Grabbed a pre-order at CD Japan, been a while since I ordered anything there.

Glad to see it includes the original release version, since the edits to the last release were irritating.

DYRL is my all time favorite anime movie and all time favorite Macross anime, so I'm really looking forward to getting this release.

Ooh, could someone please share a US - friendly link for the Limited First Edition?

Judging by the notes on where it's coming from, I'm not sure this will actually exist at all.

I'm okay with the normal one I think though, I'll happily toss the subtitled version in the fancy case from the previous blu-ray release.

Is this new release uncensored?

If I remember correctly, the last Blu-ray had some of the violent scenes cut.

They did re-release it with those scenes unedited. Hopefully that's what we'll get with the 4k release!

Sorry, I can't recall, but does Amazon.co.jp ship movies to the US?

Yup.

Make sure your amz-jp has your US-address instead of your previous JP-address, tho.

iirc, only the first BD release of DYRL had cuts.

Subsequent BD releases of DYRL restored those cuts.

this part gives me hope

"With this 4K remaster, I was surprised that even scenes that I felt were out of focus were so perfectly in focus."

That link does not include the B3 poster.

Check the shipping-cost difference between that and this https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B0DDSXWB1F

Thank you! I was looking at the wrong place for pricing differences. Also, thank you for confirming that Amazon.co.jp ships to the US!

Edit: Pre-ordered as well! So stoked! Can't wait!

so they do say a new film scanning techniques, but from the video they provided I still see blurry video. Wonder if they are doing some sort of AI type enhancements.
colors are definitely more vibrant

Could be the same AI tech they used on the Macross Zero BD remaster.

Maybe a bit updated to scale and do 4K...

bluray(top) vs youtube of the 4k promo video(bottom)
the youtube does not represent a true 4k pic(compression) but the colors are def richer

another bluray(top) vs youtube 4k promo bottom

I get to be the first to say "where did all the film grain go" LOL
I will assume it is Youtube compression playing a major part, so these comparison aren't really helpful.

Think it is safe to say the film will have HDR?  I don't know how many of you have seen The Transformers: The Movie (1986) in 4K w/HDR...but I think it looks incredible.  If they can do for Macross: DYRL? what they did for TF:TM, I can't wait!

Edit:  I'm generalizing by saying "they" before anyone asks....

What’s the difference 84 theatrical release format and the 2016 complete version?

The color does look different. It pops out a bit more. Still looks a bit blurry on certain scenes. I know that YouTube doesn't do it justice but on one of the comparisons, it does look a bit worse. I'm happy they are finally releasing it in 4K and possibly in HDR, don't know if it also has a new audio mix. But this looks to be the final version of DYRL that I am ever going to buy. If the subs turn out bad then I guess I'll remux it with fansubs. Guess this is the closest we'll get to a western release.
