Thom Posted Thursday at 04:39 PM Posted Thursday at 04:39 PM Hello there, I am thinking about buying the 1/48 VF-1 kit, but I was wondering about size. Specifically, if someone could do a side-by-side with a 1/72 jet like the F-14, that would be great. Thom Quote
kajnrig Posted Thursday at 09:34 PM Posted Thursday at 09:34 PM (edited) EDIT: I unfortunately don't have pics to compare size. A 1/48 VF-1 will be slightly larger than most 1/72 modern fighters/other 1/72 VFs, so it should feel pretty much at home among them. The only obvious discrepancy will be the cockpit/pilot. You could maybe transfer a 1/72 VF-1 cockpit tub and pilot over; I've thought about doing that but have never gone through with it. Edited Thursday at 09:35 PM by kajnrig Quote
Thom Posted Thursday at 10:25 PM Author Posted Thursday at 10:25 PM Yeah, I have a 1/48 Legios that I have (distant) plans of doing the same, and now maybe with a 1/48 VF-1 too. The one thing I don't like about the VF-1 is its small size. From when I was a kid, I just always thought it was comparabale in size to the Tomcat. Butr plant it next to a VF-0 or 25 and it looks dinky. IMO. Quote

geck Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Yep...the 1/48 Strike boxes are a good size because of the extra parts for the Fast Packs. Also...keep in mind that Hasegawa does not give you an option to build these with landing gear up. No idea why they couldn't give that as an option. If you want the gear up...you'll have to do some surgery and get them to fit in. The Max/Millia 1/48 Super does NOT come with a female pilot either...which is baffling. Another cop out. I ended up creating one in Blender and printing her out. Such a shame because these 1/48 kits are superior to the 1/72 ones in my opinion in both build and detail. I hope they give us more variants...and Battroids! Quote

To put the landing gear "up", I would most likely use sheet styrene and make one piece to fill the space for the doors, then scribe the panel lines on them. Might need to "roll" the panels a little to make them fit, but it would be better in my mind than trying to glue individual panels together. 9 hours ago, geck said: The Max/Millia 1/48 Super does NOT come with a female pilot either...which is baffling.
