seti88 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 (edited) woah tomica! what scale are these... Edited January 13 by seti88 Quote
Sanity is Optional Posted January 13 Posted January 13 If these are 1/144 ought to go well with the die-cast Doyusha ones. Quote
MKT Posted January 13 Author Posted January 13 No idea what scale are they, information on these is pretty limited. Up till this pic which showcase the actual items / prototype, I wasn't even sure if it was under HG licensing (worldwide) or Big West (Japan-only). But now we see its Big West, although there have been web stores around Asia accepting preorders for couple of months now. Perhaps someone more familiar with Tomica items can shed more light on this.. Quote

nightmareB4macross Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Based on the thickness of the parts and price they appear very, very small. Quote
Chronocidal Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Either that.. or they're inflatable pool toys. Quote
MKT Posted February 19 Author Posted February 19 Yeah the moldings doesn’t look as sharp as it could be. The old Doyusha ones looks to have sharper sculpt, but I suspect these Tomica ones will be smaller than 1/144. Quote
Sanity is Optional Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Looks like no articulated wings on these either. Doyusha VF-1/YF-19/YF-21 all had articulated wings. Quote
Spark-O-Matic Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Not to sidetrack the discussion, but if Takara has a BW license for the Macross designs and they share rights for Jetfire with Hasbro what is stopping them from releasing an Japan Exclusive of Jetfire? maybe a limited missing relic? Quote
Spark-O-Matic Posted February 19 Posted February 19 10 hours ago, valky-001 said: Maybe a rival called Bandai. Bandaid is just another licensee and manufacturer, Big West calls all the shots and owns all Macross IP per Studio Nue, Jetfire likeness and name is owned by Hasbro. I'm not sure about Bandaid being able to do anything unless Takara tried to do a copy of the 1/55. I am interested in these tiny Tiny Valks if the price is right Quote
Felix Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Anyone have an idea on a preorder date for these? I think they would look good next to the DoYusha ones I have. Quote
sh9000 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I think I'll get a set to give to my 1/12 figures as toy Valkyries. Quote

jvmacross Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I guess they are cheap enough to pick up, but TBH, they look pretty bad to me...if they are sort of "in-scale" to the Doyusha's...I might pick up the VF-1J Hikaru.... Quote
Chronocidal Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Looking closer, I want to know who goofed up and gave Hikaru's 1J yellow circles on the legs like Roy's and Max's. Quote
graphic revolt Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I would love to see a VF-1J from Doyusha reproduced again that is the only missing item in my collection. Quote
locidm Posted February 20 Posted February 20 It’s all relative. Typical tomicar is 500 yen. The premium line is just for products with licenses like initial D and back to the future. Quote

locidm Posted February 24 Posted February 24 There is typically diecast in tomicar products (even the 500 yen ones) and I expect the same here. Quote

Actually...if these VF's are the size of the tomica cars...they may actually not be that bad....at 1/144 or larger...the sculpt starts looking bad... So maybe they are tiny like the old Nichimos...but even at 1/200 the Nichimos look better.... Quote
sh9000 Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Tomica Premium aircraft have diecast and are around 8 cm in length. Their F-35A which is also chunky with thick wings like the VF-1s is 1/164 scale. Quote

The pages here confirm they're diecast and 9cm long. But I'm still not sold on them... The missing gunpod is the big no no for me. Edited March 1 by Raikkonen Quote
MKT Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Most probably will pick these up for novelty.. but waiting for the actual size to be confirmed, which is likely to be after release I guess. Quote
CollectorCanine Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Their size is so obvious if you even do the smallest bit of research on Tomica, though... It's just Takara-Tomy's equivalent to Hot Wheels. These are going to be around the size of a Hot Wheels car. It's not goddamn rocket science, people! Quote

The pages here confirm they're diecast and 9cm long. 9cm would be the packaging length, in keeping with what looks to be Tomica’s usual practice when they publish dimensions. The actual item will obviously be shorter in length, hence I put the black base at upper limit of 8.5cm, & eyeballing the VF within the base likely puts it to be around 7cm. But it could well be smaller than that. For eg, when I look at some Tomica unboxing vids, the item inside is really much smaller in comparison to its packaging. Still, a couple of cm difference at this size won’t matter much I guess. Quote
Sanity is Optional Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I'll wait until HLJ or somewhere else has them, so I at least won't be spending $20 just to ship 3 diecast hotwheels sized valks. Quote

However, the box of these in the OP pictures look rather biggish while the Tomica plane series needs assembly and end up being around 8cm-9cm long. Still, the gunpod's omission is a huge red flag for me. It's like a pizza without mozzarella. Edited March 2 by Raikkonen Quote
