Chronocidal Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Still would rather have the Ba model after this long, but I'm thinking that ship has just completely sailed at this point.. or Bandai sunk it, anyhow. I'm surprised they revisited the mold at all, considering how it seemed to fall out of demand so quickly after the original release. Quote
burnout6 Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Missed the boat on this one. Any place that still has it for a decent price ? Quote

I'm betting the change was on purpose, since Keith's ankles were an absolute pushover to collapse, and I doubt they would have even stayed extended while standing on the feet. Huh. Mine weren't like that at all. The ankles on my Keith were so tight I didn't even know they collapsed at all until I read this thread and have just had an annoying gap there this whole time. Quote

There's one available at Mandarake right now for 26,000 yen. But I can't imagine Bogue's 262 to be popular at all and I would think the price for this will come down quite a bit over time, even more so at US stores when they arrive stateside and will likely be shelfwarmers. Chronocidal Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Yeah, this is one of those releases I'd expect to see in the sub-$200 range on Amazon eventually. I don't know what happened with Max's YF-29, but it must have been massively over-produced, for how many times it's gone on clearance there. Quote

Does the back of the plane in fighter mode always look so crooked from the two arms splitting? I've never owned either versions of this toy. This reminds of my old MPM Optimum Prime that always seem like it was bursting at the seams since it couldn't hold itself in vehicle mode. part-2: Quote
Shawn Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Oh man watching that battroid to fighter mode transformation made me remember all the pain again It never looks quite the same after you transform it from the factory fighter mode with all the extra gaps. I wonder if they have a big press at the end of the factory line that squashes it all together at the end lol Quote
derex3592 Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I guess I'm in the minority around here but I find the transformation not anywhere near as annoying for this as other Valks. Looking at you Yamato 17s and Bandai 171s. My brain just kinda gets this. Maybe because it's such a radical departure from the norm. Quote
Chronocidal Posted March 10 Posted March 10 Comparing anything to the frustration of the 171 is a very low bar. But I kind of love the transformation itself. The issues are more with Bandai's messy hinge shenanigans around the arms and wings, and the lousy clearance they gave for the fists. Quote

Colors look better than the promos IMO. The clear parts look kind of murkier than usual though. Hope thats not a sign of quality change. I picked up 2 to go with its 2 brothers in blue. [I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes of the animation so I have no idea who pilots these valks or how many additional colors/repaints I should expect.] Quote
jenius Posted March 11 Posted March 11 There's only been two releases over all these years so I don't think bandai is going to be challenging you with many options. There's one other color (white) with this head and several others with a different head. Quote

I do hope Bandai eventually releases at least one BA, as I far prefer the head design. Quote

[I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes of the animation so I have no idea who pilots these valks or how many additional colors/repaints I should expect.] The blue one is piloted by Keith, the main "antagonist" combatant for most of the show. Does nothing memorable other than kill a fan fav ace pilot. Only shows up to cause mayhem on behalf of his bromance partner that is controlling his brother and the whole country. The red one is piloted by Bogue (aka Booger, of course he gets the bloody scheme...). He was the insignificant second in command that angsts like a preschooler. Only got promoted to fly this unit in the post TV series movie, since Keith offed himself to stop the true big bad, his bromance partner, in the TV finale. Then there's the evil "misguided" bromance partner himself, the true big bad, Roid. Great name... He remote controls his unit, only appearing in the final fight, in white and gold. AKA the pope unit. They might have teased this unit at a hobby show, I'm not sure anymore, but if they did, it's long since become another classic Bandai vaporware. All of the above are the commander Sv-262Hs models with the dog toothed delta wings and have what I call the anubis head. The rest are the grunt units, Sv-262Ba, with the squid head and backward swept wings. The the bulk of them are turquoise. The main entourage of 4 or 5 with faces and names that nobody remembers, originally including Booger, had these, They had some minor custom colored stripes. I don't think anyone remembers who was which color, or was able to tell while in action scenes. Then there's the the pope's fodder units. They were remote hijacked grunt units, controlled by Roid like his pope unit, but nano paint changed from the standard turquoise into a white, silver, and lesser gold scheme. I'd say they look kind of like crusaders. I don't think anyone actually remembers these existing, so its never going to be merchandized. Finally, there's the unit that Mirage, the shafted secondary heroine, stole in the recap/retcon movie. She changed it into her custom magenta and white scheme. Bandai having not made a DX of this heroine valk after so long, IMO is basically an announcement that they refuse to make molds for the Ba model We keep hoping there is a Ba, but I don't think most people realistically have expectations of it happening anymore lol. I've stopped trying to make sense of Delta as a whole a long time ago, but I don't remember any discussion that painted Messer as a fan favorite character. He was mostly just a jerk that didn't get much development or any redeeming qualities until he was already killed off. I've mentioned it before, but I'm pretty convinced we will never see a Ba release specifically because of how insanely fragile the head design is. The model kit version is made up of a dozen folding panels that all explode in different directions if you look at it funny. I just don't see any way they can manufacture that to work as a toy. jenius Posted March 12 Posted March 12 That's interesting, I never thought about that head being complicated. I'll have to take a closer look. Quote

I'm not exactly sure I would call it complicated so much as insanely fragile. The model kit, in theory, replicated the original mechanism shown in the show. The pope hat isn't a problem, but there are two absolutely microscopic armatures that the cheek panels are attached to. In the model, these are some of the most fragile parts I've ever seen in any kit. The panels rely on a tiny ball joint to snap onto, and they fall off if you look at them sideways. "Transformation" is almost literally impossible, because there is no way to transform those panels without pulling them off, realigning the armatures manually, and then putting the panels back on. You pretty much have to assemble the entire thing with tweezers. I just really have no confidence that Bandai could produce this as a functional toy. Edited March 13 by Chronocidal Quote

Well, considering the western mecha audience hates the series, our echo chamber doesn't really count as fans, so our opinion doesn't matter lmao. Meanwhile, the main ship of the show is arguably KanameXMesser. Vtubers love their macross music too, so Axia and Giraffe Blues covers are always accompanied with joke weeping for Messer. He's basically not disliked outside of here, and maybe MAL reveiws. The retcon did away with most of him having a stick up his bum anyway. They turned him into the tragedy train instead, so its fair to say, he ultimately became the single memorable event in the TV series and retcon movie. Most importantly, yall took my sentence apart and went off on it without all of the words lol. I called him the fan fav ace pilot, not fan fav character, or idol. Afterall, he is kind of undeniably the best pilot in the show, since everyone else either does nothing, or uses copious amounts of space idol magic, hile he fought evenly and basically only lost to his own handicap. At least until Max shows up and breaks the power scaling with his cameo character hacks. Quote
