Seems to be attached via like a swivel mechanism. In Guardian mode it is way more separated from the chest plate and closer to the fuselage Edited July 27 by Froy Quote
lechuck Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Honestly like this refreshing take on the VF-1. Battroid looks like it will be fun to mess around with and as already mentioned fighter gives of a VF-2SS vibe – a more futuristic spacecraft, that can't be a bad thing. Quote
Chronocidal Posted July 27 Posted July 27 The stylization I'm kind of ambivalent about. It's a different look, more of a Gundam/Armored Core aesthetic, instead of being a pure transforming aircraft design. Interesting in battroid/gerwalk, but it's definitely not doing fighter mode any favors. Just looks sloppily slapped together, very much like the VF-2SS in both good and bad ways. Interesting detail on the legs to make them beefier though, it looks like the entire inside panel collapses to give the arms more room. Quote

The 1j in battroid appears to have those panels popped out all the way, while the 1S and 1A have them popped in on the above pictures Quote
mark-1s Posted July 28 Posted July 28 (edited) There’s a lot of weird stuff going on with this thing. It looks like it even uses an updated version of the old Chunky Monkey style swing bar. Edited July 28 by mark-1s Quote

Thanks Froy for posting. On a stand banking on an angle, taking photos from above. I think that'd look pretty good!! Quote
twich Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I am really enjoying this time, I Love that we are getting the venerable VF-1 from multiple companies, and they are all different in their execution. Looking at this design, I am really enjoying it. I agree that it has the Vf-2SS vibe going on, but for me, that makes it that much more appealing!. I hope that these are available outside of Hong Kong, or even better, since they are under the Robotech name, available at local physical stores! I would drive to Target or Walmart to get me a VF-1J! We shall see what the future brings! Twich Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted July 28 Posted July 28 At least they are going straight with the 1A CF after 1J and 1S, not M&M. Quote
Chowser Posted August 10 Posted August 10 No love for the -1D? There's so many different ones out now. I have a few of the recent 1/100 and 1/72s that were released. I miss the 1/48 scale. Quote
Bolt Posted August 10 Posted August 10 The Destroid hybrid is interesting. But really I'm not feeling this design at all, it looks so janky. More power to those that want one. Easy pass for me. Quote

I agree with everyone else on this (Hard Pass) but the differences also make me think that the makers (and probably Harmony Gold, since they would have to sign off on this) took a cue from Cataylist Game Labs's propose to the Reseen art work for Battletech. Think about it, a moment. HG can't use any of the original art designs for SDFM-TV or DYRL. Is this HG's means to get around that? Or I am just looking at this wrong? Personally, I'm not sure if that was the goal (CGL's goal was to be able to use designs similar to the classic unseen but not exact/improved upon, which is why they succeed because Battletechs fans are mostly like 'Project Phoenix whut?' when it comes to PP designs to the current art used in the current post kickstarter era we are in). twich Posted August 10 Posted August 10 I maybe in the minority, but I think the more companies that we have making VF-1, Mospeada ride armors and legioss/tread transformable mecha, the better it is. I happen to like this. If it is 1/60 scale, or bigger, then so much the better. I am a little leery about the 1/18 scale Legioss, but I am really liking it and hope it is easily available. Radioguy Posted August 10 Posted August 10 There's obvious more variance from screen accuracy here than most other lines, but it has me intrigued. I wonder what the Lucky Cat Jetwing (if it's still happening) will bring next, now. Quote
Black Valkyrie Posted August 10 Posted August 10 Yes, you can say a cross between Macross 2, Mospeada & Gundam. Quote
graphic revolt Posted August 13 Posted August 13 (edited) I like the stylized take and here's the "but" those fu¢k'n intakes are atrocious! Everything else looks like it went through the A-10 Warthog filter which is daring for Square's rendition. They really need take a second try on the intakes. If they could marry the VF-2SS 's intake layout then I might be captivated to purchase but for now it's a "hard pass" Sorry, a little too overdone. Take it back! twich Posted August 14 Posted August 14 Does anyone know if this toy maker will be at the upcoming New York Comicon? Twich Quote
Radioguy Posted September 16 Posted September 16 It's a toy. I find it amusing that the 1J has a huge goggle. On a shelf together, it might balance out the 3Z. 😄 Quote

DownIsUp Posted September 16 Posted September 16 Looks sick! The tomahawk armor confirms my suspicions that the proportions on these guys are perfectly suited for armoring up. It's a shame that this is a robotech release because it means we'll never get a stampede armor set for these guys. Hopefully they have a few more original designs in the pipeline to fill that void Quote
Stampeed Valkyrie Posted September 16 Posted September 16 This is what a re-imagined for 2024 Macross design would most likely follow. Could be the "new" Chunky Monkies... Quote
rsvictor1976 Posted September 16 Posted September 16 I'm not a fan of those large gaps between the intake on the legs and the chest piece in Valkyrie and Gerwalk mode. That Tomahawk armor is interesting though. Quote

mikeszekely Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Those Battroids look like they should be wearing gym shorts, tank tops, and backwards ball caps while calling other Valkyries "nerds." Quote
MKT Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Looking more at Fighter mode, they have somehow managed to take a sleek jet form and turned into kibble-mess under a jet silhouette - like TF toys. Quote

In fairness to Transformers, they usually at least make some attempt to hide the pile of kibble under the jet. This one doesn't even do that properly. It works fine as a bot, but I don't think I've ever really seen a less-attractive interpretation of a VF-1 fighter mode. In a weird way.. it kind of looks like an obscenely chonky bootleg mashup design? As if someone tried to merge a Chunky Monkey with legs from some other VF-1 knock-off of a completely different scale. Edited September 17 by Chronocidal Quote
