areaseven
Jubei-chan 2 ~Siberia Yagyu no Gyakushuu~ ( 十兵衛ちゃん2 ~シベリア柳生の逆襲~ ) Madhouse Studios/TV Tokyo/King Records, 2004 U.S. Distributor Pending Directed by Akitaro Daichi (Now and Then, Here and There, Fruits Basket) Not Rated (Suggested 13-Up). Contains violence, slight nudity, mature situations and strong language. Three hundred years ago, in the frigid land of Siberia, Jubei Yagyu engaged in a fierce battle with Kitaretsusai of the Northern Yagyu clan. The duel was costly, as his daughter Freasha was frozen in suspended animation. As a result of global warming in the present day, Freasha breaks free from her icy grave and moves to Japan as a middle school transfer student, where she befriends Jiyuu Nanohana. Little does Jiyuu know that Freasha is targeting her to acquire the coveted Lovely Eye Patch, which Freasha believes is rightfully hers. Story: B If you thought Jubei-chan: Secret of the Lovely Eyepatch had a rather twisted storyline, get ready for a second serving. Jubei-chan 2 is funnier and more action-packed than its predecessor. Of course, first-timers will need to watch the first series before venturing to this title. Animation: A- The first series had very good animation. Jubei-chan 2 completely blows it away with smoother animation and cleaner artwork, as well as some cool fight scenes. Takahiro Yoshimatsu (Slayers) returns as character designer. Soundtrack: A- Toshiro Masuda (Naruto) is back with some fast-paced music to go with this series. That and an impressive ending theme by Yui Horie. Cast Jubei-chan 2 features Yui Horie (Naru in Love Hina, Ayu in Ultra Maniac) as Jiyuu, Erina Nakayama as Freasha, Reiko Yasuhara (Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran) as Mikage, Hiroki Ohtsu as Shiro, and Natsuyo Atarashi as Kozaru. Reprising their roles are Yuji Ueda (Sexy Commando: Sugoi-yo! Masaru-san, Keitaro in Love Hina as Bantaro, Keiji Fujiwara (Eledore in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, Edmundo in Heat Guy J) as Sai, and Chinami Nishimura (Greta in A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, Kiki in Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team) as Ozaru. The Bottom Line If you liked Jubei-chan, you will enjoy Jubei-chan 2. It's sword-slashing comedy like no other. I still gotta watch the first one. This is the second season. So far, I'm seeing 11 episodes for this series; which means that if Jubei-chan 2 is licensed, you're looking at three discs.
