Shawn Posted September 21 Posted September 21 As far as I know the SDCon is skipped this year. Maybe when the DYRL 4k subtitle is released in January, all the So-Cal members can pitch in and we can rent out a private theater session and watch it on the big screen That would be pretty cool. Quote
boinger Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Maybe, they could do an online Macross Convention that would allow international Macross fan participation? I just can't get holidays scheduled for Macross conventions; my work tells me to plan my holidays a year in advance! Super Dimension Convention Zoom Call Across Space & Time? Quote
boinger Posted September 24 Posted September 24 (edited) I also had this idea about a DYRL Singalong that all Macross fans could participate in. Kind of like 2020 Blue Rodeo - Alone Together Singalong! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yteNPh-boY I was going to call it: Super Dimension Macross (Fan) Love Concert: Do You Remember Love? SingAlong Music Across Space & Time! Jeff from Asplenia Studio was going to work on some T-shirts! I'm not sure if he has had the time to do that yet? I was going to update my DYRL blog rememberprojectm.blogspot.com to promote DYRL, DYRL Singalong and Macross fan projects with a magazine called "MegaRoad Projects" dedicated to Macross fan projects! This would be an amazing idea! Especially with the 40the anniversary, I thought if the con happened this year, a screening would have been a great idea at the con if it was possible. I can't wait for the release in January! Quote

I’ve always wanted to see it on the big screen and kinda wrote it off as fantasy here in the states. Are there legal issues for that? And how much do you think it would cost overall to make something like that happen? Quote
Shawn Posted October 7 Posted October 7 If you do searches, it looks like its between $500 and $1000 for a private screening https://www.landmarktheatres.com/theatre-rental/ divided by 40 something fans it could be quite affordable Quote

There's a few people looking at doing something in a new format for next year, so if they want to do this, I hope to look at them to organize this. The issue that I think was brought up was that since it's not something that anyone has done, we'd need to figure out a way to cover the expenses. We can't charge at the box office (at least I don't think so), so however that works out, we'd need to figure out seating capacity, and find a way to make it work. It wouldn't be a business doing it either, so we'd need to make it a thing that works to cover the costs. @Shawn, I think someone, if not myself, will probably get in contact with you soon about this idea. When you mentioned it to me at RTF, it sounded like a great idea. I've seen DYRL in theater once in Japan when the blu ray first came out, but that was back in 2014. It'd be a great time seeing it in that setting with a bucket of popcorn and a soda. Quote

I guess presale on the tickets as a requirement and limit the amount of tickets to the size of the theater room Quote
505thAirborne Posted October 13 Posted October 13 A DYRL screening would be fun and a good excuse to visit CA again... I'll sneak in some backpacking afterwards. LOL Quote
sh9000 Posted October 14 Posted October 14 I'm down to go. Please consider having the screening in the Los Angeles area. Quote

I think someone is already looking into this, so it depends on how many we can seat, price, time, and how the list works. I think we just add people to a list, so if we can get this set up, we'll start rolling with it. Just out of curiosity, there's a couple ideas floating around. First is doing it in conjunction with another event to maximize people that'd like to go. It'd also help the event we piggyback off of. OR... We just do this separate and a loan project, in which it'd be local to SoCal, and those that are willing to travel, but it'd be it's own thing. In either case, off hand, if you had an opportunity to go to something like this, maybe even get a cool few little event memorabilia, how much would you be willing to pay for that (not knowing how much the theater cost)? Bolt Posted October 26 Posted October 26 (edited) I would most certainly go out of my way for a sit down screening! Personal, it would be great in conjunction with another event. But this beggar won't choose I think , cost wise $30 -$50 ,depending on how many can commit of course , and if there's some kind of memorabilia involved. Edited October 26 by Bolt Quote

Big s Posted October 26 Posted October 26 How about an un official popcorn bucket? nothin crazy, just maybe some cool print on the outside would be worth a few extra bucks Quote
jenius Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Could we glam onto Robo Toy Fest somehow? Looks like that happens in the middle of the summer though. Quote

nightmareB4macross Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Popcorn bucket idea… Every time you get popcorn it would be like you’re doing a “Daedelus Attack!” Quote
Microbe999 Posted October 27 Posted October 27 I wouldn't mind getting maybe a theatrical poster print or T-shirt to commemorate the event. What about the possibility of a hotel ballroom with an above average theatrical projection and sound system so you could accommodate a small convention and everyone could watch the screening? I think the movie theater would provide the best experience ultimately but maybe this could accommodate a bigger turnout if it calls for it. Quote

sh9000 Posted October 29 Posted October 29 I'll take a Misa, Minmay, or Milia popcorn bucket in the same style. Quote

Falcon Posted November 3 Posted November 3 With SDC 2024 cancelled, any hints on dates for 2025? Always hope to one day go but with work I can never get the dates right. Next year I could go on September 27 but knowing my luck it would fall somewhere else by a week or so to rub it in my face. 😂 Quote
