Yohsho Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Wow lot of ppl don't like the PG Eva. Have any of you just opened a toy and had your stomach just twist and just wonder why you ever bought it in the first place. My Hated: PG Wing: He can't stand up right and I barely got him to stand straight. MacFalane "Figures": I picked up the MGS line and some of them are really cool and others are just little statues. Rockman X Toys: That little guy wasn't worth my money. Quote
Graham Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 After seeing this thread, I've been thinking all morning about which toys I've found disappointing. The problem is so far I can't think of any toys that have really disappointed me. The Banprestos were crap, but according to the rules of this thread they don't count and I never really had high expectations for them anyway. I guess the problem is that I do a lot of research before I buy a toy, so I generally know what I'm buying and also I really only collect Macross toys and Gundam Sentinel FIX toys. That's it two toy line only. I'll probably also buy the MPC Alpha/Legioss when they come out, unless they turn out to be total peices of junk. As a kid, I collected Star Wars figures, but it's been what 20 years since I last bought one. I guess I'm going to have to vote for the Yamato 1/72 scale YF-21 FAST Pack version as the most disappointing toy. Horrible color, poorly sculpted gunpods and FAST packs and the damn thing never wouldn't lock together properly in fighter mode. Graham Quote

Commander McBride Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 That's interesting, I rather like my -21FP. The color really dosen't bother me, and it looks good enough in any mode. Now for dissappointments: MSiA GP01 (Second Version / JDM Version) The hands suck. I had to modify them to even fit the weapons in them! Despite a new-style joint system, poseability isn't very good. The legs are good, but the arms aren't. Bad QC. Mine had the most crooked V-fin I've ever seen. Bad weapon design. It can't hold some of his weapons properly at all, due to its arms being too short. Fix G-3 Armor. The thing broke the day I got it. Quote
kanata67 Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 I must say that mcfarlane's products do have the ability to disintigrate when exposed to air... at least some of them. I stopped opening my spawn figs a looong time ago after 3 of the 6 I opened had issues. I think I'm less than 10 lame figs shy of the first 19 series complete now. As miniture statues they rock, as toys no so much. I have aquired numerous loose ones to use for parts for customs and some have impressed me though. Manga spawn kicks butt as did the 12 inch violator. Since I found macross world toys that were most disappointing have been... small ride armor [i have yet to transform it] die-cast alpha fighter [yippie... two lame modes] 3" "macress" vf figures [i got one MIB and it was factory broken LOL] bootleg 1/100 vf's [sooo cheap compared to the taka's] 1/76 taka gbp-1s [i was sooo happy to win a loose one... till I got it ] morphers when I was a kid the most disappointing thing were... Go bots. Every damn holiday the relatives would give me friggin gobots rather than the transformers I asked for . Look... it's a car. Look... now it's a car with a face ... what the hell. Catching lawn darts was more fun Quote

Mechamaniac Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Add another vote for the Yamato Escaflowne. And to top that off... the plastic smells funky too. I wonder if it's toxic? Yeah, I gotta chime in on this too. I was disappointed in the Yamato Escaflowne, after all the hype. It looks good from a distance, but once you get up close, FEH, especially in Guymelef mode, I hate the way the head is just on a hinge, and doesn't sit on top of the shoulders. Which is why, viewed from afar, it looks good, but once you get close, you see that stuff just isnt where it's supposed to be. And the transformation is too hard, I remember Graham said he did the english instructions for Yamato on that, I think he missed a few spots . But, on the flip side, after I opened the box, I was stoned for a half an hour on the overwhelming PVC fumes that gushed out of the box . Other than that, I really have to (but hate to) nominate my DX RX-93 Nu Gundam from CCA. I love that Gundam, and it looks so awesome with the funnels attached, but the toy can't stand up with them on! . Quote
tom64ss Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 -All the Gakken Legioss/Alphas smaller than the 1/35s. -MPCs. I even knew they sucked before buying one, but when I found one cheap and bought it, it was STILL worse than I imagined. They should be renamed MPOSs -Anything with the "Convertors" name attached to it. -Most of the first wave of G1 Decepticons except Soundwave and the tapes. (I never liked the seekers, and Megatron was just stupid as a toy) -Gobots (90% of them) -The first Aliens action figure line (not the McFarlane ones) -'66 Dodge Dart (It's a bitch to find parts for these) -The Kyocera 6035 Smartphone -Rack tuners Quote

jwinges Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 (edited) My Most disappointing toys: 1. MPC vol 1 2. Anything star wars. If got nine boxes of useless sealed crap. 3. 1/75 YF-21 4. 1/76 Taka GBP (I traded it) 5. K&M figures 6. Anything toynami 7. Gundam FIX 13 deep striker. Cool for display but that's about it...very expensive. Edited March 24, 2004 by jwinges Quote

drifand Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Generally, I tend to avoid beautifully sculpted PVC "toys" by Kaiyodo, and most other PVC-material toys as well, including Gundam MSiAs and FIX. 1. Kaiyodo VIRTUAL-ON VR-Temjin - Crippled after just 2 weeks by spontaneously snapping 4 'mono-shaft joints', including the thickest one in the torso. Still pissed over this. 2. DX Nu-Gundam - stupidest neck-joint design EVAH. Can't stand properly with its funnels on. 3. Bandai's 'Soul of Popynica' Yamato. Too model kit-like, with hard-to-attach spindly PVC antennae and fins that tend to warp and drop off. No HEFT. Cheap China-made electronic lights and sound SHORTED out after 1 week. Souless Turd. You want Soul, go check out Aoshima's Arcadia! 4. Omega Boost & Beta Boost figures by Blue Box Toys. Even Kawamori has bad days. Horribly produced toys from below average gaming mech designs. The gun accessory looked cooler than the 'bots. 5. Kotobukiya's FRONT MISSION 3 "I.N. Corps Specific Wanzer" - Four legs good? Nope. Hardly poseable and dead boring. Worst one in an otherwise superb toy line-up. Quote

