised Super Flanker armed with short range follow-you missiles and the Su-35 as the Adder armed medium range missile platform, just as they did in AC4. Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 lil bro got it for me this weekend and this is my observations. @low speeds, the tomcat FINALLY has wings spread!!! High speed =sweep back. See in AC4 this is not so. @300kt in AC4 the wings would be swept back already and not forward until L1 is pressed. in Ac5 this is not so and can be spread forward up until the speed gets real real high. Which to me is more realistic as well as visually appealing. now you KNOW when the cat is gonna go fqast or not. FLight modeling is definitely better. IN AC4 the tomcat does not feel big and sluggish @300 kt. IN AC5 it DOES. And the superbug is nuimble as a bi*** too bad it doesnt bleed speed a lot lke in reality. Wingmen are always faster than you and always like to steal your kills. BAstards. I tried shooting them down since they kept stealing my kills and jumping in front of me. ugh. Hopefully in the final release you can shoot them down to up the realism. Overall fun but I cant help but think since its a beta, its just a overall souped up AC4. I am sure the final will be much much better becauise as said by many others before, it really feels unfinished. I know itll be awesome though and the demo is pretty swell. -gun kills are harder to achieve and the spool is cool. Not as hard as AFDS but harder than AC4. -the AI...holy crap they actualyl try to RUN away and outmanuever you? YES!!!!!! FINALLY!!!! -the SARH guidance system is well liked. Thank god they implemented this small yet crucial touch. overall it shall rule. Quote
mikeszekely Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 (edited) Dave, I was one of the first people to get that magazine. I tried to start a new topic, but the mods deleted it on the grounds that a demo is not worth of having it's own topic (and yet there's a three page topic on the Battlefront demo ). One thing I've noticed about the demo is that you can still kill enemy fighters by flying real slow toward them while they fly straight at you, and fire off two missiles just as soon as they're in range. IMHO, Ace Combat 5 feels a lot like AC4 in terms of HUD, control, graphics, and sound, but AC5 seems much more intense. It used to be you'd have to shoot down a handful of transports guarded by a handful of fighters, but (in the demo at least) it seemed like there was just a few more transports, but a buttload more enemy fighters who are about twice as aggressive as the enemies in AC4. Less than a month away now... Oh, FYI, in our sytem at Gamestop, we have a listing for a $99.99 version of Ace Combat 5 that includes a flight stick. Wonder what that's all about...? Well, I'm too poor with all the other games coming out, and I'm pretty comfy with the PS2's controller, so I'm passing on it... but if anyone else knows anything or plans on getting the lfight stick, tell us about it. Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 i thought it was 130$? Its the hori flight stick pack. Its got a joystick and throttle. Semirealistic look, looks a lot more realistic than the Saitek X36 flightstick on Pc's but not as real as the F-15E old school pc stick. IF the joystick is compatible with other sim games on ps2 then I might bite but thats still a lot for me especially considering the jet games on ps2 do not vary n tbhe 10s its more of a handful. Gun kills are harder to get in AC5 then they were in 4 but not as hard as AFDS. and they actually DOGFIGHT and evade!! Quote

I'll double check that price tonight for you, but for me personally, it doesn't matter how cool it is, there's just no way I can afford it. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 heh dude same here. Now if PS2 had a LOT more GOOD flight games I might budge but as it sounds, not too sure and plus it might not be compatible 2with all of them. I remember hearing AFDS flightstick was not compatible with some games. Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I'd love to see a flight stick based on the DYRL VF-1 stick and throttle. Quote
Coota0 Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 DOn't know if anyone cares, but check this out: ACE COMBAT Quote
Coota0 Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 I was at IGN looking at the screen shots and came across this does this mean we get to tank in AC5? The carrier shots look much more realistic, from an operational view. Quote
Smiley424 Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Yeah, I think so. I read in the latest EGM that there will be in-flight refueling and take-offs and landings will be more difficult in this game compared to AC4. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Hmmn. If there's to be refuelling, then we'll either need the latest upgraded KC-10's, or KC-10's and KC-135's, to be able to service both types of refueling equipment. (Probe 'n drogue, or USAF-receptacle) I thought the JSF might have been the point at which the forces all went to the same system (best opportunity) but they didn't---USN and USMC will still be probe, USAF will be receptacle. Quote
Coota0 Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Looks like KC-10s to me Pic01 Pic02 Does this look like F-15s on a hanger deck to anyone else? Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 I wonder if they're still going to have the F-15ACTIVE I haven't seen any screens of them... I guess would be a reasonalbe assumption to say they're still in since 2, 3, and 4 had them. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Guess we're getting upgraded KC-10's! Anyways--is it just me, or do the KC-10's have like 1/8 the polys that the "main" planes do? F-15's---looks like a generic big hangar. Only the doors are hangar-deck-ish. (And that's an unbelievably nice and clean and spacious hangar deck if its supposed to be one) Quote
