dr_vandermeer Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 why oh why do i not live in japan... *sigh*... Quote
Chronocidal Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Good god.. I'd go broke in a minute in there. That's just incredible. Actually, it looks freakishly like a dream I had once.. I dunno what spawned it, but I think I dreamed I won a shopping spree in the Japanese toy equivalent of a Costco, or Pace, or whatever discount bulk wholesale place you have near you...It was just like that, gundams stacked everywhere, all those huge perfect grade kits stocked up in piles and piles... only difference was the Yamato Valk section, complete with everything Yamato makes for Macross, from the 1/60th line to the Low-vis 1/48th..Being a dream, I imagine there were even 1/48th Mac+ valks, and 1/32 ones as well, but it's all a blur now. But that looks like the closest thing to it. Btw, is it just me, or does the new Transformers Armada Starscream look strangely like a VF-11? (aside from the big gun/engine/intake/missile launcher things on top ) Quote

(aside from the big gun/engine/intake/missile launcher things on top ) Yeah, I noticed that too. I thought the Armada jets looked oddly Macross like. Quote
EXO Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 I wish there was a toy shop like that where I live. But on the other hand, thanks good there isnt, I would be separated, jobless and flat broke. And WHAT is tha DOG TRANSLATOR thingie is! How can a thing like that exist at all! you be quiet! they need a TRU like that in shanghai, and at Jpn prices too!! I'd go everyday and make friends with the employees! Oh... like you did to the one here in Cerritos??? lol... I guess there's such a thing as a TRU groupie... j/k How recent are these pics? It looks like they're stocked up for everything. Kids (over 20 yrs. old... of course) in Japan have it made and they don't even know it. Quote
MrDisco Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 hey so that's what heaven looks like! Quote
ComicKaze Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 The Cat/Dog/Baby translators are made by Takara and sold by Hasbro here in North American TRU's. Quote
Mad Dawg Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 G1 Megs sitting out on a shelf in plain view of the public? at first... ...and then And WTF is up with the GameCube selection?! The component video cable? Stocked and available. The Matsushita GC with DVD and DIVX capabilities? Stocked and available. Quote
BFG-1 Gigan Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 Words cannot describe, this..this..place, tears well from my eyes in the glory of all that is in that store... That is Utopia Quote
Anubis Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 That's it, I'm learning Japanese and moving to the holy land. Quote
BFG-1 Gigan Posted February 11, 2004 Posted February 11, 2004 (edited) Actualy Transformers arn't that popular there as they are here, Gundam reigns with title of king there. besides most of the stores there are crowded because of their compact style...so there are bad lines for nearly everything Edited February 11, 2004 by BFG-1 Gigan Quote
Rick_Randy Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 which pic of which thru is this?? i gotta go to Japan without my gal. (she prevents me going to toy stores.. most of the time shopping for girl stuff with me carrying her stuf f. ) Quote
Solscud007 Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Yeah been fortunate to spend my money there a bunch of times in japan. Quote
Skull00 Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 went to the TRU next to the Toshimaen amusement park (basically in the middle of nowhere)and it had WAY more macross stuff than the huge TRU store at Ikebukuro Sunshine (Major Tokyo station). I'm pretty sure Toshimaen had the full 1/48 and 1/60 lineups at great prices while Ikebukuro just had an 1/60 elint seeker and a max 1A. The prices at TRU in Japan are generally better than specialist stores like Volks (also in Ikebukuro - the Otaku capital of Tokyo, dontcha know?) Quote
Darth Cirrocu Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 I went to the TRU in Iruma on a fairly regular basis when I was stationed at Yokota. I remember picking up my Yammie Super VF-1J there, but the prices were usually retail. I could get stuff at Bic Bic in Tachikawa or Sakuraya in Shinjuku for 20-30% off retail. I only bought at TRU if I couldn't find it anywhere else. TRU did have the best Star Wars section, however. Although the figures were 999, and even with 120 yen to the dollar that was too much. Man, I miss Japan. Quote
Angel's Fury Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Monkey-N, do you know exactly where they are located? They are everywhere. I know of 3 just in my area. One is right next to the Kindergarten where I work. But there si a difference in the stores. Set up is the same but alot of the items are different. But I guess that is the same with any store. Rob MN Can you PM me their locations w/ some maps. Thanks. Quote
Vostok 7 Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Maybe its just me.... but I sort of drooled and had a mine almost heart attack when I saw this picture.http://www.collectiondx.com/features/japan...es/P5311246.jpg *giggles* You're not the only one *drool* I went to a TRU in Hong Kong (IIRC, it was Kowloon side in that big 3 story mall). Wasn't impressive to me. It looked like a US TRU I wanna go to Japan now. Vostok 7 Quote
Commander McBride Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Having a store with that many gundam kits at realistic prices is probably my #2 mecha freak dream. #1 would be being one of those people that can afford to buy every kit and figure that comes out, and just stashes them away until they are needed. I just love the idea of having a well stocked anime store in my basement!! But, back on topic, it's really incredible what these JDM TRUs have just lying around. The thing that really got me was the picture (not here) of row after row of FIX figs. Quote

Vostok 7 Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Why did you bother going to a TRU in HK, when there are so many excellent toy and hobby shops here selling Japanese toys?Graham lol I just hadda go to an Asian TRU... It was when the 1/60 Hikaru was being release and I thought they would have one. I was in there once for like 5 minuites... Then the rest of the time I went hunting in local shops (most of which IIRC I got from suggestions on here )... The local shops do indeed rock so very hardcore. I scored a MSIA Dendrobium for like $70... It was on sale, and we managed to still work him down after I bought a couple Auto Art 1/18 cars from him Vostok 7 Quote
