Smaug Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I'm simulator pilot since 2 year with falcon 4.0,in mypoint of view it's fantastic, but my dream it's someday pilot a vf-1j look like a f-16, i don't know if anybody know falcon 4.0 and the work that make thee comunity falcon to make better, in the actual version of bms 1.03 and freefalcon 2.1 put in some aircraft new, maybe some day a vf-1j/a/s can be fly... If anybody know 3D and know the work in falcon 4.0 maybe can work for do it thank, and sorry for my English Quote
Rick_Randy Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Nice to hear that there is another flight simmer out there. Falcon 4.0 is cool but I am more a Prop pusher guns only nut myself. There was a post a few month ago regarding somone modifying the wing commander engine To using valks but can't remember the page. someone also made one for flight unlimited but forgot the link. can anyone ther help us out on all three queries? Quote
mbs357 Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 OoOOOoo I love flightsims. I've never had a joystick though. D= I've got a Suncom F-15 joystick, but it doesn't work right...no drivers...or something. I've been thinking about a good flight sim, but haven't been able to find a good one (with jets). Meh. Anyway, I would really love for some type of Valkyrie to be imported into a game... XD Quote
Lightning Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 if you get any joystick at all, get a Saitek X-45, it's got a seperate throttle and stick with a load of buttons on it. Quote
Smaug Posted February 7, 2004 Author Posted February 7, 2004 for the falcon 4.0, I have the Saitek x-35, profile for flight and the last drivers, if someboy need it I can send, if you are interested you can visit : http://bluemonkeys.net/ (spanish) http://www.frugalsworld.com/ (English) For you is most easy tell about vf-1s/a/j than men in the forum, (I have to learn more English!!!!) , Quote
Evil Monkey Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 There was a post a few month ago regarding somone modifying the wing commander engine To using valks but can't remember the page.someone also made one for flight unlimited but forgot the link. can anyone ther help us out on all three queries? The page to the Wing Commaander 3 Secret Ops TC is here http://macross.solsector.net/ Cool they made a TC for Flight Unlimited??? I love my Saitek... I got one cheap from thier main site, it was refurbished and at half the cost.... I only wish I knew how to program it Quote
Rick_Randy Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 Thanx evil Monkey.. Hope they release it soon. I still use my old Thrustmaster and cheap "topgun" joystick. Not as good as the f16 hotas stick but servicable.(even without rudder pedals.) If they do make a good conversion for falcon, they should include a map editor and at least a glaug to pilot if ever a death match version ever arose. anyone got the URL HL mod for macross? is it any good? still looking for the flight unlimited valk add on.. Quote
Lightning Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 I can't afford an 80 dollar joystick. it's a bit pricey, but it's worth every penny Quote
Rick_Randy Posted February 16, 2004 Posted February 16, 2004 (edited) Once you go stick and cheap rudder you never fly by keyboard again. seriously you can pick up a flight model quickshot joystick for around 30$ which is basically an old thrustmaster knock off(change the springs with hose sprinkler set springs) or even the old topgun from thrustmaster , they should be around the same price by now. The old phoenix joystick is barely satisfactory with throttles anything is satisfactory. Manuevers become fun.. Personally I am still looking for an old model CH products throttle. one throttle made of 2 sliders for each engine used best for 2engine prop pusher flightmodels like a mosquito or lightning (the L model is my favorite dogfight craft)IT looks similar to the one in a Vf cockpit.(can't rememer the model number) Edited February 16, 2004 by Rick_Randy Quote
Mr Frosty Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Cool!! More sim pilots!! I have a TM cougar and I would kill to keep it. I also have Stell Battalion for XBOX and that's the closest I have been to working a mech!! Mr Frosty Check Six! Quote
Rick_Randy Posted March 10, 2004 Posted March 10, 2004 Sim are cool, steel batallion is cool, I just wish we had thhem twin sticks for PC!!! I just got an xbox for 2 titles SB and BC (ok call that heresy but it came before macross on ps2..) I'd like in on pc with a mech editor, that sure would rock. Greetx to all simmers out there but seriously there should be flightmodel and map editors for falcon 4.0 anyone there got links to mech editors for mechwarrior mercenaries. hands up wich simmer here wants a VF sim with cockpit view as opposed to third person view. Quote
KingNor Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 hands up wich simmer here wants a VF sim with cockpit view as opposed to third person view. i would love a valk sim something along the lines of that old X-wing game that came out. the problem is batroid mode... would you switch to mouse and keyboar FPS controlls? Quote
