Jie Star SDF-1 Macross

Is this news?  I did a search on the boards but didn't find anything.  Also, I'm putting this here because the box has Robotech branding.

I'm not familiar with Jie Star, but it looks to be a Chinese "not-Lego" brand of building bricks.  They make all sorts of kits, including scenery, video game stuff, anime stuff, real-world cars, etc, but of particular interest around these parts would be this nearly 4700 piece, almost 700mm long SDF-1 Macross kit.  Apparently the completed kit has working lights and can transform without disassembly.

I ordered one a couple of days ago.   Can always complain to ShowZ if the bricks are shit.  Didn't know where to put the thread either so I left it alone.

 

I just hope these bricks are better than those used by the GI Joe not-Legos set.   Those vehicle designs and bricks were pretty much garbage.  Good thing those were on discount and I really just wanted the mini-figs.

I have, many times. In fact, I have an order on the way right now. They're legit. Just be aware that they're shipping the SDF-1 by sea, which they do for larger items, so it can take awhile. I've had two orders that were sent by sea, and both took around three months to arrive.

Don't know anything about 3rd party block kits...are these exclusive to this website or can they be found elsewhere?

Also....they don't or can't ship large kits any faster?

The kits are not exclusive, they can be found on other sites like AliExpress.

I came across a few sites selling the SDF-1, but I'm not familiar with them. They're a bit more, and they seem to promise faster shipping by taking the bricks out of the box, repackaging them into a bag-style mailer, and tossing the box.

As far as Chow-Brick's shipping goes, usually you can pay to upgrade to express shipping. I didn't see the option to for the SDF-1, though.

BTW, I didn't realize the bricks are being sold under the chowbrick domain, but chowbrick is actually ShowZ Store.

Yes...started to browse for it and have found it on other sites including ebay...but they all say that the box isn't included...some also have a different piece count...

I might pull the trigger....my son isn't into Legos as much anymore, so I feel I lost my excuse for buying cool Lego sets...lol

It does look really nice....looks like they based it off the Takatoku 1\3000 SDF-1...

ShowZ, ChowBrick, Gundammit.   Same store just split into differenent websites but use the same user id/paassword.   ShowZ (original just TF and 3P TF) was getting crowded with Gundam, Gundam KO stuff and mecha.  TF fans complained that it was hard to search for stuff so they split into ShowZ and Gundammit.   Then they added ChowBrick for the lego people and GKLoot for anime statue people.  Not sure when/what 77figure came along and no idea what that sells.

I've ordered many many times from ShowZ,  a few from Gundammit and a couple of times from ChowBrick.

This looks neat and in the style I like that I might have to get one. Will check on the pricing, I can wait for the long term shipping. I have more then enough other model projects on my plate.

 

edit: Just looked at the price, free shipping and only $120, chances are good I'll be grabbing this next month.

I saw this review of some other ChowBrick non-Lego set and it looked pretty good. None of the bricks looked warped or damaged. I don't know if this will be the same quality. Is Chow-Brick the name of the brand or just the name of the store that sells these non-Lego sets? Is Jie Star the brand name?

Chow Brick is the store.  Jie Star is the company making the ko lego set.

I bought one here.  I ordered from them before, and they're reliable.  However, they will ship your kits without the original boxes.  Instead, they will be packed in padded pouches.

I jumped the gun on this; the shipping cost is huge compared to my previous orders.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago.  Still haven't put it together since I read that it's as big as a Transformers Titan class toy.   Yeah....not sure where I would put it so it's still in box right now.

This looks really neat,  I will admit I am on the fence with 2 fairly large issues about it.    1. Just simply not having the patience or time to sit down and finish this.  2. People in my house who are unable to keep their hands to themselves (adults) either when I have it built,  or while I have parts sorted while I am building it.       .... yes this is an issue.

As a Lego and Macross fan, this looks really cool. Plus it's based on the TV version, which doesn't seem to get enough love. Appears to be 70cm long, which would put it maybe around 1/2000 scale? Display space could be a concern, but I still want one. 😁

Solution to both: glue it together with epoxy.

I ordered one of these from Chowbrick.  It took about a month to arrive, but it got here in good shape, and they did include the box.

I haven't had time to build much of it yet.  And it's probably going to take me a while, since I'm trying to replace all the transparent green and purple bits with solid blue and white bricks.  I think it'll look a lot better that way when it's done.

@jeniusYou should make a video review of this set. I'd like to see a size comparison with other Macross toys like Arcadia SDF-1 and DX Valkyries.

I've seen a couple people post pictures of this set on the Facebook group but there's only one YouTube review and it's in French (and sideways... literally).  It needs your magic review touch.
