Yeah, a lot of people seem to be satisfied with Skeleton Crew.  It's a light, fun, engaging little story that has a great deal of charm and is doing something new and different with the Star Wars IP.  It doesn't have to be the best thing since sliced bread.  It just has to be something people enjoy watching... and it definitely seems to be that.

If anything, it's a solid argument that Star Wars can and should put more distance between itself and the "Skywalker Saga" since so many Skywalker-adjacent stories are trash.

Wholesomely agree! It's been a good, fun ride so far.

Yep. I am 100% looking forward to the ending of Skeleton Crew's first season, and I wholeheartedly hope it gets the second season the showrunners have been hoping for.👍

I guess if D+ "non-ad" subscriptions are a significant majority....maybe?

We still cannot say that the show will not tie "somehow" into the Mandoverse or ST....patience padawans!

We'll see.  As has been noted in other threads for Star Wars shows, measuring the actual performance of direct-to-streaming titles is difficult to do accurately since the only ones in possession of the complete viewership data are the first-party content creators themselves.  Nielsen says it didn't chart in the top 10 on the basis of total minutes watched, though other streaming data agregators assert the series was pretty consistently in the top 10 in terms of the number of households watching in the US and Canada. 🤔

Disney, of course, are going to have their own criteria for judging if the series is a success or not.  The bar may be a bit lower than The Acolyte's was, since Skeleton Crew's reviews have been broadly positive rather than overwhelmingly negative like its predecessor's and it cost $100 million less to make.

Either way, Skeleton Crew seems set to be remembered as one of The Few Good Ones from the Disney+ Star Wars lineup.

Realy?....have a link where this show has been "consistently" in the top 10? Everything I read seems to say it was at the 15th spot at best....

Yeah...been saying this on previous posts....they must have some rock bottom ROI figure that they use to determine if a show was "good enough" financially...the advertisers must also have their criteria for wether or not to toss ad dollars to a show....the less eyes on a show, the lowrr the ad revenues....so so that is another thing to follow...D+'s ad revenues....if the go lower it means no one is watching...no matter how "good" some may think a show is....sadly, everything I have seen seems to indicate that the viewership numbers for Pirates of the Outer Rim are unfortunately lower than The Acolyte....a certified stinker and proven loser straight from D+'s bean counters!

Kinda late to the conversation, had power and internet issues this past week due to high winds and fire safety for the region. But was finally able to watch the newest episode. I’d been avoiding anything talking about the show as well due to spoilers and such.
not a bad episode, definitely had some fun moments. Although I think after catching up on this thread that I gotta agree

Spoiler

That the mint thing is a bit of a let down.

I still think SM33 is the best character on the show.
And I see a few here are predicting that Joe is gonna have either a death or some kind of beat down coming his way in the next episode. I’m throwing my prediction that he’s gonna have some kind of redemption possibly saving the planet somehow from pirate invasion and might actually get away with a pocket full of credits.

one more to go and maybe we’ll finally get to see the supervisor

They kinda did. They used to say in school that you’re sleeping with everyone that you’re lover has slept if you don’t use protection and Han obviously didn’t. And a certain princess seemed to enjoy making out with a certain future Jedi, and who knows how far that went off screen.

It's mentioned in the show's Wikipedia... aggregators TVision, JustWatch, and Whip Media have variously had the series as the top-streaming show in the US, in the top five in the US, or in the top ten in Canada.

IMO, it'd be pretty weird if Jod were "redeemed" in the final episode.  The last few episodes have made a point of having him Kick The Dog to remind the audience he's a cruel, evil, bloodthirsty space pirate who has no real qualms about killing.

Spoiler

Remember, our introduction to Jod was him ordering his crew to throw a freighter captain out his own ship's airlock for refusing to open the ship's vault.  Ever since he went back to his pirate alias "Captain Silvo", he's proven to have no qualms about murder and threatened to torture the kids parents to death with a lightsaber just to make them be quiet.  The last thing we see him do in the penultimate episode is take the kids and their families hostage.