Smiley424 Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 Yeah, I think you're right David. The tankers definately look like they have less polys than the fighters. I hope that gets beefed up some in the final version. F-16XL Nice, I like that they included the "cranked-arrow" F-16. Mig-31? I'm pretty sure this is a Mig-31 because it makes more sense to include the Foxhound than the Mig-25 Foxbat; can someone verify? YF-23s escorting ? bomber Of all the images, this one intrigued me the most. YF-23s escorting that crazy looking stealth bomber. I haven't looked at any images from AC5 until now, the game looks great. The variety of planes is even better than AC4. I hope to see some wild and awesome paint schemes. I wonder if when you fly in 2 seat fighters (like the Tomcat) there will be chatter from your RIO. That would be a nice touch as long as what the RIO says is relevant and doesn't get too repetative. After seeing those pics from the game, I'm even more psyched about this game . Quote
Coota0 Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 I think it's a MiG-31 too. Landings are going to be harder, so does that mean the Carrier landings are going to be fairly realistic? If you takeoff at the beginning of each mission and land at the end of each, will the missions be longer getting to and from the target, is that what the tanking is for? Do you choose at the beginnig if you're going to be Navy or Air Force? Seems like from the screen shots that you either spend a lot of time on a carreir or you choose. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 (edited) That would be fairly cool/realistic, being limited to a single service, then transitioning to new planes as they become available. F-4>F-15>F-22 etc. No switching between Harrier, A-10, F-16, and F-14 every day... (Though that does limit the missions you could fly) I wonder how far "back" they'll go---they keep setting the series further in the future, but I still want my F-8 for gunfights... Edited September 26, 2004 by David Hingtgen Quote
Coota0 Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 Goofy Question: We're gonna be able to tank (really cool) I know how it works with U.S. Aircraft and most of our allies, but what about the Russians how do their aircraft tank? Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 26, 2004 Posted September 26, 2004 drogues. Flankers and migs tank with drogues. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Basic rule is that everything everywhere uses probe and drogue, except the USAF. And of course designed-for-USAF planes, like Japanese and Saudi F-15's. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Arcade mode has 16+ seperate missions. Better than trial mission on Ac4. Unlockable planes in this mode as well as branching missions in this mode alone. Story mode has wardog or whatever the hel the country is. Arcade mode however, has ISAF & MOBIUS 1 CALL SIGN!! Arcade mode is whereever Ac4 took place and called "operation katina" F-14A bette have phoenixes/ It would be stupid to arm it just with sparrows. For special weapon. Piossed no Super tomcat 21/ Quote
David Hingtgen Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 Well, seeing as how they like to "imagine" planes into service, maybe they'll give the F-14D AMRAAM's like it was supposed to have. I mean, if they make the YF-23 fully operational, they could at least give the Tomcat AMRAAM's. Or just go into the future a bit, and put ASRAAM's on everything, and Meteors too. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 oh i was referring to the demo. The F-14A in demo has sparrow as special weapon. it should have phoenixs too. Quote

Or are you just an ISAF pilot. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 story=wardog arcade=ISAF. Someone said mobius 1 is in arcade mode aka operation katina. So this leads me to believe in arcade mode you are mobius 1. BTW callsign for story mode is blaze , and they speak as if you are a young newbie. In AC4 it just seemed like lower rank. Quote
Druna Skass Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 BTW callsign for story mode is blaze , and they speak as if you are a young newbie. In AC4 it just seemed like lower rank. Yeah, the way your wingmates talk to you made me think of the way the 08th Team first treated Shiro. Is there an actual plot to the arcade mode, or is just a kind of extra with stuff that didn't make it into the final AC4 version? Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 i think its just extra stuff. more like Ac4 with AC5 engine. I mean its not like trial mission from AC4. this one is actualy 16 missions of challenges from refuels and landings to intercepts and such with unlockable planes and others. ALso its 16 missions+ and BRANCHING!! so essentially almost AC4 combined into Ac5!!!! BTW story mode has 30+ missions. Quote
hellohikaru Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 I think it's a MiG-31 too. It is a MiG-31. You can tell by its tandem main landing gear. I wished they give the planes more realistic looking payloads though. I mean if its set in the future why not give the F-14s ACIMDs instead. I also hope they think out of the box and give the F-16XL guided weapons instead of just pure iron bombs. Picture ACIMD AIM-152. Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 whos usin that? is that the cancelled AAAM? Quote
Mechamaniac Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Whoo, finally got past that stinking ground mission that made me lose interest in AC4, and beat the game within two days. NOW, I'm ready for AC5 Quote
Shin Densetsu Kai 7.0 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 WHISKEY CORRIDOR SUCKS!! God i hope a similar stage is NOT in ace combat 5!! Quote