KingNor Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 btw , here is my joystick: Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold. very. very . very cool. Quote
Rick_Randy Posted March 29, 2004 Posted March 29, 2004 (edited) Kingnor Cool Joy about your question on changing to mouse, It does not have to be that drastic or complicated. Earlier controls of macross games to me sucked because though they thought of putting a "lock on" to simplify controls. The lack of "free look" and manual aiming leaves much to be desired and feels limited. An example is macross plus, I wish I could customise all button rather than pre set controls and use the other "hat for movement" with manual gun aiming. There should be less emphassis on missiles, more on combat and manueverability. I am both a hardcore simmer and FPS duellist and would want both elements of gameplay combined successfully. (meaning less emphasis on sniping more on mobility and fire tracking. a valk is after all made for mobility) as with controls A joystick with a hat could solve some problems I'd setup controls it would be something that concentrates controls more on mobility with free look, with sensitivity option for battroid mode. The turning in battroid mode should have a bit of weight when turning not too easy to turn like an fps heavier than the turning rate of the high macs in gun griffon blaze. I want it to "feel" like a mech. not some fps. I have been a hard core simmer and know that this config is easy to learn (even for lefties, just swap over the joysick from right to left) Fighter mode (joystick + keyboard) ------------------------------------------------------- stick trigger button=fire secondary button=weapon cyle or transformation cycle Hat=pilot look (with auto forward view then hat is released) Up=down down=climb left= bank left right= bank right -------------------------- ch throttle with hat slider=thrust hat left=left rudder hat right=right rudder other buttons for airbrakes, weapon cyle and more importantly transformation cycle(fighter, gerwalk to battroid) keyboard equivalent left arrow= left rudder right arrow= left rudder forward=increase thrust backward=decrease ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- battroid mode Stick Trigger=gunpod (faster firing rate than fighter or gerwalk) Secondary button =transformation cycle up=looks down down=looks up left=turn left right= turn right hat= thrust vectoring for left, right, forward for up and down (there is no point in making forward thrust and back because running forward and back should already provide that) throttle hat forward= forward hat back= back hat left=strafe left hat right= strafe right keyboard equivalent left arrow= left right arrow= right forward=forward backward=back cntrl key=thrust button default thrust upward but + direction keys thrust in that direction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gerwalk Joystick config similar to fighter except hat is for pilot look thruster/keyboard config is that of battroid ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This should provide easy mobility albeit limited compared to the anime VF but has much more freedom than macross plus game. I hate relying auto aim like all hard core simmers.I do want limited ammo on the gunpod and missiles I'd also like to see the barroid controls used if anyone one out there decides to include a regult or glaug to pilot.. mbs357 Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 Indeed. I've always hoped that one day I could learn C++ somehow and code me a Macross game/mod with something similar to your ideas. Quote
Rick_Randy Posted March 30, 2004 Posted March 30, 2004 heh ,everyone is tight fisted with source code, if that was not the case we would be working with it.it seems many copmpanies still do not understand the joys of "freelook firing" or "mouse look aiming" while moving."(eg metriod prime is an awesome game, but to me the controls for iming up and down sucked) as with RTbattle cry, which genius thought of turning it into a snipe/cs like game?(for me it really kills the idea of being in a mech much like ggblaze in sniper mode) I thought the 55mm 3 barrel gun pod was more like a minigun, innacurate at extreme ranges but good for strafing and in close to mid range duels.(anyone play the ut2003 minigun?,something like that but without the secondary function.) as with HL as an engine for that, as long as people don't script, cheat ans snipe with a valk, then yes it is viable as a lan valk game. there used to be a "robotech" mod for duke 3d at the now dead http://www.dukeworld.com for duke3d but it sucked because you had the default weapons. my ideal sim valk game should come with free for all deathmatch capabilty or team mode with at least 16 players and can pick other vehicles such as the glaug, regult, qrau(ooh yess),all the destroids and also vehicles like the karyovin or dragon 2 with missions such as defending a cat's eye, gaining groud/space or capturing or rescuing shot down pilots.(similar or as the mission in byebye mars) all have cockpit views and have limited ammo with reload points on certain large vehicles that can only accomodate either zentran or micron pilots.(these too can be destroyed, but you'll run out of ammo killing one.) and perhaps mods for these would be new valks and enemy mecha. To make things fair on people playing older mecha, the newer mecha though more manueverable holds much less ammo and less effective missles to balance off the game and NO SNIPE CAPABILITY FOR ALL MECHS.what is the point sniping with a mech designed for the fun of manuevearbility? Quote