Weird?.....Are you watching the same "fantasy space opera"?  As I metioned earlier...the last 'adult' force user who threatened children with death...and actually carried it out!....was redeemed, so nothing weird about redemption for mass murderers in a galaxy far, far away....

Pretty much my reason to think he’s gonna probably end up with the usual redemption thing. Ever since he met the kids, he’s been greedy, but not totally bloodthirsty. That werewolf guy was asking for it and I think that’s more of a preemptive strike than anything else.

Pirate Wolfie had no chance of survival from the moment he first appeared on screen as the main "bad guy"...he follows a long line of "cool-looking" bad guys that end up dying dumb deaths.....Boba Fett, Captain Phasma, all of the Knights of Ren....LOL.........maybe he'll somehow show up at the last second and kill Evil Jack Sparrow.....maybe he's more cat than dog and has nine lives!

Boba Fett, Captain Phasma,

Well, the first survived and the other got dumped in a hole, so she’s more than likely still alive since holes don’t kill in Star Wars. I can’t really think of a Star Wars character that actually died of hole. Captain Werewolf died by being shot, but then again it was a blaster and not a Silvo bullet

Reminds of that...

Spoiler

...odd moment when he was threatening the kid's parents. I don't know if it was just me, but I felt it was odd the way he was waving the lightsaber around, and he seemed to be making some meaningful eye contact with Fern while doing it. Again, maybe it's just me and it was nothing. A bit of a reach too, I know, seeing as there was no one else there to see it, unless he thought they were being monitored by the same autopilot system taking the ship in.

Nevermind. Anyone watching would know he was bluffing then anyway. Move along.😁

We'll find out Tuesday!

OK, that's a fair point... though, in his case, redemption equalled death (after an amputation, humiliation, and being barbeque'd alive in his black leather gimp suit) so it's not like he got off lightly or got to stick around.  He didn't get a free heel-face turn or any forgiveness for what he did. 🤔

I'll give the most facual weight to what shows up on Disney's quarterly and annual earnings reports WRT LucasFilm and Disney+.  It's a bit of a wait, but the best data is first party data.

I’d like to agree, but then it would change too much and Everyone from Palpatine to Darth Maul would have to have died by hole as well. And to be honest, that wouldn’t be so bad, but it sure does make a mess for Disney Star Wars. I just count everything lately as a separate continuity, like Macross 2 or something

Now, in all fairness, the Star Wars franchise had already developed a profound love of the Disney Villain Death trope long before George sold it to the House of Mouse.

The old Expanded Universe had Boba Fett survive his trip down the sarlacc pit and Palpatine treating death like a revolving door.  It was already a tired trope when Filoni used it to bring Darth Maul back as half a robot spider in The Clone Wars a year or two before the Disney acquisition.

Disney's twist was reducing lightsaber stab wounds from "instantly fatal" to "a booboo requiring a really big band-aid".🤣

I thought Maul was first shown alive in Solo. But I never watched the clone wars cg show.
And that really wasn’t that big a bandaid. Just one of the larger ones in the variety pack

Nah, Maul was confirmed (and then shown) to be alive way back in the fourth season of The Clone Wars... about six years before Solo: a Star Wars Story, in an episode that aired ~6 months before Disney acquired LucasFilm.  The reason he's a crime lord in the movie also goes back to pre-Disney Filoni material from the show's fifth season.

Creator's pets in Star Wars seem to be pretty death-proof.

It's why I'm so surprised the crew working on Skeleton Crew have been able to restrain themselves from including f*cking Hondo, who often seemed to be the only space pirate in the galaxy in Filoni's work.  (I kinda see why they didn't, though.  Hondo's really not an intimidating man, he couldn't pull off what Jod is pulling off.)

