As for this episode of Skeleton Crew, entertaining all the way. Reveal hidden contents I love the way they get through the 'barrier,' as the Onyx Cinder is an antique used by the Republic to visit the Mint, and possibly the other treasure worlds as well. Before they got blowed up. As for the vault, I can understand how seeing that could drive Jod 'mad' for a moment. Imagine something like Fort Knox* pumping out gold coins for who knows how many decades or centuries, and then just piling it all up because there's been no one to pick up the shipments! It looks like it's all automated, and no one told the droids to stop making the credits, hence the need for over a thousand vaults! And they aren't worthless either. Whether made into a faceless coin or a Republic credit, they are still made from a rare metal, which is the true value of it. Now yes, if they dumped every single credit from the vaults onto the market, the market would tank, but if you control yourself and it miserly, you are literally sitting on a mountain of treasure! One more to go and I really hope this delivers a fantastic kick. *and yes, I know fort Knox doesn't mint coins, it's just a loose analogy. You sure about that? Because The Bad Batch seems to directly contradict it, with the Republic credit being made worthless by nothing more than a decree.

But if the credits are made from a precious metal then it doesn't matter what form it's been molded into. Gold formed into a toilet plunger is still gold.
Thom Posted January 9 Posted January 9 2 hours ago, pengbuzz said: Thom, that's a rather crappy analogy there; you'd best flush it before it clogs the conversation. On that note: it would be best if we didn't plunge into this any further, or it could lead to a pipeline that would tank this topic. At best, it would bowl over any other discussion so far and become an utter sewer of ideas... ...and I'm running out of toilet puns here bro. That's good! Just give it one more flush and go around again!😁
F-ZeroOne Posted January 9 Posted January 9 I have to say Jude Laws performance in the latest episode has been a highlight of the series for me.
jvmacross Posted January 9 Posted January 9 They really leaned hard on the ROTS references on this latest episode.....Last time we saw a grown ass force user threaten "younglings"....things didn't end well for either.... Guessing another flashback showing Jack Sparrow narrowly escaping Order 66....wonder if they'll toss in another fanservice nod by showing us a somewhat familiar Jedi as his master....like they did when they showed Grogu's rescue from Order 66....

Or if that they are referring to here are old Old Republic credits, as in something actually made with real valued material before 'plated lead,' if we want to stretch into supposition. Not knowing how long the mint has been 'unsupervised' would make that possible. Either way though, I'm too entertained to worry about the little niggles.😉 EDIT Or... Spoiler That could be twist at the end, to find out that all these vaults full of money are just basically filled with Fool's Gold. Afterall, who tells the droids to stop when they've run out of the expensive stuff? Edited January 9 by Thom

But what I found was a reference to credits in that period being backed by precious metals, not made from them. Like how paper money in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was backed by the value of a set quantity of gold or silver.🤷♂️ It's possible At Attin is even older than that (I mean, paper starmap anyone?) and comes from an era when they really were minting credits like gold dubloons. 1 hour ago, Thom said: Hide contents That could be twist at the end, to find out that all these vaults full of money are just basically filled with Fool's Gold. Afterall, who tells the droids to stop when they've run out of the expensive stuff? Spoiler That's a bit more complicated than I think this story would go. If they're going to go that route, I'd think they'd go for the simpler explanation that the credits themselves are worthless because there's no Old Republic anymore to honor them. Flooding the market with millions of mint condition "antique" coins will quickly destroy their market value, and Jod "getting away" with crate after crate of worthless money and then dealing with a furious crew would be a perfect bit of symmetry considering the series started with a mutiny caused by him finding no money. Either that or he'll get a Disney villain death when a vault's stock collapses on him or something.
derex3592 Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Jude Law has done a GREAT job of making me absolutely DESPISE his character, especially in the last episode! He needs his A$$ handed to him by someone with more Force powers than him for that sh*t!!! I remember a scene in Clone Wars where Asajj Ventress thought she was going own Master Yoda and he just straight up Force pulled her two sabers out of her hands over to him and was like "what now b*tch" - Something along THOSE lines would be great!
Mog Posted January 10 Posted January 10 I’m personally enjoying the little Force-wielding scoundrel. Been a nice change of pace to see someone who’s not the standard Jedi or Sith archetype. I’m also thankful that they allowed the kids to have consistent flaws and allowed them to make mistakes along the way. They’re screwing up in ways you’d expect kids their age to mess up, consistent with the character traits they each have.

How, as Jod says, "...weak, sheltered, and spoiled..." kids have been able to evade and outsmart a crew of vicious Space Pirates....but I guess that gets a pass by folks looking for something that is slightly better that the worst D+ Star Wars has to offer.... And speaking of weak, sheltered, and spoiled kids....sure sounds like something a disillusioned former "weak, sheltered, and spoiled" padawan might say....guess we'll find out next week...

