The movie has aired in theaters in Japan, no? Has there been any feedback?

Now that it's the 26th, has anyone come across anyone who watched the remaster and what they thought of it?

Online stores catering to international buyers have officially started shipping preorders of the new DYRL? box set as of about two hours ago (JST).

CDJapan notified me a short time ago that my copy has shipped, and should be here before the week is out. 😁

Also shipped from cdjapan. I’m thrilled! This is truly exciting. If it’s as promised and has english subtitles I’m going to be over the moon.  (Yes part of me still fears the subs was a miscommunication) as you can see from my little icon pic, I’ve been waiting for this since 1985

Technically it releases in two days.. well maybe tomorrow in Japan. The international shipping going out is to meet that release time frame likely.

My CDJapan order hasn't given shipping confirmation but my order status is "In Shipping Process" so stuff is happening.

Anyone know how the poster comes? I'm presuming folded, but how many times, etc? Might try to drymount and frame

Mine shipped from cdjapan as well. DHL estimates that I should have it by friday here in New Zealand...

CDJapan's delivery flew close to the ground, I've just been informed a batch including mine is already out for delivery in multiple cities in the east coast and midwest.

Similar, I just got my notification from them this morning and they say it's coming today (in CA here).

Granted, I picked FedEx shipping it seems so that might be why.

My copy just arrived.

Box was a bit dinged-up, but the contents arrived undamaged.

Got a fraud notice for my Amazon.co.jp order. I got the block cleared, so now I'm just waiting for it to go through. Past experience (the Macross Zero BD, in fact) tells me it might not work, though, and I would have to cancel and place a new order for the item. The product page

https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/dp/B0DDSXWB1F

indicates it's no longer available for shipping to the US. Is this the case for anyone else State-side?

If I do end up getting screwed on this, anyone have an alternative source that's still taking orders?

CDJapan still has it available at time of writing.

The one that is out of stock at amz-jp is the one with the poster.

The regular LE without the poster (like the cdjapan-link) is still available at amz-jp:

The reason you can order it to a Japan address but not one outside of Japan is because it's only available from themurd party sellers who only ship to Japan. None that ship outside of Japan like Amazon itself.

I just received mine.

Here are my initial impressions.

Image--First off, I never owned this on HD 1080 blu-ray, so I can't compare this with that.  For this 4K version, to my eyes, any and all grain has been completely wiped away.  It does not look like film.  The picture is clear and stable, but a lot of the painted background details look kind of smeared.  Some shots, and even some parts of the image look out of focus which could be from the original film source.  This is a 41 year old film.  There seems to be less detail on the characters.  It looks softer to me.  I would've liked to have the film grain, because I think overall detail was lost when the grain was removed.  In my opinion, I think this could've looked a lot better, but I doubt they are going to revisit this.  So I have to be happy with what I got.  Beggars can't be choosers.  I've owned this movie in so many different formats, and this is probably going to be the last physical version of the movie.  Its not perfect, and I paid a lot for it, but I'm glad I finally have it.

Oh, and the bloody gore is intact.

Sound--The DTS-HD 5.1 sounds great.  No complaints.

Subtitles--Available in Japanese and English.  They can be turned off completely.  They look nice.  The songs have also been subtitled and appear at the top of the screen.  The songs being subtitled is a pet peeve of mine, but at least I can turn them off whenever I want.

I have mixed feelings about the image quality, but I never ever thought this would be released with English subtitles. So I'm counting this as a win.

Again just my thoughts.

You have confirmed what we were all worried about. That's a shame.

Do I keep my order before it ships from Amazon...?

Thanks for the initial review Steady! Can you confirm if the set comes with the original version of the movie? If so, have you watched it and compared the image quality with the re-mastered version?
