GRAND CANNON Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 It appears that there is a recent DVD addition to the Gundam library in the form of GUNDAM SIDE STORY! Does anyone here have any info on this DVD? Is it an OVA series or stand-alone movie? I'm aware that this is the place where Gundam Units 04 and 05 are from , so I'm very intrigued. Any help is good help....... Quote
yellowlightman Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 Do you have a link to the DVD? There's been a ton of Gundam side story's so your description is a little vague. Quote
GRAND CANNON Posted March 22, 2004 Author Posted March 22, 2004 (edited) Sure.....here's a pic and the ANIMEniacs link. Possibly an animated version of the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Space, To the End of A Flash manga? Edited March 22, 2004 by GRAND CANNON Quote
wakobi Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 (edited) I believe that this DVD is basically a compliation of all of the cut scenes and cinematics taken from the recently released Gundam game, Encounters In Space. This then by association, makes it a complete rip off. These guys will back me up! Gundam Side Story discussion at Arctic Nightfall Forums Edited March 22, 2004 by wakobi Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 Hehehe, those crazy bootleggers can slap any $h!t on a DVD and otaku fanboys will eat them up. Those animated cut scenes way too brief and don't tell any story out of the game's context, and the animation quality is not even halfway decent. In some scenes they literally used only 1 cel (still frame) and the camera simply pans over from one side to the other. I pity the fool who pays money for it. Quote
GRAND CANNON Posted March 23, 2004 Author Posted March 23, 2004 ....and the hope has been dashed.... Thanks for the info. It's too bad. Guess I'm back to trying to find a good Seed set with decent subs. (I know, I know....another dream...... ) Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 SEED is gonna be on Cartoon Network next month and the R1 DVDs should be out soon. Just wait and it'll be out sooner than you know. Quote
GRAND CANNON Posted March 23, 2004 Author Posted March 23, 2004 Can't wait to see it. I am hoping on an FX DVD version some day soon......the Domestic releases kill the wallet!! Quote
gerwalk25 Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Hey GC, Have you heard of Gundam Gaiden (Side Story), Blue Destiny? It's based off of three original FPS Gundam titles for Sega Saturn. It centers around a GM test pilot named Yu Kajima who leaves his "Guinea-Pig" team to volunteer to pilot a newer type of GM using an advanced piloting system called EXAM. The only domestic item is the Manga published by TokyoPop. It's a good read. Quote
Skippy438 Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 I bought it, not worth it. Well, I guess in a way it is, because you get to see the decent videos without having to muck through the sub-par gameplay. Quote

Now if they would only make an MG kit of the MS-08 EFREET: (Pic from MAHQ) I bought it, not worth it. Well, I guess in a way it is, because you get to see the decent videos without having to muck through the sub-par gameplay. How long is it? Is it cell-animated or CG? Quote
Blaine23 Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Hehehe, those crazy bootleggers can slap any $h!t on a DVD and otaku fanboys will eat them up. Heh... which makes the bootleggers pretty much the same as the legit companies, in that regard. Quote
gerwalk25 Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 How long is it? Is it cell-animated or CG? CG unfortunately. It could have been better if they used cells. Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 ??? The game does include cel animated scenes. Are you saying the DVD only includes the CG animated cut scenes using the in-game engine?! That's an even bigger ripoff then I thought it was. Quote
Skippy438 Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 No, it's got all the cel videos too, and as far as I can tell (in the 5 minutes I've sat down with it since I bought it 3 weeks ago) is that it's all the videos that are unlockable in the game, no in game sequences or anything like that. And the subs really suck in some places, but the Japanese VAs are better (especially Johnny Ridden's!) Quote
