1 VF-1 2NV Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I got 2 of em ! Checked out my local Walmart after dropping off my wife to work this morning and lo and behold, there they were on the floor. I guess the young lady working the toy section did not get a chance to put them on the shelves yet. She was still opening boxes in the other toy aisles. Looks like blue windshield and black gun! Quote
mech9T8 Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 How much were they? The Walmart in my area just opened. Went there and they didn't have any. I'm going to do some more looking around. Quote
Deadzone Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Hey, How much are those things going for? I saw them selling on the TRU site for eighty bucks! I was hoping that was a typo or something. Are they really $80.00? Quote

Godzilla Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I am glad I am not getting this. I figure since I have 3 Takara Primes, I have enough. Besides, I want the "correct" Optimus Prime, not this shortened stack Prime. Quote
EXO Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I noticed the the stack was shortened on both ends, not just the top. Actually, I would get this if it wasn't for the ugly battle damage. So what's the price? Quote
FlyingPika Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I actaully liek the battle damage and was wondering if takara is bringing out a battle damaged version? thanks Quote
Jung Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 like others have asked, how much are the North American releases going for? Didn't know that the N. American releases would be different than the Japanese version, if the prices are similar I would rather have the takara version. Quote

The Takara go from anywhere from $99 to $130. Quote
NSJ23 Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 IIRC Target's MSRP is $59.99. Nope more like $69.99 but still better than TRU. I think it's $63.99 at Wal-mart. Quote

JValk Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 that packaging is atrocious. can you say "not meant to be kept?" - reminds me of the arch enemy series of gundam packaging - once you managed to un-tie all the twisties, the box was in shambles. Quote
1 VF-1 2NV Posted January 30, 2004 Author Posted January 30, 2004 that packaging is atrocious. can you say "not meant to be kept?" *SNIP* Yup I agree. Too bad it wasn't packaged like the other MPC's ! Quote

That gun looks pretty gray to me. I thought that the second run of Primes was going to have black guns. I've had as many as 5 Takara primes in my possession. I've seen enough of them. If Hasbro version goes on sale maybe I'll pick one up to leave in truck form or something. Heck, I'm still waiting to see Sideswipe on the shelf let alone Prime. Quote
NERV Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 between the choice of the takara ay my local comic shop for $119 + tax or the hasbro whenever it reaches my walmart, i choose the takara Quote
EXO Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 The price difference between the Primes really comes down to preference, IMO. Long or short smokestacks, battle damage, trailer or no trailer (hardly should make a price difference) and which box you want. Where in the Alt/BT line the price you willing to pay DOES indeed make a big difference in what you're getting. Quote

I still don't have the takara version yet! I'm just waiting on tamim to let me know when he'll be able to sell me one. Either way, I'ma buy the hasbro one to play with and keep the takara one in the box. Quote
Hoptimus Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 So the US one has the same die-cast content? I have been waiting on this one since I cant afford the import one. Quote
BoBe-Patt Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 So the US one has the same die-cast content?I have been waiting on this one since I cant afford the import one. yeah, from what everybody has been talking about, it's suppose to have the same about of die-cast metal as the takara version. I guess the only difference now is the smokestacks and the battle damage look. I hope 1 VF-1 2NV can open one up and confirm this with us. It looks like he's planning on leaving them in the box as I would. Quote
GreenGuy42 Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 Nothing in Gainesville.. Then again, there's never ANYTHING in this town.. ...save a lot of inbreeding. Kanata, HOW do you stand it? Quote
David Hingtgen Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 Just a note: the black gun DOES exist, there's now pics of them in US boxes. Wait for the next production run if you want the black gun. (Stacks are still short of course) Quote
Myriad Posted January 31, 2004 Posted January 31, 2004 I will get the black gun version. That grey gun is not my cup of tea. Quote
Chuey Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Since both versions are out, does anyone have any comparison pictures? Quote

Solscud007 Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Im confused. So does it come with the cardboard trailer? i notice it has the interior of the trailer but is it liek the takara version? Quote
NERV Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Im confused. So does it come with the cardboard trailer? i notice it has the interior of the trailer but is it liek the takara version? nope, no trailer, the other side is plain cardboard Quote
JRock Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I recently received the MP Convoy. Loving it. I just tried out the 20th Anniversary Prime at work along with Alternator Sideswipe. Content wise, he is exact to Convoy. But the paint job looks worse in person. On my coworkers version, the "dirt" paint is splattered all over his bot mode chrome grill. There were two things I've found interesting. 1) He got the last two at the Wal-Marts in his area. BOTH of them has the Grey Buster Rifle. He was aware that a black one exists, and was looking for it to no avail. He lives in Delaware County, PA. 2) The messed up smokestacks are spring loaded like Convoy, and not solidly installed like the original 80s version. All in all, I suppose if you don't wanna pay for the clean look and long stacks, it's okay. And for those who are wishing for an all plastic version, not gonna happen. Quote
GreenGuy42 Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 The more I think about it, the happier I am that I picked up bigkid's spare. At first, the stacks didn't bother me. The more I look at it, the worse the tiny ones look. Quote
JRock Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 Here's a funny fact. My coworker brought in an original G1 Magnus (White Prime. The version with the blue trim and not the all white version). The original's stacks are longer than the 20th Anniversary Prime's stacks. I kid you not. Quote
Uxi Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 I've yet to find one in stores yet... had my hands on a Takara and let it go... Won't do THAT again! Quote
Bloodcat Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 Got mine at Wal Mart this week for 64 bucks. Im quite happy with it. Sorry, the Takara aint got anything worth another 36 more bucks to it. Some of us aint made of money, and believe in getting a good value. Not to mention I consider 64 bucks a bit high, even if Prime is just shy of a foot tall in robot mode. He makes for a great centerpiece display on top of the digital cable decoder on top of the TV set though. Right now he only has Alternators Smokescreen to look awesome with him, but that should change soon enough. Quote