mbs357 Posted March 31, 2004 Posted March 31, 2004 Yes!! Quite a few of our ideas are similar. I hadn't really plotted all of mine out really, just thought, "If I ever made a Macross game, it'd be like..." Ya know? Quote
ulyssesdraco Posted April 1, 2004 Posted April 1, 2004 (edited) Ahh yes, the X45. Amazingly delicious, and has more buttons than you can shake a badger at. Several of which light up. Its only flaw is that it doesn't have force feedback. I myself have the "special edition", with the sea greenish colored base. Great stick, works great with Mechwarrior. Very comfy. Also, if you've ever seen T3:Rise of the Machines, during the scene when the hero turns that big magnet thing on, the lever that controls the things power output is an x45 throttle/rudder stick with a red colored base. Rick_Randy Posted April 4, 2004 Posted April 4, 2004 Nice rig? nice of you to point that out. Very nice combo indeed. Have any guys out there worked out soe drivers for dos game for that stick too:) (almost tempting to upgrade) I see many here have already taken advantage of the stick and throttle. One wonders why No company has put this idea and Macross together, if so successfully? c'mon, a real Macross sim is what we all need. and eds out there for falcon 4.0 to mod? I know years ago there has been oe used for mechwarrior mercenaries but couldn't find it no more. YOu could edit your mech, weapons, heck even be able to import and 3d wire frame as your mech and mod the characteristics.Anyone got any leads? Quote
mbs357 Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 I went to Hampton to see the IMax NASCAR thing, on the way back, we went to Waterside. There we went to a small mall, in some kind of bar slash arcade thing, I found these big gray box like things... Upon further examination, I found they were simulators for, according to the big huge banner on the wall that I had missed, BATTLETECH. Or essentially a Mechwarrior spinoff. I didn't get to try it, they looked out of order, but man did it give me ideas. For one, they had a door that slid and closed so you were totally enclosed within this full scale and full functional cockpit. It was awesome. I don't know how hard it'd be to make a Macross version of this...I know having the transformation to battroid would be way difficult, but man it gave me ideas... Quote
Lightning Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 (edited) Rick, there's a "company" that's modding Mercenaries, i think it's mektek.net Edited April 14, 2004 by Lightning 06 Quote
Rick_Randy Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 (edited) Lightning 06 did they have the wire frame editor for mechs? I have been looking for that utility for a long time. It was mentioned that i was on a now defuct mech warrior fan page. mbs357 I think I know what sim you mean. Battletech sim a few years back was meant to take off with the ability to play other people, possible interstate (planned but not done) It is okay, but not I am not too much a mechwarrior fan. Nice idea though.arcade game developers should be listening to guys like you guys if they want the loyalty of players' pockets.Worth every quarter. Would like to pilot at least a high max against BT world mechs Ironic isn't it?The BT world ripped off Macross for some designs yet they get their arcade sim/pc sim... (eg. of ripped off designs "tomahalk"= "rifleman" "glaug"="marauder",the list goes on.) Who's back should we get on to get a macross universe arcade sim?(REAL SIM NOT 3rd person perspective) If BT could have one, surely the arcade giants in Japan should have little trouble making one, all they need to do is simplify the controls a little to make it easier to learn to play (NO NOT LOCK ON!!!) IF any macross arcade game should emerge, the only lock on should be for the missiles in gerwalk and fighter mode NOT "Virtual On" style. (THough I am ok myself at it I crave manual aiming playing against someone) The most difficult thing would probably emulating limited physics of the fighter. As a felow sim fan I'd like the valk to have a little weight perhaps some emulated inertia on sharp turns. alas I am still studying programming at uni still not at game programmers level yet and could not get a sniff nof 3d source code and physics models yet though wish I would get an non functioning cabinet so I can tear out the guts, modify and put my console/s/ pc in it:) Edited April 14, 2004 by Rick_Randy Quote
