jvmacross Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 This should be good... I remember coming home from school when I was in pre-school or kindergarten and looking forward to watching the latest episodes of Speed Racer...one of my earliest memories...dang I'm old! Quote
Big s Posted November 17, 2024 Posted November 17, 2024 Is it supposed to be purple at the bottom half, I always thought it was all white and occasionally got a little shading there? Quote
Tking22 Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Yeah I'm in, for me, this is one of the most iconic pop culture cars out there, I really liked the live action movie too! Quote
TangledThorns Posted February 17 Posted February 17 (edited) Last year when I was looking at new Jaguar F-Types their white paint with red leather interior combo gave my Mach 5 vibes., especially in convertible. More so than a Corvette or other 2 seat sports car imho. Ended up going with Carpathian Grey paint with black leather coupe which gets compared to the Batmobile, lol. Valkyrie Hunter D Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I hope Bandai puts a trunk monkey in there in secret as a hidden bonus. Quote
Steady Posted Sunday at 12:27 AM Posted Sunday at 12:27 AM Looks great except for the lower half of the car being blue. Why did they do that?? Quote

I was kinda wondering that, but then I watched the classic intro and it made me question whether it’s just shading or was intentionally that color to begin with. I’m not a speed racer expert, but it does appear all white in the show. Either Bandai did that weird thing they do and picked a scene where the color is different or they know something most of us don’t. there oddly appears to be a dividing line as well, but either way Bandai did their blue too dark. Still I’m not totally convinced that this isn’t just shading Quote

Still I’m not totally convinced that this isn’t just shading To me, it looks like shading because in the in the image you posted, its a gradual change from white to blue--and its a light blue. On the new Bandai toy, its a solid color. I always interpreted the "dividing line" you're talking about as a way to illustrate the sharp crease in the sheet metal of the car's body. I always thought of the car as all white. Its a cool model otherwise. Quote

kanedaestes Posted Sunday at 02:37 AM Posted Sunday at 02:37 AM I had to look it up and the Mach 5 is actually two colors. Not just shading. You can see it in the episodes. It’s just all subsequent materials and products after the show make it all white this Bandai is actually correct. Quote

I’ve never seen a toy or model or even a replica car this color until now. And now that I’ve seen it, every scene has it that way, but my brain still wants to say it’s just shading. Quote
anime52k8 Posted Sunday at 10:30 AM Posted Sunday at 10:30 AM watch the show in HD and it actually is that dark. And the grey is there in literally every scene, Quote

And the grey is there in literally every scene, I don’t think it’s quite as dark as the toy, but it’s there even when it’s airborne facing upwards. I’ve started believing that it actually was supposed to be two main colors. Now it sort of makes sense why some of the sequel shows had more blue colors Maybe it would be easier to check on an episode where it’s completely upside down. Quote
