Bummer.  It's not an exaggeration to say that my love of fantasy and science fiction  began with me admiring the Brothers Hildenbrant's artwork for The Sword of  Shannara and Urshurak.

I'd have to do a deeper dive to truly appreciate the scope of his work, but there's no doubt that iconic Star Wars poster must be one of his most well-known pieces. Out of the examples posted, it's the only one I know. That said, Mr. Hildebrandt had some serious talent, as he could paint in various styles, as the posted examples also testify, and from my limited experience, that's uncommon. Again, we remember another lost talent who touched the world with their art. RIP Greg Hildebrandt and thanks for adding beauty to the world.

Good memories of their Marvel Masterpieces cards and I had their poster from the Ultima Online charter edition on my wall way back when.

RIP

That is sad. The Hilderbrandts are my first intro to illustration along with Stephen Hickman, Brom, Dave Dorman, Glenn Farby and Simon Bisley just to name a few. Their cover art has a flair of old time story telling which is why they've been a goto for fantasy art. It's unfortunate to know that he had passed due to complications to his heart medication which raises lots of questions for his family. I've had my malpractice inquiry for my mother's complication to a stroke medication and the hospital responsible for her sudden stroke is protected by the legal system. No lawyer would take my case because their might be no money it for them. These people need to be accountable  to have it go on like this and they operate within our society  with impunity.
