Chronocidal Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Grabbed a pre-order at CD Japan, been a while since I ordered anything there. Glad to see it includes the original release version, since the edits to the last release were irritating. Quote
Graham Posted August 22 Posted August 22 DYRL is my all time favorite anime movie and all time favorite Macross anime, so I'm really looking forward to getting this release. Quote
Valkyrie Hunter D Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Ooh, could someone please share a US - friendly link for the Limited First Edition? Quote

Judging by the notes on where it's coming from, I'm not sure this will actually exist at all. I'm okay with the normal one I think though, I'll happily toss the subtitled version in the fancy case from the previous blu-ray release. Quote

Oihan Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Sorry, I can't recall, but does Amazon.co.jp ship movies to the US? Quote
505thAirborne Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Is this new release uncensored? If I remember correctly, the last Blu-ray had some of the violent scenes cut. Quote

Make sure your amz-jp has your US-address instead of your previous JP-address, tho. 1 minute ago, 505thAirborne said: Is this new release uncensored? Oihan Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I'm also seeing this link float around the web...I'm not sure what the differences are between the first link for Amazon in this thread and this : https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0DDSPHF8D Quote
Shawn Posted August 22 Posted August 22 this part gives me hope "With this 4K remaster, I was surprised that even scenes that I felt were out of focus were so perfectly in focus." Quote

Shawn Posted August 22 Posted August 22 so they do say a new film scanning techniques, but from the video they provided I still see blurry video. Wonder if they are doing some sort of AI type enhancements. colors are definitely more vibrant Quote

Maybe a bit updated to scale and do 4K... Quote
Shawn Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I tried using Buyee to get it (deluxe) from here but they don't support that site https://a-onstore.jp/item/item-1000232378 https://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000216012/ Quote
Valkyrie Hunter D Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Trying out From Japan right now. I'll see if they get back to me with a quote. Quote
Shawn Posted August 22 Posted August 22 the transcript https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4Hngnqylo8 I've got one of those original scripts Quote
Shawn Posted August 22 Posted August 22 bluray(top) vs youtube of the 4k promo video(bottom) the youtube does not represent a true 4k pic(compression) but the colors are def richer Quote
Shawn Posted August 22 Posted August 22 another bluray(top) vs youtube 4k promo bottom I get to be the first to say "where did all the film grain go" LOL I will assume it is Youtube compression playing a major part, so these comparison aren't really helpful. Quote

I don't know how many of you have seen The Transformers: The Movie (1986) in 4K w/HDR...but I think it looks incredible. If they can do for Macross: DYRL? what they did for TF:TM, I can't wait! Edit: I'm generalizing by saying "they" before anyone asks.... Edited August 22 by Oihan Quote

network19 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 The color does look different. It pops out a bit more. Still looks a bit blurry on certain scenes. I know that YouTube doesn't do it justice but on one of the comparisons, it does look a bit worse. I'm happy they are finally releasing it in 4K and possibly in HDR, don't know if it also has a new audio mix. But this looks to be the final version of DYRL that I am ever going to buy. If the subs turn out bad then I guess I'll remux it with fansubs. Guess this is the closest we'll get to a western release. Quote
