Chuey Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 (edited) So occasionally at work on a graveshifht, I am forced to watch CNN for eight hours. For the last few weeks, I have seen a Tokyo tourism commercial featuring Astro Boy. Anyone know the deal behind this? Is this simply chance that this character is being used close to the release of a new show on the WB or is it related? P.S. pardon my misspelling of Tokyo in the title. F-ZeroOne Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 Astro Boy has recently been revived for a new anime show in Japan, and Japan is promoting itself as a tourist destination this year. Could be related to that... Quote
yellowlightman Posted February 7, 2004 Posted February 7, 2004 I've seen that commerical too. I'd say combined with the new Astro Boy TV show, the fact that Astro Boy is also one of the most well known parts of Japanese pop culture, aside from the likes of Godzilla. I don't think a tourism commercial featuring Godzilla would work every well. "Come see Tokyo... Before Godzilla destroys it! Again!" Quote
