Bmaximum Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 I'm not sure if it's been posed before but what does the "Y" in YF-1, YF-19, YF-21 ect. mean? I'm fairly certain "VF" means variable fighter but the "Y" I find a bit perplexing. Anyone know what it means, just curious...
Neova Posted February 15, 2004 Posted February 15, 2004 (edited) The Y are prototype variants. V are for production machines. Macross Plus has YF-19 and YF-21 while Macross 7 and on had VF designations for the 19 and 21 (and 22, etc...). Its funny that Macross Zero did not have YF-0 designations for those Valkyries but I guess the OVA timeframe had the planes out of "beta" testing. Edited February 15, 2004 by Neova
