Awesome. I'm glad they changed Ban's costume (due to what happens in the last episode of the series). It would've been too easy (and sloppy) to have him return in his regular outfit.

Ban's Fire Squad stint has been consistent since Mahou Sentai Magiranger vs. Dekaranger. It's just a question on whether or not he's still a hothead or Fire Squad completely matured him, as his really brief cameo in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger suggested the latter.

And wow - Jasmine-chan, Umeko-chan, and Swan-san have not aged at all.

Synopsis
"S.P.D.: Special Police Dekaranger. Six detectives: burning hearts, fighting cool. Their mission is to combat alien criminals on Earth. They protect the peace and safety of all humanity!

"But now, they are no longer together. The passage of 10 years has given them new destinies, and they followed separate paths."

Ten years have passed since the Dekarangers saved Earth from Agent Abrella and his Alienizers. Still in the force, Tetsu has become the Chief of S.P.D.'s Earth branch while Sen-chan and Umeko are busy training Assam and Mugi - the new Deka Red and Deka Yellow, respectively. Meanwhile, Houji has fallen into depression while Jasmine has retired after getting married. One night, the Dekarangers encounter the Clementian Carrie, who has the ability to hide herself in anyone's body. Shortly after Ban - now a member of the elite Fire Squad - returns to Earth, they are assigned to protect Carrie, who is a witness to an incident that ruined Doggie Kruger's reputation and adversely affected S.P.D. as a whole. Carrie's testimony is the key that may clear Doggie's name for good.

Lowdown
Ever since Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and Toei's local dub of Power Rangers S.P.D., fans have long clamored for a Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger reunion - especially since Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger had theirs a couple of years ago. Well, we've finally gotten our much-awaited reunion; and it starts on a downer.

To say that things have changed over the past decade is an understatement. Most of the cast have greatly matured except for Houji, who spends the first 10 or so minutes moping around and playing video games. Ban and Tetsu, who were the loudest characters in the series, are now the most serious, given their current ranks. Jasmine-chan's marriage is one of the biggest WTFs in tokusatsu history, if you still remember the series. Even the most diehard Dekaranger fans will feel alienated by the dark atmosphere of the first act, but the pace picks up on the second act with our spandex-clad heroes fighting armies of Mechanoids and outsmarting even the audience just like the good old days. It's here that the Dekarangers are back to their old selves, from Sen-chan doing his signature "thinking pose" to Houji spouting out Engrish catchphrases to Tetsu's "Nonsense" line. The CGI-based special effects are as cheesy as ever, but that's what we love about this series. And the music has not changed a single bit, with Psychic Lover and Isao Sasaki returning with their theme songs.

Yes, the film starts on a depressing note, but that was the plan all along, as without a doubt, Dekaranger: 10 Years After is a must-see for any Super Sentai fan. It proves that even after a decade, the Dekarangers still have that same formula that makes them one of the best Super Sentai teams of all time.

"S.P.D.: Special Police Dekaranger. Six detectives: burning hearts, fighting cool. They are forever. Please remember them when you feel down. Even if they're not there now, the Dekarangers will always be in your hearts. So keep fighting with them. When you overcome one of life's emergencies, surely a wonderful and expansive galaxy awaits you. Forever Dekaranger!"

Rating: B+
