Macross streaming on Disney+ (under the "Star" label; Star/Hulu of D+)

Just tried Macross plus’s and same issue, no subtitles for voices and only Japanese language on the tv, but the option can be toggled on the phone. This is a disappointment problem

So here’s a pic of my tvdoesn’t allow the subtitle option. It says not available and you can’t toggle it.

my phone on the other hand has themthe bottom screenshot shows that you can toggle toggle the subtitles but that doesn’t transfer to the tv

Did anyone else notice that the subtitles for Macross Plus: Movie Edition go out of sync (show up on screen a few seconds before the associated dialogue) about ~28 minutes in?

Can confirm subtitles are available in the Disney+ app on an Apple TV, but they are listed as being Japanese. They're definitely English, though. Close captioned subtitles, as previously reported.

Seems for a lot of people that there’s odd issues with Plus and Flashback 2012 subtitles including myself. So far those seem to be the only ones with problems. I checked the other series stuff and they appear to be fine at the start. The subtitles seem to be selectable and appear on screen on my tv and phone. Hopefully this issue gets resolved soon, but at least there’s still quite a bit of stuff that seems fine.

Yeah, just started Frontier and things look to be displaying properly. Subtitles show as English. It was Flashback that was wonky.

The close captioning is bothering me more than I thought it would. It's not terrible, but there are points where things are too cluttered or go by too quickly because they're trying to fit in the CC.

I wonder why D7 is the only thing we are still missing on D+ here in HK (apart from the original series and DYRL obviously).

It is worth reporting we do have it, but episode 2 has been slightly recut. No one is entirely sure who did it, but it seems they decided to remove the admittedly very uncomfortable Mylene scene. You all know the one if you've seen it before.

While some have grown worried it's a marker of censorship, I think that is an improvement in all honesty... and so far nothing else has appeared to be edited, including many of the more risque stuff in Frontier et al.

Whether that has any bearing on it not being in Hong Kong I can't say.

Could it be how it’s located. Over here in Hulu the stuff is separated between movies and shows. Most of the ova items are on a listing for tv. The movies are mostly in a movie section and there are a couple odd ones like the Macross Plus movie is in the tv section. Not sure if that could be an issue for you or if it’s just not available there yet.

We don't have Hulu here. All the Macross stuff is on D+ here.

On the D+ app, if I type in Macross as a search all the available items show up.

And I daily check for new releases in the app also,

Yeah, I can't say I agree with folks who are complaining about its removal. It blew my mind that the scene was even there to begin it.

I've been noticing with Frontier that there seem to be two added fades to black each episode, right in the middle of scenes. One in the first half of the episode, and one in the second. No idea why.

If it's right in the middle of scenes, that sounds like it's probably to support the unskippable in-app advertisements for people on the lower subscription tiers.

Been off on the MWF for years, but the D+/Hulu drop of Macross has brought me back. I just watched all of Macross Zero this morning before work and can't wait to dig in to all of the other series that I've missed!

Any idea if they plan to have the English dubs of Macross Plus? While I prefer the subs for when I'm really watching, there's something about Bryan Crantson's portrayal of Isamu that just makes me giggle.

It's the experience I've seen on Smart TV apps running Hulu, I have not tested it yet on any of the sets at my place so I am not sure that's just a thing that's happening on certain TV or mobile device versions or if that's a universal thing in the video stream.

I use Apple TV 4K as my streaming device, and I am watching through the Hulu integration in Disney+. I might install the Hulu app itself to see if it still happens there.

yes, i noticed it, for commercials. the fade happens directly on Hulu as i'm using hulu to stream. I don't see the commercials though.

I watched MACROSS PLUS the movie last night on Hulu. I haven't watched it in years, and I damn near teared-up in certain scenes. I forgot just &%$#@ awesome Mac Plus is!!

It’s a Hulu thing that’s been going on for a while now. It usually happens with TV shows rather than movies and is pretty annoying. As Seto said, it’s more than likely for the added commercial breaks. I have the no ad version and it still does a quick fade to black once or twice in tv shows. It basically started as soon as they started rolling in the different tiers of membership and is definitely annoying bit annoying, especially if you pay to be uninterrupted.

Watched the first episode of Macross Zero and no occasional fades to black. However, the quality of the picture was disappointing. Looked to be SD. I am going to guess it's a limitation of the original source, like Flashback.

Wait let me get this right. I can’t turn off subtitles on my $200 Plus Blu-ray, but I can watch it in Japanese with no subs on Hulu. Lol…. Jesus.

Because it's streaming and not on disc. It's about regional restrictions on disc sales and dissuading people from buying stuff outside of their region.

It’s a stupid practice that needs to die.
