nonner242 Posted June 12 Posted June 12 (edited) Looking for any pics..video..tutorial..step by step on a takedown to parts and screws of the matchbox sdf1. I don't think it would be hard to do just don't wanna have springs or peices flying out or possibly having something really bad like plastic cracking from a hidden tab. I'm planning a total wash down and clean up with total hardware replacement of screws and springs of my sdf-1s and going to repair or modify a couple too in the process. A repaint to DYRL is almost on one with the longer cannons and also have some new sticker sheets for 2 of em. Thank you for any help. Edited June 13 by nonner242 Quote

Sorry, but the only one I have is when I took a busted one and carved all new pieces for it, so it's not a standard breakdown. However, several folks here have redone theirs; hopefully someone can help you with it. I'm sure the gang here can get you fixed up in no time flat! Quote
nightmareB4macross Posted June 14 Posted June 14 It’s a pretty straight forward disassembly. You shouldn’t experience any problems. Quote

Mog Posted June 14 Posted June 14 If you have problems getting the screws to move, try this set-up: Push down on the screwdriver and use the adjustable wrench to torque until you hear a pop/squeak. Got most of those old suckers to open with this technique. Quote
nonner242 Posted June 14 Author Posted June 14 Yes that works well..I have been doing that here and there. Also a larger handles long driver works as well..as long as u can get in there..I can't wait to replace and paint screws eventually. Thanks for looking out for me😁🤘🏻 Quote
nonner242 Posted July 21 Author Posted July 21 Sorry...Yes and no.. I have to many projects going on and choose the easiest part to do on each first..weather and painting along with family time are my biggest issues..so things I can do in short periods or can stop whenever needed are ones I tend to do first. So since the sdf1 is to get fully painted and such... it's on back burner till I get hours to myself and clear sky's with low humidity to paint it with multiple coats.. Quote
jenius Posted July 31 Posted July 31 The Matchbox 1/3000? I don't have any tutorials but it's a very simple toy. I took one apart and put it back together for funsies. I have one now that has been needing a shoulder repair for years... some day I'll get to it. Quote
nonner242 Posted July 31 Author Posted July 31 It's not a horrible breakdown..lot more parts and springs than I expected. Also I have not had free time so I knew it would be sitting around awhile...and I'm start to forget what went where and how it was internally even after taken pictures . It's old age😀 Some painting of part completed. A bunch more to do now that I have the color selection wanted. Hopefully can at least get all part paint this month..weather pending. Rain and humidity have been a constant struggle. Quote
jenius Posted July 31 Posted July 31 While the sentimental side of me still loves glossy plastic toys, that matte finish is looking superb. Quote

I'm the same way as you. But after painting some of it know and seeing the difference it makes..has me wondering what other old shiney plastic toys might need some painting🤔😁 Cobra rattler was first thing that I thought would look great doing this.
