Thom Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Coming in 2025, writer/director of the first three films, Dean Deblois, will be remaking these in live action! https://www.syfy.com/syfy-wire/why-how-to-train-your-dragon-can-work-in-live-action?cid=soc_facebook_x_x_syfywire_org_x_syfypeacock_x_editorial_x_x&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=9yearoldboysearchingwalnut&utm_term=organic&utm_content=link_ad&__source=Blastr_Vayner_syfy_Facebook&fbclid=IwAR39PDnr5zaFxpmD084Th5PgpyLrsnNWJpWTc74re-ADQF6A6wI3gXt6vFU Quote
Mog Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Why? Animation actually helped to enhance the story. Quote

Thom Posted March 12, 2023 Author Posted March 12, 2023 I'm all for them giving it a shot. Pretty much everything you can do in animation you can do in CG as well, and though I do like animated movies, I would prefer live action. I'll definitely give it a watch, and if I don't like it, there's still the go-to original. Quote
Big s Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 I’m more hopeful on this than the live action Disney adaptation trash. Oddly some of the voice actors might not make bad cameos for the live action. Quote
jenius Posted March 12, 2023 Posted March 12, 2023 Live action would make so much more sense if they were going to change the tone and make it much darker... they won't do that because, if they were, they would be wiser to not associate it with the fun cartoons. I think all the live action remakes of animation are a very interesting study as film makers wrangle with how the medium impacts the story telling. My kids LOVE the Train Your Dragon story so I'm certian to be watching this. Quote
TangledThorns Posted Tuesday at 07:47 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:47 PM Don't know what to think. Some of the magic from the animation seems to be missing though. On a side note my wife and I loved the original so much that we incorporated some of the soundtrack into our wedding music. Quote
TangledThorns Posted Tuesday at 07:54 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:54 PM I was trying to find this thread before I ended up posting the teaser in the General Movie thread, lol. What a reaction from us! Quote

jvmacross Posted Tuesday at 08:52 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:52 PM Think I'll just wait for the Minions live action... Quote
Big s Posted Tuesday at 10:12 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:12 PM I was kinda hoping they’d try to be a bit different than just acting out the cartoon. I’d still watch this before most of those Disney live action remake messes Quote

Thom Posted Tuesday at 11:30 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 11:30 PM Have to say, I don't mind if they do it frame for frame. I want to watch How To Train Your Dragon in live-action, not a reboot. Plus, anyone who loves the animation will not be disappointed by sudden changes simply for the sake of changes. Quote

I guess the thing for me is that it would just be the same movie again. I’d rather see something a bit different. Give the main kids accents to match the land they live in at least. The animated one was already cg, the cg here doesn’t look much different. Maybe take more elements from the book. There’s a lot they could do to make it something fresh without being blasphemous to the animated film. Quote
kajnrig Posted Wednesday at 02:40 AM Posted Wednesday at 02:40 AM I don't think the movie is one that needed a live-action remake already, but it is what it is. I'd have liked for them to go much more naturalistic on these dragon designs, and especially tone down the eyes on Toothless. Seriously, can you imagine how well it must be able to see with saucers that big? Also, I think it would only have been fair if they brought back Gerard Butler that they also bring back Jay Baruchel as Hiccup. 40-year old man STILL looks like he's in the midst of puberty. Anyway, happy to see the composer and director are also returning. The original has such an outstanding soundtrack, I still regularly listen to it on its own. Quote

It’s kinda unnecessary and too soon and yeah a little realism in the live action would have been more interesting Quote
Mog Posted Thursday at 06:55 PM Posted Thursday at 06:55 PM I’ll wait for the parody where they replace the dragons with ones that look like the House of the Dragon ones, both in terms of looks and levels of violence. 😅 Quote

TangledThorns Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Funny enough Gerard Butler was also in Reign of Fire. Quote