Spoiler Especially if they go for a full irony ending where Jod ends up either trapped in a vault or escaping with a bunch of worthless credits only to be spaced by his own crew.
jvmacross Posted January 10 Posted January 10 And after all the fake mysteries....we are presented with one final mystery.....what do the idiots on At Attic get privy to once they "graduate"? What can possibly be that interesting to take a chance by even adding one final mystery at the 11th hour?...the payoff has to be pretty big, right? Disney probably wants their Stranger Things too!
jvmacross Posted January 10 Posted January 10 What's with secret maps and hidden planets in Star Wars?....D+ Star Wars has hit rock bottom when they have resorted to ripping off concepts from their much trashed Sequel Trilogy.... Secret maps were used in TFA and again in TROS....hidden planets were a specialty of the Sith up until Pirates of the Outer Rim....again, no idea if these concepts had already been lifted from the EU....

Probably what we, the audience, already know. At Attin was hidden away from the rest of the galaxy A Long Time Ago (in a Galaxy Far Far Away!) because of its critical importance to the Republic's monetary system. The kids don't seem to know what the Great Work is, just that it involves a lot of analytics. 1 hour ago, jvmacross said: Well....may as well go all-out slapstick comedy at this point then....but has there been any D+ Star Wars show so far that did not have delusions of grandeur for a second season? Everyone wants a guaranteed paycheck... so yeah, I expect any showrunner working on a big-name property like Star Wars is hoping their series won't be a one-and-done. Not that I would be complaining if I got to see a murderous Jod take a paintcan to the bonce, wipe out on a pile of space Hot Wheels, and fall down an iced-over staircase. 1 hour ago, jvmacross said: What's with secret maps and hidden planets in Star Wars?....D+ Star Wars has hit rock bottom when they have resorted to ripping off concepts from their much trashed Sequel Trilogy.... Because roughly 90% of Star Wars plots work like a JRPG fetch quest. "You must go to <location> and find <plot critical person who lives like a three-minute walk from wherever they happen to land>."

Yeah, a lot of people seem to be satisfied with Skeleton Crew. It's a light, fun, engaging little story that has a great deal of charm and is doing something new and different with the Star Wars IP. It doesn't have to be the best thing since sliced bread. It just has to be something people enjoy watching... and it definitely seems to be that. If anything, it's a solid argument that Star Wars can and should put more distance between itself and the "Skywalker Saga" since so many Skywalker-adjacent stories are trash.

We still cannot say that the show will not tie "somehow" into the Mandoverse or ST....patience padawans! We'll see. As has been noted in other threads for Star Wars shows, measuring the actual performance of direct-to-streaming titles is difficult to do accurately since the only ones in possession of the complete viewership data are the first-party content creators themselves. Nielsen says it didn't chart in the top 10 on the basis of total minutes watched, though other streaming data agregators assert the series was pretty consistently in the top 10 in terms of the number of households watching in the US and Canada. 🤔 Disney, of course, are going to have their own criteria for judging if the series is a success or not. The bar may be a bit lower than The Acolyte's was, since Skeleton Crew's reviews have been broadly positive rather than overwhelmingly negative like its predecessor's and it cost $100 million less to make. Either way, Skeleton Crew seems set to be remembered as one of The Few Good Ones from the Disney+ Star Wars lineup.

Yeah...been saying this on previous posts....they must have some rock bottom ROI figure that they use to determine if a show was "good enough" financially...the advertisers must also have their criteria for wether or not to toss ad dollars to a show....the less eyes on a show, the lowrr the ad revenues....so so that is another thing to follow...D+'s ad revenues....if the go lower it means no one is watching...no matter how "good" some may think a show is....sadly, everything I have seen seems to indicate that the viewership numbers for Pirates of the Outer Rim are unfortunately lower than The Acolyte....a certified stinker and proven loser straight from D+'s bean counters!
Big s Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Kinda late to the conversation, had power and internet issues this past week due to high winds and fire safety for the region. But was finally able to watch the newest episode. I’d been avoiding anything talking about the show as well due to spoilers and such. not a bad episode, definitely had some fun moments. Although I think after catching up on this thread that I gotta agree Spoiler That the mint thing is a bit of a let down. I still think SM33 is the best character on the show. And I see a few here are predicting that Joe is gonna have either a death or some kind of beat down coming his way in the next episode. I’m throwing my prediction that he’s gonna have some kind of redemption possibly saving the planet somehow from pirate invasion and might actually get away with a pocket full of credits. one more to go and maybe we’ll finally get to see the supervisor

The last few episodes have made a point of having him Kick The Dog to remind the audience he's a cruel, evil, bloodthirsty space pirate who has no real qualms about killing. Spoiler Remember, our introduction to Jod was him ordering his crew to throw a freighter captain out his own ship's airlock for refusing to open the ship's vault. Ever since he went back to his pirate alias "Captain Silvo", he's proven to have no qualms about murder and threatened to torture the kids parents to death with a lightsaber just to make them be quiet. The last thing we see him do in the penultimate episode is take the kids and their families hostage.
