mikeszekely Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 It's a new film from Toho, not Legendary. Directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Dragon Quest: Your Story, Space Battleship Yamato, Lupin III: The First). Quote
Bolt Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Awesome! And tomorrow is Godzilla vs Mecha Godzilla on the big screen, in select theaters in the US ! Quote
Big s Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Is that for the new short film or a full length one? Quote
mikeszekely Posted November 3, 2022 Author Posted November 3, 2022 Full-length. And it will be released in theaters on the 69th anniversary of the original film. Quote
Big s Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Nice. The recent short films have been pretty good. Quote

Toho's Keiji Ota is or was less in favor of a Shin Godzilla sequel and more interested in building a kaiju cinematic universe. Quote

Although I would like to see a sequel to Shin Godzilla Quote

mikeszekely Posted November 4, 2022 Author Posted November 4, 2022 I liked Shin Godzilla, but I liked (almost) all the Godzilla films. That said, I could go for a Showa-style thing where different kaiju carry their own films, not just turn up as the heel in the latest Godzilla vs film. Quote

Old_Nash_II Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Seems like more a prequel from first movie Quote
mikeszekely Posted July 12, 2023 Author Posted July 12, 2023 Oh man do I hope this gets screened here. I'd love to see it on the big screen. Quote

Tking22 Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Damn I'll gladly pay to see this in a theater, Shin Godzilla was fantastic and looked and sounded amazing in an IMAX theater. Quote

Or do you mean a prequel to the FIRST first movie, ie '54 Goji? Perhaps "Minus One" implies an alternate retelling of '54, reframing the nuclear weapons social anxiety around... maybe... the Tohoku earthquake/tsunami, and/or climate change more broadly. IIRC that was somewhat the case with Shin Godzilla, but there the movie was just evoking footage from the disaster while the social commentary focused on government bureaucracy. I dunno, lemme know. TOHO has been tight-lipped on details but it appears it is a retelling of Goji's first appearance, but it's right after WWII instead of in 54. Quote
mikeszekely Posted July 13, 2023 Author Posted July 13, 2023 It was being suggested that this might be the beginning of a new Toho Kaiju cinematic universe. I think I could go for that. I mean, thanks to the MCU the notion of a cinematic universe is a bit played out (and it's certainly not helped by DC, Universal Monsters, and Sony's Spider-Man failed cinematic universes), but like I said before I kind of miss the old Showa days when Mothra or Rodan could carry a film on their own before turning up in a Godzilla film. And I really miss the Heisei-era cohesion between films. Quote
Tking22 Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 I'd like to see a modern War of the Garantuas, that was a fun film, and they eventually crossed over into the Godzilla comics and became part of the TOHO Godzilla comic universe. Quote
Raikkonen Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 Saw the trailer. Looks good. But anyone know the meaning of "minus one"? Quote

According to the director himself... "Japan was at zero immediately post war and then Godzilla strikes to hit an already devastated society at it's lowest taking them below zero to a new level of desperation, a minus one." Swann Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 I wouldn't call this a very good Godzilla film. Unless it connects to Frankenstein vs Baragon. That would be a dream. Quote
TangledThorns Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Looks great! Could be the first Japanese made Godzilla film that I'll see in a theater since 1985. Quote
Mommar Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 His snout looks pretty messed up in that last shot. Quote
Tking22 Posted September 5, 2023 Posted September 5, 2023 Looks phenomenal! I'm absolutely in opening night! Quote
Valkyrie Hunter D Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Fully body shot of the big G (he's actually posed as a letter "G"): Quote
