The Original Cobywan Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 After a decade and a half of being blown away by the CG artists here I finally have building my own Valkyrie in Blender. I'm playing around with proportions of the many modules that make up the craft to try and balance the appeal of each mode. I may throw in a few new interpretations of my own as I progress. I don't expect to come close to Olitech's level but his work gives me a high benchmark to strive for. Quote
Bolt Posted October 1, 2023 Posted October 1, 2023 Very Cool. Your efforts are much appreciated! Looking forward to seeing more 👍🏼 Quote
Knight26 Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Very good start, will be watching with great interest. Quote
Beko Pharm Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Wild respect, looks awesome 👍 Blender is one of the programs I have to relearn every few years. Not using it often enough so the UI never… sticks? Quote

Beko Pharm Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 Means my Blender books are all woefully outdated xD Think I'll stick with Wings3D. That doesn't change it's UI in decades 😅 Quote
Knight26 Posted October 2, 2023 Posted October 2, 2023 I am seriously debating getting out of ACAD, but all my models are in DWG and a pain to convert, and I am such a solid modeller that it will be hard to switch over. Everyone tells me to go to Blender, but I am hesitant. Quote

At least Rhino 3d is a perpetual license instead of a subscription service. Quote

Chronocidal Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Man, Rhino 3D takes me back.. I grew up on that, before I had to move to 3DS Max for the plugins and animation tools for flight sim models. I still miss how useful and intuitive a lot of its UI was, especially allowing transforms like rotations and scales to just snap to an object to give you an exact match. It would probably be a better tool for making printable models as well, but I've made Max work for me, at least most of the time. Blender is truly an entirely different beast, but that model is looking good! Quote
Graham Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 VF-1 in Blender??????? Why? Making shake or smoothie for Zentradi? 🤣 Quote
Beko Pharm Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 I wonder if this could be turned into a mod for X4 Foundations or something 🤔 They use Blender for their ship models and it's so well modifiable that people do total conversations for it - e.g. for Star Wars. One of my favourites for this is a BSG Viper. Quote
The Original Cobywan Posted October 16, 2023 Author Posted October 16, 2023 I'm going to share this model publicly once I feel okay with it. That or if I can find a stable collaborative project platform to work on. Quote
The Original Cobywan Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 Setting the tone for the rest of the project. Might 3d print it this weekend. Quote
The Original Cobywan Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 First attempt was okay. I'll need to enhance the panel lines a little. Quote
The Original Cobywan Posted October 21, 2023 Author Posted October 21, 2023 I broke the parts down more and added the ability to pose. Running another, more careful print job right now. Quote
Beko Pharm Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 *chrchr* Kinda reminds me of "You wouldn't download a car" campaign xD Quote

Knight26 Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Great job on the print and that foot thruster detail is off the hook good. Quote
The Original Cobywan Posted October 26, 2023 Author Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) I did the foot all over. I can still nudge the proportions a bit. Edited October 26, 2023 by The Original Cobywan Quote
Shawn Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 dang...make the painted heads and sell them-this looks amazing! Quote
