samuraid Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 Sorry guys- loved the macross segment of robotech....so got interested in the anime that started it all... Then liked very much: Macross Do You Remember Love... And then thought that Macross Plus was freaking phenomonal.... Yeehaw! But then, alas... encountered the Meltran/ Macross II stuff- yeesh... blackjek Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 yeah..macross II is ok.. not terrific. Quote
JB0 Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 Macross 2 isn't real. Seriously. It was creatd without any input from Studio Nue, and has been banished to an alternate reality where the rest of the series(save the original show) don't exist. Welcome to REAL Macross, BTW. Quote
F360° Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 it was not good, but it wasn't terrible. It's O.K. <_ Quote

MAXXxxx Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 I't an OK show, not good/ not bad, just watchable once n a while Quote

UN Spacy Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 For it's time (early nineties) Macross II was pretty decent. Tons of action but it didn't bring anything new to the table. The soundtrack has a couple of catchy tunes (Hush of A Million Years and Deja Vu are two of my favs), very memorable mecha (VF-22S, Metal Siren, and Macross Cannons), and decent characters. Quote

True, but to someone who doesn't realize its an alternate universe (like me the first time I saw it). Its hard to understand and piece together. Now that I understand that its not in the normal storyline I could probably watch it again without going "WTF?!?" and turning it off. Quote

I knew that and I still turned it off. Just because it has a Macross tag on it doesn't make it watchable, unfortunately. Quote
Effect Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 I really enjoyed Macross II. Was actually the first Macross I watched outside of the Macross Saga in Robotech. The dub is horrible and it can only be watched subbed. Quote
Druna Skass Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 Loved the mechanical and charcter designs. Liked the music far more than 7's. Ending made me hate everything about it other than the above points. Quote
Roy Focker Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 Macross II is an okay story. In the early 90's I was hooked and had out of state relatives ship episodes UPS to me. The biggest let down for me was the quality of the animation in the last two episodes. Look at episodes 3 & 4 and compare them to 5 & 6. Once the animation quality goes you have to focus more on the story which I discovered at the time was just 'okay'. Quote
bob joe mac Posted February 1, 2004 Posted February 1, 2004 I didn't mind it I found it entertaining sure I am not going to watch it all the time like some other macross shows but it wasn't that bad like I'm going to give it to a stranger then move out of the country bad. Quote
Graham Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Macross II is OK, not great, but not terrible either. I love some of the mecha designs, especialy the VF-2SS w/SAP and the VF-2JA. Can't stand the Metal Siren tho, ugliest fighter mode ever IMO. Graham Quote
azrael Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Macross II was ok (borderline I didn't like it). Mechs were fine. Very streamlined. Music was nice, but I've grown out of that idol-pop sound. Story was.... M7, now that was fun. Quote
1st Border Red Devil Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I liked Macross II....certainly alot better than Macross 7. Always felt that II could have been 40 odd episodes long and 7 could have been a whopping 6 eps. long. ::shrugs:: Quote
Keith Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Over the years I've come not to hate Macross II as much as I once did, and it is a hell of a lot more bearable subtitled. But when all is said & done, it's still just a sad rehash of DYRL. Quote
Agent ONE Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 When I introduce people to Macross, first I show them SDF, then DYRL, then 2012 Flash Back, then Plus, then I show them the first 3 episodes of MZero... Then I say "Thats it!" Quote
Skull Leader Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 This thread isn't about M7, it's about MII. I rather enjoyed MII ( and while I'm usually pretty lenient on dubs, the subtitles make it SO much more enjoyable to watch... trust me on this one) Mecha were more or less excellent (the Valkyries and Destroids were both cool... and the Macross cannons rock!). I will admit that the animation of the later episodes leaves a LOT to be desired when compared to the first episodes. I also thought that the first time the Macross fired it's cannon was the best representation ever (I am not at all above watching that part over and over again) Seriously though... if you've only ever seen the dubbed version (like so many have), I HIGHLY reccomend you go out and find the subtitled version... you may actually find yourself enjoying it. Quote
Uxi Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Hey, what happened to the MW Skin? Oh yeah, anyways, I like Macross II. Maybe even more than DYRL (which it's a sequel to). Just remember the whole alternate universe bit is a gigantic retcon (even moreso than DYRL's "move in a movie" bit). Objectively, it COULD still happen in the offiical Macross universe. Yeah get used to the M7 hate from certain people. It was nice to hear pieces of M II music in M7, I thought. Quote
CoryHolmes Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I like MII a lot. Much better than M7 and a lot of other anime from that time period. And yeah, it's just DYRL all over again, but I don't like DYRL much to begin with, so maybe that's part of why I like MII Quote
Uxi Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Oh yeah, wanted to add that the valkyrie designs are great! VF-2SS is nice and all but I like the Metal Siren. It's what Big West's answer to Gundam could have/should have been. Yamato 1/48 and 1/60 Metal Siren please. Fett's armor is nice, too. Quote
Oihan Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 (edited) waits for Oihan... Lol! So I'm the only one that loves Macross II.... Ah well... I've said it before...and I'll say it again: Macross II 0wnz! And Keith, so you know...when I first saw Macross II I disliked it. At the time I hadn't seen anything else Macross besides the Macross Saga. Well...the more I watched it, the more I started to love it. It just grows on ya. Glad to hear that your hate for it isn't as passionate as it used to be. Edited February 2, 2004 by Oihan Quote
Dangard Ace Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 I like Macross II. MII illustration book, HK boot, R1 release DVD, CD. Of course I'm a sucker for Mikimoto character designs/watercolors so.... Sylvie....yum. Quote
Agent ONE Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 What's with all the Macross 7 hate? As I don't want to ruin this thread, you can PM me if you want to know why M7 is retarted. M2 is ten times better than M7. Quote
Keith Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 M2 is ten times better than M7. That's such B.S. Macross 7 is far superior to anything in II. Quote

bsu legato Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Think Highlander II: The Quickening . But which version? Quote
rnurmin Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 the show is ok. But the mechas are awesome. Not to mention the Enemy's mecha Quote
JValk Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 i like the manga of mac ii. character-driven, whee! go mikimoto! Quote
wolfx Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 What exactly was that Metal Siren's ability to blow up a whole cruiser from the inside out.....? EMP thingy? Quote
