B-52 GUNNER Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 The Viper is an original 1978 Monogram kit that I restored. The Raider is a second release made by Revell Monogram. Scot Quote

Lynx7725 Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Sorry for the large picture? All the more to enjoy the details. Damn, that Viper's almost as old as I am... Quote
B-52 GUNNER Posted February 16, 2004 Author Posted February 16, 2004 The Viper was going into the trash in a garage of a friend back in 1991. It was covered in oil and wasn't painted. The decals were flaking off and the wings were broken. I asked Rob if I could have it and he said sure. I broke all the seams, washed the parts, and place them all in a plastic bag in the closet for about 4 years. When I got my first airbrush I remembered the long forgotten Viper and started the restoration. I needed to recreate the decals but before I could Revell Monogram rereleased the kit. Lucky for me I had a friend at the local hobbyshop that gave me a set of decals out of the box for the kit they built for the display window. And the rest is history. Scot Quote
bsu legato Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Great job, B-52 Gunner. I just have a slight nitpick about the Viper, though. Why is it so clean? The studio models were so weathered that they made the X-Wings look like they'd just rolled out of the paint booth. Quote
Myersjessee Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 nice work...they both look very nice! I have had a Galactica Reveloution recently...forgot how much I loved those ships! Quote
MSW Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 Looks nice ... but sorta "incomplete" might just be the lighting and phot quality but both models look like they are drying while awaiting final weathering... On the Raider very few of the details pop out...a light subtle drybrushing over the surface with a slightly lighter color combined with some darker washes in the heavy kibble areas would definetely help give the model much more "depth". Course the same done more agressively would definetly help the Viper as well... Quote
Sarensaas Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 I just have a slight nitpick about the Viper, though. Why is it so clean? Well, the Vipers had to be clean at SOME point Perhaps when Adama was still flying one?? I prefer them weathered too. I hope someone comes out with a plastic kit of the Viper MK-II from the Sci-Fi BG version now that a series has been announced. And maybe a kit of that Eastern Alliance battlecruiser... Quote