I'd blow mine up if I could and send what's left to Toycom/Yamato. But ya see my wife is a big Escaflowne fan and I'd be sleeping on the couch and celibate lol. What a horrible toy/display piece. Yamato should have experimented with removable/exchangable parts . The only good thing was the high I got off the fumes. Reminded me of the days of smokin up Edited March 24, 2004 by dejr8bud Quote

Is the Gungrave figure from Kaiyodo? That figure is awesome. Kaiyodo did a Spike Spigel figure...what a POS. It would slightly lean to the right. One day it fell over just leaving the feet on the base lol And the Vampire Hunter D action figure from Koto is good. The 12 inch doll sucks ass though. I was never a fan of their Amored Core figures. motley Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 my most dissapointing toy ever? got to go with the Kahen Senshi Zeta figure from a couple years ago. its part of the diecast Kado Senshi line and it contains ZERO dicast, and its cheap plastic too. yeah it transforms, but at the cost of a stable MS mode, and it looks like ass, the sculpt is horrible, not retro, not modern, the thing has no curves, just hard angular lines. second vote goes to the GFF G-3 G-Armor set. mine didn't break, but the gundam wouldn't stay stuck together, the upper torso is two different parts, and the top half wouldn't stay attached. i eventually just superglued the two parts together. Tiny Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Anything Kaiyodo They look nice and all but once you get them out the package, they basically fall apart. Not even worth a dollar!!! Flash lio convoy, just everything about it Quote
pfunk Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Hate to say it and I dont want to get everyone worked up, but the Yammie Q-rau, everything is loose out of the box, gathering my airbrush skills and im taking it apart and making a green TV version and fixxing the goofy limitated joints Banprestoes,,,well, they serve a purpose Oh yeah, i think I was raised by the same parents Katana67, Go-Bots blah, I said TRANSFORMERS! My biggest disapointment ever is my GMC truck $50,000 turd, going used Furd anyway, had to get that out Quote
jwinges Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 I gotta say the my 2001 Harley sportster kinda sucked. very fun to ride but the engine never ran properly and the battery charging system totally sucked from the day I bought it. I was bringing it in for service about twice a month and the dealer couldn't figure it out. We decided one night we'd sell it....the next morning we woke to find it stolen. They guy who stole that crappy running bike now sits in prison and I got all my money back for the bike. Worked out great for me. Quote

mpchi Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Got a few dud here. Kubricks(early ones) - my cool looking Votoms set plays like crap. The PVC armors were so flimsy and thin that it bends so much and doesn't even stay on the body. It got really cool guns, so do my other S.W.A.T. guys, but guess what? None of them can hold their weapon, period. I am not even talking about not holding it securely. I really don't get Medicom designing the weapons that can't be hold by the figures...don't know if they finally learn from this mistake after years as I am not wasting any more money on these. HCM Z Gundam - Thought it was really cool when saw it about a decade ago when start collecting Jap. toys. Cost me like $50+(which was quite a bit for me back then). Turned out its a blocky brick, and the transformation is not so cool. Without as much knowledge about toy collectingback then, I still couldn't find much redeemable qualities in it. If I remember correctly, it has been sitting in the box in my room for at least a decade now without seeing the light even once after I put it away. MSIA Gundam ver.1 - Weird looking head, skinny sculpt, arms & legs falling all over the place. If it wasn't the only available Gundam MSIA back then, I wouldn't have got it. Now I just use it as back-up scrap parts for toy mod. Seiya Cloth Myth series - I love these figures! But they have so many flaws in the execution that it really bugs me. The concept of these are cool. A new generation of Saint Seiya figures to go with the revival of the series, with a much more anime accurate sculpt & have diecast removeable armor/cloth like the old originals. But the first 3 release(Seiya, Shiryu, and Hyoga) all plagued with some or all of these wobbly armor, loose metal hinges, loose pegs, loose ankles, scratched paint, very rough diecast finish, big heads, not so anime accurate facial features, stupid designs that hurts articulations, belt buckle falling off, hands too hard to swap...the list goes on. Its not until the 4th release Shun that I no longer need to pull out my super glue & tiny screw drivers to attempt to fix something. As if Bandai is totally using all the early releases as a test beds, rather than doing that before hand to ensure customers getting quality products. But with all this said and the disappointment they came with, I still love these figures. Quote

Ya I have that one. Its alright. The LOTR action figures are decent overall. Most of them you can find dirt cheap. The 12 inch dolls/figures are kinda ugly though. The Ring Wraith is the best. The LOTR mini figures are way over priced. And speaking of GMC. My parents have a POS '99 Suburban. Blown head gasket and burned out fuel pump in less than 5 years. My(original owner) '92 Yukon 2 door with 150,000 miles on it runs great. But I think my next truck will be a Ford F-150 or 250. Quote

W were trying to get his POS Cavalier fixed in my drieway (very loose/damaged electrical contact point) and left the car running for a second while he called his mom since we were afraid that once it stopped it would never start again without serious repair work. In the literally one minute we were inside someone jumped in the car, and took off with it. the cops found the car less than 5 miles away, broke down and non-operational Quote