It is a kids show, I don’t think they’re allowed to show something like that. Then again they did add Deadpool, so a scene like that shouldn’t be surprising

🤣 It's not literal... at his worst in The Clone Wars, Hondo Ohnaka is Disney levels of family friendly as a space pirate.  He's just obnoxious and incredibly flamboyant, and he shows up so much during The Clone Wars that one could be forgiven for assuming he was the Galaxy Far Far Away's ONLY space pirate captain.  So he's "f*cking Hondo" as if to say "and then there's this *sshole again".  He returns in Star Wars: Rebels, having lost his crew and resorted to solo acts of piracy, con artistry, and general scoundreldom.

After watching The Clone Wars and Rebels, having a Star Wars story prominently featuring space pirates but with no sign of Hondo feels subtly off, like seeing a photo of a family member but someone's photoshopped out one of their eyebrows or a front tooth.

LOL....of all the things to complain about...you hone in on the one thing that Hondo's inclusion would have brought up again front and center...which is Star Wars' incessant desire to keep a vast galaxy as small as possible....it's bad enough that we keep seeing the same half dozen aliens in practically every show....sometime in each episode!....yeah....not seeing Hondo in this latest stinker was probably one of the few good decisions about it....

🤣 I know, right?  As much as I complain about exactly that, Hondo is so intrinsically associated with space pirates in Star Wars that seeing space pirates without him feels wrong somehow.  Ironically, Hondo is far too affable and principled to do the kind of things Jod is doing.

Before we got cast photos, there was speculation that Jaleel White was hired to play Hondo in live action.

I guess I do not know much about Hondo, personally, I associate him with Smuggler's Run....still I can only assume someone doesn't become a crime boss by being a nice guy...unless you are Boba Fett!  I see Hondo as the kind of crime boss that would never get his hands "dirty"....that's what his crew is for......and speaking of Boba, still can't  forget his nefarious cyborg space vespa riding crew!  Nothing elicits terror or commands respect like cyborgs on shiny space vespas!

Yeah, that's a pretty accurate read on Hondo.  He was a very flamboyant leader who would offer great rewards for crew willing to charge into danger, and was usually the first one to leg it when things went south.  He usually bordered on being an ineffective comic relief villain.

Compared to Hondo's crew, who were more the "rob you and leave you alive" sort with occasional ransoming of VIPs, Captain Silvo's (or Brutus's) pirates in Skeleton Crew come off feeling shockingly bloodthirsty and violent.

You are over-thinking it....most likely the show, in which Hondo's crew features more in, is more or less intended for kids, thus they can'treally get too hard core....ironically, Skellington Crew is supposedly the first SW D+ "kids" show, but somehow  featured straight up murder and a whore house in the first few episodes!...let's face it...the only "kids" watching are grown-ass adults........Incidentally, the same "bloodthirsty" bilge rats have managed to get outsmarted by kids from a suburb far, far away  for the last 7 episodes....and odds are they will somehow manage to cripple Jod's crew without any assistance from the New Republic's 2 X-Wing Squadron!

The Clone Wars started out reasonably kid-friendly, and despite the fairly consistent level of scenery-chewing ham from the villains it gets surprisingly dark in its later seasons.

Kind of a pattern with Filoni's work, really... and for better or worse he seems to have essentially set the tone for the vast majority of new Star Wars development.  Skeleton Crew is one of the few titles that ISN'T tying in to his work in some way.  That's probably WHY the pirates are a lot more bloodthirsty and cruel than the franchise's usual.

Not buyin' that argument any more than the last time you tried it.  I see way too many Star Wars costumes on the trick-or-treaters every year to believe for one second that the only people watching Star Wars are adults. 😉 My niece and nephews are about the right age to take an interest too, though ours has always been more of a Star Trek family.

By in large, the only bloodthirsty bilge rat who's been outsmarted by the kids is Jod... who seems to be ill-prepared to deal with children in general.  Possibly a product of him being a padawan who survived Order 66 if the show's incessant is-he-or-isn't-he teasing pans out.

I kinda suspect the kids will ultimately trick Jod, and possibly his crew, into destroying themselves.
