I'm going to try posting a few photos, with the following general parameters:

1) Pick a Macross toy.

2) Find a different toy in the same scale (within, say, 2-3%).

3) Take some pictures of them together to get a sense of scale. Make sure to identify them.

Not much point in putting Valks from the same line together, and there are already plenty of 1/60 Q-Rau/Valk pics out there...

First up: Matchbox version of the Takatoku 1/144 Destroid Defender, with a Dragon CanDo Pocket Army 1/144 M1A2 Abrams (4th Infantry Division, Iraq 2003).

Here's a 1:24 Takara Binaltech Smokescreen (scaled to match a 1:48) next to a 1:48 Yamato VF-1S (in Battroid Mode). I sure hope I did this right.

Sorry abou my crappy photochop. I did this in a couple of minutes.

Somehow I don't think a car is THAT small compared to a VF-1......

the binaltechs are 1:24... just take a pic and halve the size of the Car... looks right to me... picture a 1:48 pilot next to that... if anything it might be too big?

Go wild, folks, but personally I think it's more interesting if you can get the scale to match "naturally" instead of digitally resizing. That way the thread can be a sort of "guide to what toys will go with what Macross mecha".

About matching scales: a 1/60 battroid is about 92% the height of a 1/55, and anyone who's put them next to each other can tell that's a pretty big difference. To see if two toys are compatible, take their scales and divide the smaller by the larger. If the result is 0.97 or more, the difference isn't very noticeable--it'd be a difference of a "scale foot" for a battroid.

Some new pics in a few minutes...

Okay, ready to go. Next up: Bandai 1/55 Hikaru, and Radio Shack R/C PzKpfw VI Ausf. E Tiger I, approximately 1/54. (Some more info in this thread.)

Background is photoshopped in previous pic, BTW. Nothing else is altered. The carpet makes a nice steppe, doesn't it?

Next: Gerwalk attack! Russia, 1944...

I was checking those R/C Tigers out (from Radio Shack right?) How would you rate them quality-wise?

Photoshop job with my cat and a pic taken from Graham's review of the VT-1 without permission. :p Thanks for the review and pictures Graham! ;)

Vic, what's the toy with your Yamato 1/48 VF-1J? What's its scale (or size). Has it been rescaled n the pic?

Warrhead--I think the Radio Shack R/C Tiger is great! I have a pretty detailed review in the thread I linked above. Price has gone down a couple dollars, I think--now it's just about $30. I'd recommend getting rechargeable batteries for the controller and charger stand, but don't do like I did--I got the batteries and battery charger at RS. You can probably do much better at Costco or Target, etc.

Fun thread!  Good job ewilen!

Thanks!

But come on people, identify the toys/models! Otherwise this is just a wacky picture thread.

I'm all for wacky picture threads...but yah, I think this was supposed to be used for size comparisons...oh well, on with the show!!
