jvmacross Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 (edited) As far as I know...this videogame release will be the first ever to include SDFM-DYRL characters and mecha released outside of Japan...in fact, it will be the first SDFM-DYRL merch ever released outside of Japan post BW-HG Deal.....why do I feel that things may not go as planned? Raikkonen Posted August 26, 2023 Posted August 26, 2023 The game itself has never been my style of play, but had my interest of finally having a official Macross game featuring a piece of SDF in English... Well, that's gone now... I will probably wait further on solely for how Zero is in it. Quote

It's unknown at this stage, but my guess is going to be no. But being a scrolling shoot-em-up game, I doubt the game will have complicated controls or menu system, so likely the Japanese version will not be difficult to figure out. But personally, I planning to buy both the Japanese version and the international release. Quote

Graham Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 Hmm.......given the rumors about the pending launch of the Switch 2, which have been circulating on social media in the last week or two, I'm wondering if I should hold off on pre-ordering Macross Shooting Insite for the Switch? At least until there is more information about whether Switch games will be backwards compatible with the Switch 2, which as far as I know has not yet been confirmed. I mean it's not a big issue for me about being able to play Macross Shooting Insite. I already have the Japanese version of Macross Shooting Insite pre-ordered for the PS4 and I'll also get the international version for the PS4, so I can still play it on my PS4 at home. But, at least until I heard the news about the Switch 2, I was planning to buy a Switch OLED, mainly for playing Macross Shooting Insight while commuting to and from work and also for playing some air combat games while commuting also. But if it turns out that Switch games are not compatible with the Switch 2, effectively rendering the Switch a dead platform, I'm now having second thoughts about buying it. Quote

The little I have heard about Switch 2 is that backwards compatibility will be baked in and that it will feature DLSS upscaling for older titles. So maybe getting MSI is still valid given that it will get an automatic 4k upscale on Switch 2. That being said I will get it on steam after the mod community to circumvent HG having its head up its ass and push SDF and DYRL characters and valks into the english release. Mommar Posted October 3, 2023 Posted October 3, 2023 (edited) Here's some good footage from TGS. At least on this level they're flanked by the Fire Valk and shooting down Varuta. Edited October 3, 2023 by Mommar Quote
MKT Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Thanks for posting the video @Mommar Finally get to glean a few things about the short gameplay: 1. Not very sure how I feel about the shots moving in the direction the VF is going in Fighter. I've never liked this type of shooting mechanic in other shoot-em-ups. On other hand, the stage/screen relative to the VF is pretty huge, and shooting semi-directionally prolly does help clear stuff across the far ends in a quicker manner. 2. I was thinking I could finally break out my wayyyy underused HORI joystick again for this game, until it got to the boss fight in Battroid. The way you lock on the shots in any 360 degree direction, independent of VF movement, appear to point that the second analog stick is necessary. Guess I can forget the joystick now, unless the shot directions are controlled using perhaps the shoulder buttons to rotate the VF. 3. Transformation appear to be encounter-dependent and not arbitrarily controlled anytime by the player. I think this is a good move, as the stages can be planned out more tightly and uniquely to each mode's abilities. But remains to be seen if other stages allow player to select between modes on the fly. If they do, I hope it is done in such a way that transforming is quite a necessity to get through that particular encounter, and not so much a personal flavor thing in which players usually just leave it in one mode all the way through. Guess I can forget the joystick now, unless the shot directions are controlled using perhaps the shoulder buttons to rotate the VF. Curious about that too. It may be still possible by using two joysticks though. No idea what your system is but various software to slice and rearrange joysticks into e.g. virtual gamepads exist. I found no controller schema myself yet but my Google Fu is bad when it comes to JP. Quote
MKT Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 @Beko Pharm I am on the PS4. I got the Hori joystick to relive some Street Fighter & other fighting games just for a brief period. I don’t think a controller scheme would already have been finalised at this stage, but I’m optimistic that as with many games these days, the schemes would cater to a wide variety of controller types. Quote
Beko Pharm Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Good luck I _may_ eventually get it for Steam where I'm used to beat games into submission to accept my weird controller setup 🤓 It's just that I'm not much into arcade type games but there doesn't seem to be much choice when it comes to Macross Quote
Raikkonen Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 My head it still spinning after watching this video with all those lights shooting across the screen, let alone me playing it while trying to be millimeter precise in dodging all of it. Was it so hard to give us instead something like Ace combat? Quote
no3Ljm Posted October 4, 2023 Posted October 4, 2023 Nope. Hard pass for me. I rather wait for a new game that has the Macross 30 gameplay for PS5. Or just straight forward remaster/remake of Macross 30 for PS5 is fine by me as well. Quote
Mommar Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 I like that it's a shump. I liked Scramble Valkyrie and wanted more of that. I'm concerned about this game both because of the shots that move with direction (which I hate) and the fact you can't change modes on the fly. I understand during the boss fight the twin stick style fight that you'd probably want to lock someone to Battroid but elsewhere I want to make my own choices. Quote
Graham Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 While, I'd love an Ace Combat type Macross game, we may be waiting a loooooooooong time, if ever. So I'm just happy we are getting any Macross game. Quote
