Its neat, but my opinion they should have kept it 24fps and skipped all the interpolation to get it to 60fps
The motion is just odd in almost every scene where there is panning or action. It was drawn at 24fps-just keep it there and work on picture quality. :)

Again just my opinion, not bashing the project at all.

From one of the art books
youtube compression is playing major havoc with that video as well, I am very very sure.

That's really cool you have that @Shawn

Looks good on my phone! I'm sure it will get yanked down soon though :(

i figure that too. That's why I immediately watched it on the 60" screen.

Yeah I'm kind of surprised it even was allowed by YouTube.. to my understanding, it would have been blocked right away as soon as the movie was uploaded and detected to be copyright material.

Yeah the 60fps interpolation is definitely a bit jarring. I usually never favor de-noising as well, because film grain does lend it a certain look appropriate of its era.

On other hand, this does such a great job to make everything crystal clear, and pausing it anywhere certainly makes each frame look like how a crisp cel is when freshly produced before any degradation over the years.

Edit: The more I watch it, the more impressive it looks. The color is vibrant, the contrast is great, and details in darker areas are so much more noticeable than before.

I suppose it's a testament to how well everything was drawn but it's fascinating at 60fps some of these scenes like the Nousjadel-Ger infiltrating the Macross you could almost believe was 3D animation.

it still stands in the top spot for animation beauty for me. It’s always been just amazing to look at

Interesting, I think the source for this could have been the 2007 DVD release, as the previous blu-ray versions had some animation errors corrected (i.e. filling in the missing paint gap in the operators hand, or Focker's yellow chest during being captured), and the infamous milia head crush/sdf-1 head chop being blurred/censored.

I don't think we've had the unfixed animation errors + uncensored head in any Blu-Ray release have we?

2007 DVD regular = unfixed animation + uncensored  (what I think the source for the 4k upscale is)
2007 DVD Remastered = fixed animation + uncensored
2012 PS3 hybrid version = fixed animation + censored
2016 Blu-Ray = fixed animation + uncensored

The source for this upscale seems to be the remastered DVD right?

Its crazy they were able to upscale and make it this sharp from a DVD source. I would of guessed it was at least from the Blu-ray.
